Fantastic job as always Dupes!!  I just don't know who you do it......

The Churchill looks great and the Urbanmech looks very 'realistic' for something that's never existed.......which leads me onto another daft newbie question with regards to it and sci-kits in general.

Although I like sci-fi as a genre in general, I never got involved sci-fi modelling or war-gaming in my youth and I was wondering how they decide on the 'scale' for things that have never actually existed?

Who decides that your Urbanmech kit is 1/60th rather than 1/32, 1/48 or 1/56?  Are their 'official' rules/guidelines for this sort of thing?

Scaling - in Battletech terms, there is an extensive canon to draw from that has very specific dimensions for each of the mechs. If you poke around and locate my Battletech Modeling thread, I'm pretty sure I linked several sources of info in the first post. These kits that I've been building were made to match 28mm gaming figs so you could play on a large scale using the guys as infantry, hence their size.

As far as other sci-fi sources, It's solely based on how things are sized compared to a known constant - height of a human, for example. Some of those other settings don't have the specific background info to draw from so that's your only option...which unfortunately can leave things very "open to interpretation".

Can't believe I've had a six week gap between builds (especially in January and February). Not that I haven't been building, just have been finishing. Had all kinds of things come up that bogged me down...pretty set up for a good run of completions now, though!

First up - 1/72 Fine Molds TIE Interceptor. Awesome little kit - can't wait for the next one of their TIEs.

Next up is the 1/48-ish (they claim it's 1/72, which is WAAAY off) MPC A-Wing. Not nearly as good a kit as the FM Interceptor...but you take what you can get when it comes to A-Wings. Way under-represented kit-wise. I've been playing a ton of the X-Wing Miniatures game lately (one of the reasons I haven't been finishing builds!), this is based on the piece from the Rebel Aces set, meant to be Jake Farrel's ride. Custom decals, baby!

Nice pair to roll off the bench with for Feb. Dupes, especially now that you can use them both to stage 'dogfights' over your workbench when no one's looking.

Thanks Bill! Unfortunately, this and the B-Wing are two of the few fighters that aren't kitted in one of the consistent scales...makes it difficult to pair them up. What I wouldn't give for Bandai to crank out a 1/72 A-Wing or B-Wing!

That just means you need longer arms for the dogfight to be 'in scale' at a distance.

Continued plugging away! Been playing a lot of the X-Wing Miniatures game recently, but now that both of the Maine store championships are done (got 5th both times - pretty solid) I can get some finishing done. Got a whole WAD of builds on the assembly line waiting for final steps and weathering that I'm hoping to take to the spring show. Lots to come in the next three weeks before Downeastcon!

First up - the 1/32 Hobby Craft Sea Fury. Only injected Sea Fury in this scale, so this is the only option unless you want to shell out megabucks for a Fisher Resin kit (which I did not!). A lot of details are pretty simplified or nonexistent - but it looks unmistakably like a Sea Fury when you're done. HC makes three different boxings of this, and all three have some outstanding decal options. Went with the AAF for my first build.

Next one up is the Bandai 1/12 First Order Trooper for the Star Wars GB. All I can say is that these kits are awesome! Engineering is pretty amazing and the fit was outstanding. There will be more of these guys coming from me in the future for sure.

The Glossy Sea Blue is so dark I don't know that there's any other way to do it! If you go with any sort of brown or black it just gets swallowed up and not worth the effort. Tried the "dust" variant on the Hellcat last year, figured I'd try the "dingy gray" here...I like it.

First up - the Testors (same as Italeri) M107. Fairly old kit, but still the only option. Sure this could be awesome if someone wanted to put the time and effort into cleaning it up properly and detailing it.

You better believe it. I had this same discussion with the guys at build night in my basement on Wednesday...I really need to get rid of all of the shelf queens. So much stuff I want to tackle, but it feels wrong with so many half-finished builds. Doing a good job staying focused so far, just need to stick with it.
