I have taken a break from armor and after a nice roadtrip decided to build Tamiya's venerable M3 Grant. It will be nice and liesurely with a minimum of fuss. I will add some things for accuracy but no PE to speak of.
Pics to come tonight.
In the meantime can anyone direct me to a list of SCC color chips as well as time frames for the use of the M3 Grant in the desert by the Commonwealth?

Thank you all for your expressions of confidence and Bless you Richard that's just what I needed! Here's where I'm at tonight. Studying references revealed which parts were cast. They in turn received a texturizing. Suspension units grew wild in my bogie farm. Lion Roar provided the alu barrel after several attempts at truing the kit one failed miserably. The kit 75mm can now double for the 37mm. She's an oldy moldy but looks like a good build with a touch of TLC. G

Again, thank you all!
Bookmark away my friend. Casting texture was accomplished with an ancient jar of Mr. Surfacer 500 and a brush that's seen better days. After it sets I lightly sand the surface to impart some "flatness".

Don't see too many Grants built up...nice going and I love the texture, looks a lot like the Academy kit.

M3's didn't get a lot of glory other than what they got from Sgt. Joe Gunn but they were there when the days were dark. I did a kit bash with a Tamiya and Academy kit into a Grant that was published in Boresight some time back, I will have to post it in the Bone Yard.

Still have one day to work yet and I spent the bench time tonight with my grandson. The boy is knee deep in an old NASCAR kit and it's fun watching him go at it.
We used CA for the first time this evening. I had the kid convinced he would glue his hand to his face if he wasn't super careful. Needless to say he was quite attentive. heheheheheheheh
Tbone the M3 Lee/Grant is truly an unsung hero of that conflict. Just as you stated, they were there when we needed them.

I'm liking this so much I think a Lee and that figure set is in my future. I had the day to myself and when that happens a simple out of the box build takes a turn down another path. After perusing many many photos of Grants, I decided mine needed the unique front fenders as well as the sand rail. I also added fender detail not provided in the kit. These were all quickies taken as the camera batteries decided to die. I'll up date this tomorrow. G

Still tagging along your rails for the camo tent cover are somewhat different than I did mine since they were add on's I suppose they were all different. Nice work with the texture parts, I don't know if its an optical illusion but the gun barrel seems long in the pictures.

Thanks gents!
Tbone after looking at dozens and dozens of pics I found that configuration of sandrail to be the most documented. Since I had clear pics, it got the nod.
The barrel is not fixed as yet, but it did look la bit too long. I have since cut the mounting tab off the back and it snuggles up nicely.
