Great! If your painting is as half as good as the sculpt, the result should be nice, jawoll.

Thank you friends, I'm glad you're still here to follow this adventure. Yesterday I've made a start with the base for my figure. I want to create a medieval turning stairway section made of heavy rocks. But I'm not going to use any rocks, this is the material I will use for these. As you can see it's balsa foam, a very good product for carving ornaments and brick walls, rocks etc... It's soft and a scalpel knife and sanding paper are all you need. A bit of creativity can be a plus too of course, there's a lot to achieve with this stuff. This is a piece of foam, it has great texture. I decided to cover most of the wooden base to add structure. Once all the rocks are glued in place, I brush them with water thinned wood glue (they're all glued on with water resistant white glue btw). It makes the surface harder and stronger. The stairs in the pic above were brushed with thinned glue, the darker rocks are dry and hardened already. Next thing I'll do is cover this with plaster.

I've read some very good reports about Balsa-Foam. Is still only the one Dutch company selling it in Europe? Oh, great work BTW

I don't know if they're the only selling this product Dierk.
Leon, doing this is something different besides working with Magic Sculpt and I'm having a blast.
Bill, thank you. Imho I think the list isn't that long I'm afraid.

Hmmm, balsa foam? Is it the same thing you get in flower shops?
Looks good so far.

martslay, thanks ! Lucas, no this is a lot stronger and it has a finer structure than florist's green foam. I made a bit of plaster and gave the base a good brushing with it. I then removed 90% of it to protect the texture of the rocks. I did this with a cloth dipped in water. Now the crevices are filled and the structure looks better I think. I like a wobbly stairway when it's medieval... When this is hardened and dry, I can spray on some base colors as a start of the paintwork. Later on I will decorate the base with grasses here and there, algae... Best regards, AG.

Hi guys, I've been thinking of this base and I'm not sure of it, I want to try a more green base too, with plants, grasses, flowers...
So I can't guarantee if this is the base I want for my first sculpt.
Maybe I purchase lasercut paperplants etc. vor a nice little natural base.
I keep you posted my friends.
Best regards ! AG

Some outstanding work here G! Catching up to this one after a while...sorry about that buddy! The fig look awesome, as does the mini base. That's the beauty of this stuff, you can always change things up later on if you want. Maybe try and add some greenery stuff like you said...climbing vine stuff around the outside would look pretty cool I would think. Looking forward to seeing what you conjure up!

Sometimes a guy (in this case, YOU my friend!) gets it managed to clean up his brain and come down to the teritory he should belong. Wanna know why I haven´t commented on your base till now? Remember me writing "I skin you alive when you do a ROCKY BASE!". Well, maybe you are in fear BECAUSE you have done a stone base or, better yet, your mental stability is on the right track again! Do not ge me wrong, the base you have done looks good: Great surfaces, detail and, of cause, STONES! That is not the way I would love to see Mr. Toad. In MY eyes, only a "green base" with plenty of plants, wet surface and green, green, green (maybe some small salamanders or creatures hidden in) would work. And I am proud of you that you have gotten it, too! So I have a wish, that the folks here come up with "little more critic", too. Praising stuff is good, yeah, but when I see differences to MY own fantasies, I will tell. And the stone base is deffinitly not Toadies style!
Frank (the critics critic of cause!)

Thanks T ! No worries fella, there's so much to see at MSCF I just can't keep following all topics myself.
Frank, thanks mate, no critics at all. I like people being critic from time to time, it helps improving a project.
I want to create an interesting base so I try different things, something I do often.
How many times I removed fresh paint on a tank because I didn't like the camo for 100% !?
People must have been thinking I'm crazy.
I'm very motivated and I will keep this topic very much alive good sirs !

Hi Guy Sorry for being really late on this but I've had virtually no time to even check the forum in the last month and as for actually building anything...... .......blame a promotion at work and the fact that we're looking to move! Anyway out of the blue this evening my son asked how the 'frog man' was doing - I will get him to call it a toad one day - so I thought I'd pop by and have a quick look. That base is looking really nice and the balsa foam looks like it would be very nice nice to work with! My son's response to seeing the base was "Cooooooooool. I really like it!!" We're both really looking forward to how this turns out!! Keep up the good work! Andrew

Hi Andrew fella, I said I'd keep this topic very much alive but currently it's more dead than alive to be honest.
I've been working in my garden and I gave my WR360 locomotive build a minimum of attention.
I'm glad Toadie is still present in the mind of your son, cool !
I wish a day counts 36 hours instead of 24...
After the train build (almost done now) I will pick this one up.
Best regards ! AG.
