Wouts ,thanks and I c.a. glued them p.e. fenders on and have knocked them off several times already . I'm thinking about taking them off and replacing them with sheet styrene and using the p.e. hinges at the join . Styrene to styrene should be a stronger bond than metal to styrene held with c.a. Tom thanks . Andy gogd grades never did me no good and at my age neither does thinking bout chasing the girls ! Jeff , I thought of doing it the way you described but I went with painting a enamel Model Master wood base coat and when that cured sprayed over it with Tamiya acrylic gray . Then I used a tooth pick to scratch off the gray acrylic in the grain direction . I figured the entire interior would of been painted along with the wood planks at the same time at the factory upon completion of assembly and worn off in path ways later . HTH . Anthony thanks .

Cant be sure but it looks gloss black or a very dark brown ? Very interesting Eddy . Thanks . Don't be surprised if you see this on my build .

Looks like the 'standard' very dark gray heat-resistant lacquer primer applied to all gun barrels by the Germans. Video quality isn't the greatest but that would be my vote for what it's worth.

Lui , thanks for looking in mate . Bill , that's interesting . I don't see that glossy look on other photo's of this vehicle . There were 22 kill marks on the barrel when captured at Stalingrad by the Russians but I don't see those in the video .Maybe it was repainted before being put on display in Moscow 43' .

Like you see here, there was still cammo on the barrel in Moscow The few kill marks left on the barrel after Stalingrad were removed before display, In Stalingrad they were almost gone; I think too that it is possible that it was a replacement barrel with the heat-resistant lacquer with some camo on it; You can play save of course by painting it in gray with a few kill marks from the time before the barrel was changed. Eddy and Bill , how about this theory that at the time of that last photo the kill marks may have partially covered with soot or burned off from the constant firing of the gun ? Here's a look at what continuous firing of the 6inch guns did to the paint on the gun barrels of my ship CLG-5 . Even with the more modern paint available in the 1960's and 70's it still was damaged .

My guess would be the Russians deleted the kill markings for publicity sake.
Exceptional work sir.

I'm thinking that would be a plausible answer G .

I'm fairly sure that G's answer regarding the kill markings is the right one. The rate of fire on naval 6" guns in continuous action is a totally different case vs. the rate of fire that the Emil would've been capable of or engaged in under combat conditions. It just didn't have the same ammo supply or was used in that kind of role. It was an AT platform vs. a standard artillery/SPG platform. Even high rate of fire weapons like the 15cm Hummel didn't exhibit that same kind of paint wear/damage that your naval guns endured there Carl.

Still though it's a cool photo of the burnt barrels ! No question about that! Now the real question is who was responsible for repainting the barrels after each fire mission? Very nice work on that interior Carl, looking forward to seeing you bring all those elements to life in your usual way.

Yup , sky gray . Who'd of thunk it ? It's a good base for the metallic look I see in the photo's . Once the graphite is rubbed into in it looks about right for me .
