Jeff, Ill look into it bro. Brother John, thanks my friend! Ken, I sure appreciate your info on this AK paint. I will say that I do prefer the Iso Alcohol as thinner as it seemed to allow better performance that lends itself to my style and preference when airbrushing. Thanks for the kind words too, its my first 'Modulation' job.

Gary I have been mixing my own with Iso for about 13 years now and can AB best with this over pre packaged thinners. Now quit typing and get to weathering bro...lol

The mist coat really tied this one together Gary, looking forward to more...you've created a lot of pent-up demand with your speed lately so the pressure's on buddy!

Gary, job well done for a first attempt. Your just getting started with this technique and you'll be getting better with each build thereafter, if you keep at it with this technique. Practice makes perfect!

Hi Gary, Great Modulation work bro! Looking awesome! I ordered both the DY and Panzer Grey Modulation kits this month. I'm yet to use them but plan to use the Panzer Grey kit on my next planned WIP which is Bronco's Pz.II Ausf.D - it's in the stash and I'm looking forward to getting that going asap! Following the disaster with my last Pz.IV Ausf.G I'm either going to buy and build the same kit again or build this version instead. The Modulation kits really do kick butt - this looks awesome! Ben

Gary, my bro, my dear friend. It does look very nice I must admit. One thing I like less: it kinda have a prefab finish and not the Boggs touch. Still I will wait till you wrap this one completely before judging. Still it looks damn good!
Phil.

WOW, thanks so much my friends....means alot to me. Phil, I know just what you mean. Ive been doin my preshade, basecoat and highlight for a long while now, but i felt the need to venture away from my comfort zone to try and better my skills and have more finishing options. Im not even sure how far i wanna take the weathering and wear and tear yet....just gonna go with my gut, take my time and hope it looks good when im done. If its successful, i may just do another Color Modulation - Mace "Kiltutu" Boggs style!!! Thanks again fellas, Gary

Ben Hiya Ben, I dont know if you read my opinion post on the AK CM set, but if i may....i suggest you use 91% Iso Alcohol to thin it with. That was the key for me as it really allowed the paint to atomize nicely and allowed me to lower the pressure a bit as well. Only then did i get the performance from the paint that i was very satisfied with. Just a friendly heads up! Cheers, Gary

What a nice modulation, Gary. I really like the way you approached it, after filters and weathering it'll be a piece of art Regardin AK colours, I've had the same issues with my 4BO set, and I've switched to Tamiya's Laquer thinner. Dunno what this one has in the formula, but it thins almost every paint I've used it with

I also use Klean-Strip Brand Lacquer thinner as well, when i absolutly need to thin anything....it works!

Gary and Luigi. The only AK paints I have tried so far are the rust colors in the tracks and wheels set. The darkest color was spraying a little too thick for my taste, so I tried a few products I had sitting on the bench in order to thin the paints a bit.
I first tried the clean strip lacquer thinner my pouring a little in a class jar. I then put a few drops of AK paint in. This did not go well as the paint just gummed up into a big glob. What worked beautifully for me was the ISO, The paint mixed perfect with it.

Hey Gar ! This has been an interesting conversation about the paint / painting methods and some other stuff I don't fathom . Anyway the results are interesting and I know what Phil meant by the "pre fab " look as compared to usual methods . Its good to break out of the usual methods and experiment though . That 91% alcohol sounds like it did the trick for you . I have yet to try the AK products . I've been switching from enamels to Tamiya acrylics here lately and for me the standard ole Tamiya thinner works well .I still have to clean the needle tip with a brush dipped in lacquer thinner ever so often though . I'll give that 91% a try , for the paint I mean . I don't do that stupid youth stuff anymore either . Some how we have survived bro .

Cause original Windex works really well. Maybe you already knew that, just throwing it out there

Gary, I am concerned My friend. It has come to My attention that you have been modulating. This is not a bad thing really, but I have been told that if done in excess it can lead to hairy palms and blindness I concur

Hey brother John, I havent tried the lacquer thinner in the AK, but when ive need to AB Vallejo Model Color, ive put some drops in a plastic meds cup and added quite a bit of Klean-Strip Lacquer and mixed the crap outta it with an old paint brush let it settle for just a few seconds and poured the color of the top of the mix into the AB.....make sense? It sprays pretty nice, but i dont do it often or in large quantity. Still, I LOVE MY TAMIYA!!!!! Rob - Thanks for the link bro i appreciate it....very nice! Carl - I really like the results of the AK after i sorted out the thinning and psi. To be honest, i thought the Modulation looked pretty cool on its own merits, but i couldnt get over the stark contrast in colors hence the filter/mist. We'll see how it all pans out in the end and then ill decide if i ever want to do another CM paint job. Ive never been a big fan of it unless toned down ALOT by weathering, but i souldnt knock it till i try it i reckon. Thanks bro! Jeff - Lets just say i ALWAYS keep a Razor handy and i visit the Optometrist regularly! Gary
