Love the MGs! I come from an MG family. My first car was a 71 B GT and I put 150,000 miles on a 78 B. My dad had an 80 B Limited Edition and a 59 MGA 1600 and was one of the founders of the NC MG Car Club. I really wish I hadn’t had to sell his A when he passed away. Fortunately, it went to a really good home. I also owned a TR7 for six months in high school, but we can’t talk about that. Gary, glad you all survived! I totaled the B GT in a head on collision. Fortunately, the other car was a small foreign sedan instead of one of the GM land yachts of the 70s. Ben Thats some nice MG's! Love the A. I'm thinking of putting the LE front air dam on my '79, it helps with front end lift and just looks cool!

I loved those TR7s when they first came out, but sitting in a dealer's car was as close as I got. Please, tell, tell! 😁It was a hoot when it was running. It definitely made a mechanic of me! I never got into any trouble during the time I owned it because I spent most of my weekends under the hood. It was a 75 coupe, so it had all of the “benefits” of having been built at the Speke, Liverpool plant. I’ve driven a friend’s TR8 convertible. Now that’s how the car should have been built! mach7, I always wanted to put an LE air dam for my B, too. Ben

@tj, I like your NC! My Mazdaspeed has been a lot of fun but I’m about to put it up for sale. Getting back to recently spotted cool stuff, a guy at my gym drives a very nice 944 Turbo and parks it out in the boondocks with the rest of us crazies who are trying to avoid door dings. The reason I’m selling the Miata is parked next to it (‘23 BRZ). It’s interesting how the specs of the two cars are almost identical. I think 944s look best wearing Fuchs wheels. I need to quit posting car pics and get to work on a model! Ben

I wonder if the Nissan VQ series V6 engine would fit in the 944? That would be a serious power upgrade (3.7 naturally aspirated gives 325 HP); seems like a good swap for the platform.

Current car with no plans to get rid of it. 2020 86 Hakone (one of only 50 in Canada)

I know they’re not particularly exciting or fast but I think back and forth to work in a 944 would be just about right. Nice BRZ and Miata too. Ever since my mom randomly decided to buy an ND I have become a huge Miata fan. That car is stupidly fun to drive and I am quite sure the older ones are as well.

tcoat, oh man that car looks good in green!! Your previous one looks great, too! Kyle, I’ve lusted after the 944 since they first hit the street. That and the 924 Carrera GT. The BRZ has scratched the 944 itch for now. Once I sell the Miata, I’m thinking of tracking down a 1st gen RX-7 to play with. They’re a hoot! Ben

Her husband bought it and had it shipped home for when he returned from Nam. Never made it home. I believe it has under 500 miles on it. She will never sell it. Only one I have ever seen.

Years ago I used to travel a lot and once stumbled across a very nice C-GT at some hole in the wall used car dealer in a small town in western NC. The guy didn’t know what he had and was only asking $2000 for it. I didn’t want another MG and didn’t have the money anyway, so I called my dad to give him a heads up. He had to pass, saying if he brought another MG home, my mom would make him sleep in it out in the garage. Ben

Tall ships are so cool. I mean I like generally most things that float but there’s something special about sailing ships. As a kid I was roped in at an early age by the old Hornblower tv show and a subsequent visit to USS Constitution. Gorgeous ship. This led to a general fascination specifically to the glorious age of sail from the American revolution on up through the napoleonic wars. All of this still fascinates me to this day.

I stayed overnight aboard the Star Of India at the Maritime Museum of San Diego. My kids 4th grade class - long night! She is a beauty and we got to crawl all over her. They take her out once in a while.

Very cool. I wonder if the fore and aft sails made her handier than a full square rig. I know nothing of sailing but the rigging and sail combinations I always found fascinating even without understanding them.

I spent some time in Portsmouth in the early 1970s and visited HMS Victory on several occasions. I later went back for just one day for to see "Warrior" after her restoration, I didn't have time to visit the "Mary Rose". I had a good crawl over the replica "Endeavour" in the photographs (she's a very good facsimile, al the modern stuff is below the waterline, or well disguised). I also made a visit to HMS Unicorn in Dundee, but did not visit RRS Discovery.
Regards,
M

And Unicorn, for that matter.

There's a few more I'd like to add to the list if I can get some of my defects sorted and my willingness to travel restored. HMS Trincomalee at Hartlepool for starters (a semi-sister to Unicorn, but fully rigged); I'd also want to take in the Heugh Battery coastal defences. HMS Gannet at Chatham would require a protracted stay in the area as there is much else in the area which would be of interest to me. Hopefully I'll manage a visit before the SS Richard Montgomery pops her cork...
Cheers,
M
