Ok gang! Got some finished bits...Finally.. The engine is now permanently installed, along with some of the engine compartment structure. But, I am going to start with the axle shafts. These things are ROUGH. They are not straight or symmetrical and they are pretty primitive as far as castings go but!! For a hundred and seventy dollars for the KA kit...They are getting squared away and installed. I had to file the casting lines off these things and straighten em out as best I could. then I painted the parts with Alclad Magnesium since it seemed a good match for raw cast steel and Tamiya semi gloss black lacquer. Assembly was simple, bend an ear insert a U joint, bend ear back in place till its all together. Heres a few pics... Installing em is exactly like on a real car. Stab the stub into the trans axle, insert other end into knuckle/spindle. Reattach knuckle to rest of suspension. I did have to make cover plates for the trans. The trans isn't finished where the axles install since the kit gives you a pair of CV shaft style boots that install to the trans and hide most of the split where the upper and lower trans are joined together. However, there was a problem...The axles are a bit too long. The right side installed, barely (Its tight) at the trans and the knuckle/upright. Good thing I don't need the tires to spin. The discrepancy is in the lack of symmetry. The holes for the U joints are not perfectly in line with each other on adjoining parts. I mean, not even close in several instances. The left side, lol...I had to carve a fair amount out of the upright so I could get the darn thing in place and attached to the other suspension components. Once repainted, no ones the wiser. But, once I got past the issues it all fits. The kit parts work quite well. The rear suspension parts pretty much just snap together. Of course they are all chrome plated and had to be stripped and repainted with Alclad polished aluminum. There really is too much chrome in this kit. Here's a few pics of it all together for good hopefully. Did I mention the KA stuff comes with hose clamps in several different sizes?? Yeah, it really does. Far be it for me to ignore them... I have strategically placed a half dozen of them so far. I did destroy two figuring out how to use em though. Good thing you get ALOT of em That's all for today gang. Let me know if you like this format better for following along as opposed to the way I have been doing it up to this point. Thanks for looking in and commenting! PS: It comes with zip ties too...LOL

WOOOOOOOOOOW!!!! The level of detail in this kit is only made better by you being the attentive builder that you are Pete. Sensational work and GREAT work on figuring out to negotiate the axle length issue. Good rework on the excessive chrome problem as well. That’s one area that Salvinos has tackled rather well in the fact that there’s no chrome parts in their kits.
Looking forward to the next chapter in this build Pete!!

Thanks for the kind words everybody! It is very much appreciated. Deafpanzer... You still live in the area? we should get together!! Joe The Salvinos oldschool nascar kits Have chrome...And its no joke! Its actual metal Plating (probably nickle) Its hard like chrome! Does NOT sand. You have to file it down at the sprue gates where the nub is after cutting a part off the tree. It will NOT strip with Easy off or Purple power...its impressive stuff...

Those seats look like real leather, for peats’ sake. Man...tackling those little rings is a backbreaker for sure. They do take it to the next Level, for sure. Those wheels really look AWESOME Mav. This is really looking GREAT!

Ok soo, I got the majority of the paint work finalized. Painted the white roundels on the body Last weekend. Had to make a few stencils. These circles are an inch and three quarters in diameter. Same size as the decals that come in the kit, yeah, this thing is big. Paint was Tamiya gloss white...Probably used ten dollars worth of masking tape too!! LOL After the roundels, I had to paint on the black pinstripe that borders the blue and orange. Another 10 dollars worth of tape...Lol, yes I cheat...Next up will be some decals followed by the final clear coat...Then I have to prep, paint, plumb and wire the rest of the stuff that goes with this monster! There is a light at the end of the tunnel... I think its a freight train comin at me Balls out!! Till next time folks, again...Thanks for tuning in, commenting. I appreciate it much!!! Pete Your a hell of a painter brother !!!!!

That is just a jaw dropping paint job. It is gorgeous and beautifully executed. I gotta say that I am incrediblly impressed with your masking skills. Is that Tamiya contour tape that you used on the stripe border?
