Hey Guys,
Well, personally, I told myself I wasn't going to build a Tiger...looks like I finally broke down and went ahead and tossed my hat into the ring. It did take a little prodding, and of course a gift from a good friend a couple months back, but it is officially Tiger-time for me. No, I have never built one...pretty funny anyway I look at it. Just got a little too burnt-out reading forum posts over the years and it basically turned me completely off to the subject. With that all behind me and basically and the kit in hand....
The gift was Rye Fields TIggy I Mid Production...as you can see. I have no illusions of what I am about to do with this kit...yup, I will be beating the crap out of it soon enough...LOL Part of my newly found interest in this subject, was obviously a wreck I came across. Intrigued by the scene, I hope to pull it off as best as I can...we'll get to that at a later time, but for now, I need to start somewhere!
After a couple nights and a few hours on Sat, boom, parts fall together! The kit is rather nice, boasting a full interior and movable tracks, but there are a couple things that need to be dealt with just the same. Mind you, it does not make the kit sh*t in my mind...it is all part of the modeling fun. Well, maybe not all fun, but part of the process just the same. One item is a couple of lousy placements of EPM's in the tub. These are easy to fill and don't take too much time. The second was the lack of "vision" on the part of RFM to not add the rack for the AMMO and simple supply a full compliment of AMMO with the rack parts attached to the pieces. Doing a full build...."straight", this would work great and look convincing, but for a wreck....not so much. Hence the styrene work. I needed to get a plausible look before I break things apart.
Another item was some details that might be needed in the engine/engine bay. Nothing a couple pieces of white plastic cannot handle. The exhaust is technically not one of the areas I thought was bad, but the muffler guards happen to not actually be used on "my" particular Tiggy, so I decided to make up a couple of new ones! A couple pieces of brass and aluminum and that was solved.
I did manage to to add a few details to the engine and began actually doing the unmentionable and making some cuts. I just didn't stop long enough to take more pics yet. I still need to finish the rear plate and screw with the firewall, getting ready to cut that open. The instructions actually called out for the turret to be built first...but I don't typically follow instructions to begin with...LOL That is next on the bench soon too. At some point I have to select some base material and pick up a selection of Scenic Facotry goodies to play with, but winter is coming and there is plenty of bench-time ahead!
Thanks for stopping in....
