thanks deaf... thats a nice compliment...
yesterday in the night i tried to blend the fence a little more into the whole setting. i tried painting pigments heavy diluted in water with the airbrush... when i would have had a larger nozzle it would have been even better... :-)
nice technique, it gives a very subtle dusty effect on the fence now... the reddish color isn't so vibrant anymore...
images will follow...

Hey Oli, The use of the pigments has given a really aged look to the fence, it looks less vibrant now! So you have added reeds to the scene...does that mean water will be appearing soon? Excellent stuff mate, everything is starting to come together nicely..I wish my first diorama looked as good as this one! Shay

howdy shay... yes i like the fence now even more... i am a little bit afraid of adding the water... i still have so many ideas for the water area but i am not sure how to do it... and i do not want to screw the whole damn thing up with a messy done water... maybe i just give the water resin a tryout somewhere else...
yap but i think groundwork is 85% done.. adding here and there still some fallen branches, dead leaves, some litter and glitter :-)
make it dirty...
so feeling better mate? your bad flu is gone?

what i do not like about those reeds, i should have painted the leaves with some gloss varnish before assembling... i tried painting them now and they just curl in all directions, but not the direction they should...
now they are too matte... i have to work out some way to change this

Now the fence looks really awesome and fits perfect in the complete szene. But it is still red, that's what I have meant. Perfect job. This dio has so many lovely details. I love it. You wanna add water, too? Fantastic...

hey mad, some comments with the right words just push people in a better direction... ;-)
yes water sits in the shelf and is waiting to be added to the corner.
you wont believe it, but this dio started as a big test balloon, where i just wanted to test some or all techniques i researched so i throwed in a custom made tree in one corner, some water (until now just the idea) in the other corner, some man made structures (the fence and wall) and some nature... a friend of mine convinced me, that i should show even this "test balloon"... a building, ruined and complete still is missing. but for that there wasn't no space anymore. this has to wait for the next one...

If this is a test balloon then I'd say you're all set in terms of having succeeded with seeing what works! For something that started out as an ad hoc collection, it sure has a lot of 'unity' to it in terms of everything working together to create a very interesting (visually and subject) end result. Keep at it!

Great start on the figures! That method works only if you don't overpaint or previous work would be lost. And it really helps a lot of you can thin the paint from now on so it will be still visible.

Hi Oli, As Andy mentioned it's best to dilute your paint and apply thin layers so the darker areas stay visible. I am also new to the B & W prime coats and with my last figure I still went about adding shadowing to the darker areas. I must say that this way of working gives extra depth to the figure. Good luck with the figures mate! Groundwork is looking smashing and the bike is yet another great added detail!!

hey shay, just started with the face of the first figure... there were not enough black and white that you could see some difference. somehow i missed spraying white onto that face... ;-) i also realized i need more tiny brushes. i already ruined the eyes with a 10/0 brush... :-( to big pupils... hope i can correct that...
yeah, i love doing the groundwork, and still i think i could improve it further... but slowly i also want to get to the finish line with that project... and there ist still alot of work to be done...
painting the figures, finish paint job on the scheinwerfer and its trailer and weathering them, paint the bike, paint the gate, adding the water... puhhh... when i read this, i realize that i am far far far away from finish line... ;-)

Where do you buy/ get all these beautiful plants for your dio? Or do you make them by yourself?

the only plants i buyed were the leaves from mininatur for the tree, the grass also from mininatur and a grassmat from heki. the rest of the plants are all scratch... ;-) the bushes were made from a wire armature stuffed up with island moss (island moos in german...) and then covered with foam from woodland scenics (ok that i forgot, was also buyed... :-))
the flowers are some parts from real plants i found during a walk with my dog, just painted yellow (i do not know which plant)
and the fern i tried to mimick from asparagus...
the reed plants are complete scratch build. leaves are painted and cut paper and the stem is some wire painted green. the brown tip is some pva glue and then rolled in brown pigments...
what else??? ah the ivy... the ivy leaves are parts of birch seeds glued onto real roots from some conifere...

i think i just have to get used by painting faces... now painted 4 faces tonight, not quite getting it... :-( have to exercise how much i dilute the paint and so on... sometimes too much water, sometimes too much paint... :-) Man, I think I am in love with your ground work! ok, then i am coming closer to the finish line, with the groundwork at least...

Hey Oli, Four faces in one sitting? My advice would be to take your time mate, allow a little amount of time inbetween your base, shadows and highlights. I used to rush my painting in the past wanting to complete everything in one go, the results weren't pretty! Just try one figure at a time, there is no pressure here on MSC. It will all work out mate, you have my vote of confidence! Shay

ok, i must admit the one sitting were about 8 hours... so today i went over the faces a little bit... always the same problem, when i look at them with my poor old short eyes they look quite good... but if you take the images... the digital world tell no lies if you do not force it to... ;-) yap maybe i should have done one figure after another... and not acting like a pro and doin it streamlined... :-( ok, i think i could leave the faces like they are, without ruining the whole dio... (bad figures always ruin everything, no matter how good the rest is...) enough blablabla, you guys want something to see... and as reserve said, practice practice practice...

The figures look fantastic Oli! Nothing wrong with your efforts here mate. If you want to add an unshaven look to one of the figures is to use Prussian Blue from Vallejo. Really dilute a small amount of this with water until it looks translucent..a small amount and you have a three day grow!
