This may be a shock for some of you who knows me well as armor modeler. I have been itching to build something with wings and I have choose my first wingy victim... God, she is HUGE! It will be a tribute to a good friend Nancy's father who flew a B-24J during WWII. His bomber was called 'Little Lambsy Divey'. You can learn more about this at www.458bg.com/crew60slaton.htmYep, that's her father Larry Riesen. He was absent in the group pic above because he was recovering from frostbite. I was so lucky I found the exactly same decals for this! Thanks to the tool Google I located it at a hobby shop in far northern part of Canada. LOL FERK ME! Did I mention that she is HUGE?!?!? For sure the kit is pretty old so I had to get aftermarket sets for this. I still need to get one or two more... gun barrels and maybe more interior upgrade sets. I hope I will enjoy cause it has been almost 30 years since I built a wingy model. I am sure I will holler for your help later on...

First thing on the instruction was to work on the nose leg... that's when aftermarket sets come in very handy. Resin wheels from True Details... Metal legs from Scale Aircraft Conversions... thank you Todd!!!! Huge difference between the kit and AM wheels... Of course my razor saw broke into pieces... I need to add details to the nose leg such as wirings and straps... gonna look for good pictures. Maybe somebody has good pictures to help me out?

Totally Awesome! I have been waiting for you to rip into this one!! Cool reference and back-story! Always make the build that much more fun and worthy in the end!! Love all the goodies!! Ahe will be a nice looking ride when your done!! As for the nose gear...there are a few things out there. Most of the front gear is almost hidden while sitting on the ground, but I know you have "the need...the need for speed"....LOL!! Main landing gear...just to post it! From inside looking down Bring on the building!!

Todd- this is ferking awesome! Those pictures will be very helpful when I resume my work on the nose leg. First picture is perfect for the main legs. PE set has cables for them but for some reason it doesn't offer any for the nose leg so I will have to add if I need to add anything. Thank boss!!!
Deano- no kidding! I should have listened to you and go for 1/72! LOL glad to have you aboard!

Off to a good start Andy even though you've already suffered your first casualty with the razor saw...what have you been doing with it before this, shaving? Looking forward to seeing you bring the big bird to life.

Hey! Andy looks like a very interesting build ahead of you there mate, nice to have some personal connection to the plane as well, sure to make it a special build for you. I came across an interesting story of a 90 year old gentlemen by the name of Lee Hazen who was a flight engineer on board the B17-G Little Lambsy Divey when it got shot down while on a bombing run to take out an aircraft factory. It was also interesting to see the tail number 297547 mention in the clip's description. If you want to hear more of Lee Hazen's story click here Part 1 and Part 2. I guess this B17-G (Little Lambsy Divey) was named after that old Pied Piper song Mairzy Dots that was popular during the war. Anyway look forward to following your build Andy as always.

I just ran to the window to see if hell had frozen over, was fire and brimstone, dogs and cats living together... No there wasn't any of that. But this still feels weird.

I didn't have quite the reaction as Wing_nut did, but I do have to admit that my jaw is still swollen after it hit the floor so hard.
Looks like a great project, Andy. Have fun with it!!

That is a great accounting Sabre! So many personal accounts were never recorded and are lost when these great men pass on. I think it is also an interesting coincidence that both planes are named the same in Mr Lee's plane being the B-17G and Mr. Riesen's the B-24J. Andy, I'm tempted myself now after seeing these...

JA!! Deaf, I am in of cause!! This will be the hell of a build and man, you have all the little thingies here to come up with something real special. It will be a joy to watch seeing you finishing one of the coolest planes ever. But you will see, collecting all the detail pics will be a pain when you discover WHAT you can add as special detailing! Great choice here, Buddy!!

Yes it is a shame Tod that more of their stories weren't recorded, I for one find them fascinating and could listen to them all day. I think I made a mistake with the name of the group that sang Mairzy Doats and I believe it was the Merry Macs that had that hit before the Pied Pipers in early 40's. Either way it was a popular song back then which may account for those planes having the same name, I also found another B-24 flown by Lt. Francisco Mercado, Jr. and crew with different nose art of Lambsy Divey on it. Source Wikipedia

Another great pic!! I would say it was a popular song!! That is three planes that we know of...LOL! Sure there are more possibly! Personally, and Andy would probably back me up on this, am partial to the, lets say, "more traditional type of nose art"! But all this art did serve its purpose!! That connection of man and machine!

You know, Andy - you could have tried something a little smaller (and easier!) for your first wingy build.

Guys- I apologize for not getting back to you guys sooner. Florida kept me very busy... you can see for yourself. For first time in many years I didn't bring my laptop along and it was a very nice break. BUT when I returned home there was nearly 7 pages of unread threads under 'Recent Thread' for me to catch up. Still trying to catch up... 3 more pages to go. Leon- It is always nice to have my fav wizard aboard! Jimmy- Plenty of corn here in Indiana... let me know if you need me to ship you kernels. Glad to have you aboard my wingy buddy... I am afraid I will be hollering for your help later on. Bill- Thanks professor! Bet you know a better razor... Sabre- That was a great clip... even tho little long but worth it! Glad it was captioned so I could enjoy it. Too often video clips are not captioned so it keep me clueless. Thanks my friend! Marc- Well, you had it coming... guys here have been doing too many crazy stuff so I had to give a wingy a shot. LOL Boyd- So sorry about your jaw... I should have added some kind of warning label on my thread first. Elco- Thanks buddy!!! I hope so... Todd- I have seen and saved those pictures! Fortunately friend's father was not involved in the crash when it happened. He was still recovering from frostbite. Frank- Thanks man!!! I am really looking forward to this. But I think I need to finish the US GI bust before I get my bench all dirty and dusty... Rick- Glad to have another wingy buddy here in case I need help! Aero- No worries! I have asked Todd very politely to switch the seat with you... nobody wants a HUGE guy sitting in the front blocking the view, right? LOL Terry- Maybe you can teach me how to fly it too? Happy to have you here too! Marc- I know... 1/48 or 1/72?!?!? I opted for something bigger... jeez!!! Joe- Thanks man... another great wingy buddy here I could count on for help too! Jeremy- AWESOME! Save me some beer for me too! OK mate?

Oh I forgot to mention that another aftermarket set has arrived this week... ALL the way from Poland. Of course RB barrels... Ten 50 cal barrels along with other guns for my near future builds. Also I ordered interior rear PE upgrade set because I realize we may see pretty much thru the rear side openings. Now I am REALLY leaning toward to order more PE upgrade sets for the front interior... I am wondering how much can we see the interior thru the canopy???

This B-24 stuff must be contagious. I got this our club swap meet. It has five sets of decals, resin wheels, and canopy masks. We could almost have a duel.

LOLOLOLOL! Terry, I can wait for you so we can do a duel? I really need to finish the bust anyway before I turn my bench into a very messy one for next two months or so.
Do you think I should order cockpit upgrade set too? I am still undecided at this moment.
