LAV 6 about 3 blocks from where they are made. The mirror warning is even more ominous with the subject matter! Was fun seeing the orange dealer license plate hanging there like it was from used car lot or something. "Well Mr. Smith you want to take it for a spin. I'll grab the plate"

I'm even more of a Jonah to the ships I've photographed than I realised... Since I made my post I thought I'd look up a few old friends so to speak. I already knew about Asgard II (first two shots); she sank in 2008. The next three photos are of the Lord Nelson, decommissioned in 2019, described as "dilapidated" by 2021 and put up for online auction in 2023, the results of which have not been disclosed... I'd heard the Australian replica Endeavour was confined to Sydney Harbour now, but apparently she ventures out for short voyages on occasion. The Kathleen and May was last heard of as being under repair in Gloucester in January last year, but her Liverpool stablemate, the Zebu, (sunset shot) was wrecked in May 2021. To that sad list you can add the 1960 Hollywood Bounty, which I saw when she was in Maryport in 2007. This vessel was substantially larger than the original (deck length 120ft as opposed to less than 90ft for the original) and had a long career before her loss during Hurricane Sandy on 29 October 2012. Add to that the so-called Ellan Vannin wrecked near Redness point in September 2004; a vessel of uncertain history lost under odd circumstances. I don't recall having photographed her prior to the wrecking, but at the time I was in an odd frame of mind due to stressful circumstances and I found myself leaving my Aunt's house in the early hours of the morning and going down to near where she had stranded; not too near as although the storm had abated somewhat the wind and sea were still very agitated. It was too dark to see much (although I could make out when the last mast fell) but I stood for a while listening to the sound track of a wooden ship being torn apart by the sea, hopefully an unusual occurrence in this day and age. Some days later I had the opportunity to photograph the wreck but I appeared to have mislaid these; but it took the sea quite some time to complete it's work.
Regards,
M

100%. The plant where they are made/modified is upgrading a bunch of Canadian LAV 3's ( U.S. Strykers) to the LAV 6. The LAV 6 is distinctive for several differences in the armour and equipment layout but the really easy way to tell apart is from the internally mounted headlights instead of the surface mounted of the 3. I see the 3's all the time but this was the first 6 I have met on the roads. LAV 3 Styrker LAV 6

Wasn't fast enough to get a picture but on Friday morning I was working out in my yard and heard this outrageous racket overhead. Couldn't see what was coming but could tell from the noise it was LOW. Finally a few hundred feet above the trees appears a B-25. Looks like it was the one from the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum. Not sure what it was doing so low in my neck of the woods since the airshow isn't for another month yet. Was this one.

Last flight of the Hawaii Mars. Best to skip through, it's a long one but worth it.

This is the second time in 5 years that I have had a random B-25 fly very low over me seemingly out of nowhere. The amazing part is that it wasn't even the same one!

So, I sold my Mazdaspeed Miata today. I hated to do it, but I need the garage space for the BRZ. The new owner has no idea what he’s got, but it’s no longer my car to worry about. Ben Edit: Sorry for the slight rant.

At the few hundred feet he was flying at by the time I heard it, realized what it, was and reached for my phone he was just a dwindling speck in the sky. They look so slow when at a high altitude but you see how really fast they travel when down low. Would have been doing 200 MPH or better. That is a picture from the museum but that is EXACTLY what I saw as he passed over.

Could you imagine what 800 4 engine bombers would sound like?
"Operation Gomorrah in 1943 and the attack on Dresden in 1945 each used nearly 800 aircraft."

Imagine the sound of 1700+ troop carriers, C-47s & converted Whitley for Market/Gardens airlifts. At low altitude for paradrops, plus follow on low level supply drops by scores of B-24s

Did you say C-47? I got to crawl around this one last week at Falcon Field outside of Phoenix. It belongs to The Commemorative AirForce

Spent a good part of late last week the the B52 C crash site on Elephant Mountain north of me in central Maine. Next week I'm going to the WWII 1942 Sub Patrol B18 crash site in New Hampshire.
On a brutally cold January afternoon io January 24 1963, nine crew members took off from Westover AFB in Massachusetts in the subsonic, jet-powered strategic bomber on what should have been a routine training mission. The aircraft, however, ran into turbulence from gusts buffeting off the mountains of western Maine. Those strong winds triggered a structural failure; part of the bomber's tail was torn off. Unable to level the B-52C, the pilot ordered the crew to abandon it. Only three crew members - all on the top flight deck - had the time and means to eject. The co-pilot, Maj. Robert J. Morrison parachuted from the bomber but was killed when he hit a tree. Navigator Capt. Gerald J. Adler is the only person ever to survive an ejection from an aircraft without the parachute opening. He landed upright in the snow in his ejection seat, fracturing three ribs and his skull. The third survivor was the pilot, Lt. Col. Dante E. Bulli, who spent the night dangling from a tree 30 feet above the ground in minus 29-degree temperatures.
In 2012 a B52 ejection seat was found 1/2 mile west of the 15 square acre main site. I'll post the link to the rest of my old man photos

Great photo's 41chevy! I need to visit both sites. Sunday we went back to the American Heritage Museum, It was tank weekend. I could have driven one of the Shermans for the low price of $995.00! I took some videos but I'm not sure how to post them.

If you click edit on your post a robust tool bar shows up (that doesn't appear in quick reply - but does appear when you click reply or edit). There's a icon for ' insert video' - looks like one of those movie director scene clacker things. Just post your url in the box and you're good to go.
