The Tigercat is now safely across the finish line. Time to move onto a new project. I figured a ground crawly thing…especially since I spent over two years on a wingy thing. I had originally thought I was capable of going OOB with this. Once I started looking at reference pics, I had come to accept that I am incapable of going OOB. "Hello. My name is Dave. I have a problem" (support group) "Hello Dave" Let us begin! Dave

Was it really two years on the Tigercat? Wow. I know I don't have that sort of focus to stay with one project for so long. Looking forward to this one for sure!

Good afternoon Leon, We have a go on the build. Not a leap but, a start. The tracks were a must for me. I did not relish the though of futzing around with rubber band tracks. There are portions of the PE that will get used. That which I don't like….will be scratch built. Good afternoon Andy, It was high time that I built an armor thing. Most of what you see was bought on sale. The barrel is by RB Models. Without shipping it was about $10 USD. I really do like Tamiya kits but, this barrel was split and, I did not care for the idea of sanding this type of barrel while trying to keep it round. No Thank You! Good afternoon Dupes, A bit over two years. I had started it at another site and got introduced to this site by some friends. There were a fair number of hiatuses that happened during that build. Lets just say, "Life" happened. More of something to be discussed over beer and BBQ burgers after a mountain bike ride. Good afternoon Tojo72, Smart A**! The kit really is quite nice. I am hoping that with the polishing of the skill sets that were used on the Tigercat that this will not be the glacial build as that was. So the plan goes. There was a start the other day. The back sides of the kits swing arms are hollow. Not so on the actual vehicle and, they will be visible if you were to go looking for them. So out came the styrene and trusty bondo. The forward attachment points of the hydraulics for the dozer blade were hollowed out a bit to allow for some Grandt Line bolts. The bolt heads are protected by the lip forward of them. Dave

Good evening Andy, No time like the present. Thank you for the offer but, the tube of bondo has barely had a dent put in it. Good evening Leon, Thank you. Good evening Bill, Yes it is. That and, of a type and era I've never built before. Pick a spot that's comfortable. Dave

Greetings Luigi, Yes it can be. I'm looking forward to betting all nitty gritty with this. It's been far too long since any armor has crossed my bench. Greetings CarlRF, The progress was a bit halting of late. Jacked up work schedule and then I was tech support for my wife and some friends and a triathlon last week. I have realized that (yet again), there are some things that I just cannot leave alone. There are going to be wee, but visible details on this beastie that are going to get reworked. The rear hull is no exception. I added the missing gussets for the fuel tank mounts and weld beads. The weld beads were done using both 0.020" styrene rod and Bondo filler. The round styrene rods fill in the holes where the kit spare track mounts would be. The track mounts are going to be scratch built and, the tracks will be the MK ones. Dave

Hello Leon, Andy, Tobias, Deano and, BillThank you gentlemen for the compliments and, taking the time to have a gander. I'll get some stuff up later. It's a dad and kid day today. Oh yeah! Andy, just to set the record straight, I was only tech support during the triathlon. I did not compete in anyway. I have called myself "The Bike Monkey" and, I will work for beer. Dave

The bench has been idled by various house projects (repairs, indoor painting…) and the fact that I've been off work for about 3 weeks. It's been a great reset of the headspace. It's been good for progress at the bench made the last couple of days. A bit of work has been done on the rear deck of the beaastie…. The grills are Tamiya PE that came with the kit. The straps at either end are Eduard PE. I had placed a strip of 0.010" x 0.060" strip between the two to give it more depth and substance. The lifting points (?) are scratched from 0.015" brass wire and lead wire rolled flat. The first color is down. It is LifeColor Worn Black. This was applied after I aged the tires with a Dremel bit. There was a bit of a gap that ran down either side along the hull. I opted to seal these up so no light is getting in the hull and high lighting an opening elsewhere. Not sure how necessary this was but, I didn't want to find out later when it would be much more difficult to take care of.
