Steve, I finally joined the 21st century.
Thanks Deaf for the kind post. She's definitely not a quickie "Monogram Snap-tite" build.

Thanks gents.Todd, I hope the "mock ups" are going over board. They help me visualize the next step or steps..... As you know scratch building is it's own animal. I guess each builder goes abooot it a lil differently. Mine is to constantly check fitting, and alignment. I don't mean this disrespectfully, but I don't think OOB builders can full grasp the dynamic. I know that when I was a 1/35th guy with all the "bells buzzers and whistles" that were available to me at the time I couldn't grasp or appreciate what it takes to build a model from scratch.
Anyway, THANKS again Nothing is ever overboard! LOL You wanna make the sh*t fit and look good. Scratch building is its own animal, yes. I have never subscribed one form of building necessarily over another in the hobby. There are some many different types of builders and so many styles...and yeah, there are going to be people that cannot comprehend what goes into scratch building, but in the same regards there are those scratch builders that don't comprehend the simplicity of the hobby (anymore)and end up wielding their little corner of the hobby as the be all end all. I say this with no disrespect to either side. I just see it as "different" forms of the same hobby with the same goal in mind...to have fun and hopefully create something they can be happy with in the end!

Todd, you make an outstanding point...... There are times where we all sort of rally around "what we do" versus the other guys, regardless of what or who the other guy is. I am the first to say I am guilty of it. When I made my post, I wasn't trying to discredit those who build differently then I. It is easy to take for granted many aspects of our hobby. FOR ME and ME ALONE I moved on from OOB builds, they were not challenging me anymore, and again that was for me. Now having said that have I overlooked the beauty and or artistry of a "simple" build, say an OOB Merkava, yes would be the answer. BUT not because of some elitist snob attitude. No, for the simple reason that that level of creativity and production doesn't as the kids say, "rev my engine". In all my post here I have always tried to be "semi" impartial. I believe that I can appreciate all types of builds and presentations.

Well I think we are all a bit guilty at one point or another in rallying around "what we do"...and there is nothing wring with being proud of what we are actually doing; be it OOB or full take down of a scratch project. There are certainly things within the scratch realm that some folks the only build OOB may never understand until they try it a few times. Like you touched on, we basically should be growing in the hobby. You progression transitioned you through boxed kits up until now with full scratch build projects. Others might be measured in quality of building of the OOB variety and definitely in the finish arena of play. Appreciation from my standpoint is of course with the final result. What I am seeing determines obviously whether I like it or not, but this is not defined by the build, subject or even finish. I have an equal appreciation for an OOB build done, lets say in the Verlinden finishing style (not that there is anythig wrong with that at all!! ), as I do for a full scratch conversion with lets say Rock Lawler finishing it. Only time I will get turned off completely is if I am hearing or seeing an individual pout off how something "should be done" or when someone offers only negative criticism without making an attempt to try an encourage the individual to strive for something more. It has always been all to easy for some to judge quickly and state, "that is sh*t" or "that is wrong" without adding a little words of encouragement ; i.e. constructive criticism. I think where scratch building is concerned, things are at such a different level of the hobby where there is a lot more discipline and focus on what is being done. This of course get portrayed and often interpreted a arrogance and sometimes self centered. And there are a few that make it their mission to project this persona...but some, simply forget what it is like at the other levels. The one interesting thing I learned form judging in the pat is how quick some are to, well, judge a piece at first glance without taking into consideration the individual, their age possibly, the level at which they are building and even what they might be trying to accomplish or convey with the build. I am probably a bit too analytical when it comes to all this stuff, but I hope it keeps me grounded in my view of the hobby, my own builds and my outlook over time!

In the end, "we" have become the hobby. At the end of the day, if we as a collective we, don't find ways to help our hobby grow, it will wither on the vine and die. For me, there has been, (not 100 percent of the time) a sort of magical feeling when I build a kit. This started as a kid with that first kit and continues to this day.
What I am guilty of is a hatred of the modern production kits. I am blind to the fact that others may LOVE this awesome selection and variety of mediums that these kits are now produced in. Call it a byproduct of growing up with Renwall, Frog and AMC kits....... LOL

For some who didn't want to build an interior, you are doing a dang good job of it. That turret is simply amazing!

Good, I'll bring my pillow, Bahahahaaaaaa. Never be in a rush to finish a job Ma Brotha, from Another Motha, takes the fun out of it. I'm a slow pocky too. If I had to count on this hobby for an income I'd starve, but I'd be havin fun I seem to remember the phrase, "Starving Artist". All looks good PJ.
