it is quite the detail horse isn't it Gary!? It sure is Pete...specially at that scale. And....you're the MAN to do the job, for sure. I was meaning to ask you.... what clear paint did you use on this...It looks frick'in GREAT. And that's without rubbing it out for petes sake! Ugh...no pun intended....well, maybe a little...

The clear coat is good old Tamiya TS 13 Gloss clear. I decant it from the rattle can, let it gas off and shoot it through my airbrush. I Like it because it dries fast and hard. I can cut it and buff it the next day and the gloss it puts out is appropriate for production car type builds. The quality of how it looks before buffing is down to the prep work done before hand Gary. I cheat too, LOL...the final clear before buffing goes down over wet sanded clear that seals the decals. Soo, the surface is pretty darn flat at this stage. Makes the clear lay down super smooth. Also makes it ALOT easier to cut and buff the surface when your only leveling it out for buffing...

That's exactly what I do with Testors Wet Look and it works like a charm. Looking forward to more on this one.

Your welcome Gary!!! In the process of marrying the main body upper to the lower tonight...Maybe...Gotta make sure everything I still need to do detail wise can happen with the upper body permanently attached...

That's how i did with my Camaro project, first time doing that, so far i'm extremely happy with the results

How long do you guys let it gas off before you put it through the airbrush? Just curious as I’ve never tried it…

Over night to out gas. Or you can force it by,gently putting a mixing stick into the paint. Be warned...It will act like mentos in a bottle of pepsi. Do it slowly and repeatedly, till you don't get any more bubbles out of the paint and your good to go. I just let it sit overnight with the cap on the bottle loose so the gasses can escape.

Wow. look at that paint job. Superb! Lemme introduce you to Pete. Pete is a model builder that I picked up from the 1:1 scale Maverick/ Comet forum a couple of years back. He also builds bad a$$ 1:1 scale rides too!! Ford Maverick with a 408 stroker motor.

Todays update! Got the upper half of the body permanently attached to the lower. Gotta install the doors permanently first of course. then it was on to the front compartment. Have most of the details here nailed down. Still have to do the oil lines from the tank. Yeah, I know the brake duct hoses are supposed to connect to the spindles...Not happening... They are too rigid to make the turn from the duct to the spindle without kinking in the middle. I even tried coiling some wire and screwing it into the hose...Nope...No good. Even shortened them in an effort to get em where they need to go with a gentle radius...NOPE. Soo, here is where they will stay. Not happy about this shortcoming but... I half expected this was going to be a problem from the start so not too surprised. Not going to loose sleep over it either...Its a model... Got the interior dialed in too... And heres a few teasers for you!!! Till I get more done on this beast any whoo...Thanks for looking and commenting gang! It is very much appreciated. Stay tuned!!! GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!! Man this is just crazy. I don't blame you for leaving the ducts as they are Pete. With all the work that you've put into this one the ducts are a minor thing.

This car is just dripping with details. I mean ...............everywhere one looks there is just more and more things to look at. There's always that thought that goes through our minds as detailing guroos ...."Where do I stop?" kind of thing. In the larger scales it's so easy to get carried away but it seems that you're finding a good balance with the additions. Pure eye candy Pete.

No way! I am not letting you fool me that it is a little model kit... you are actually working on the real thing in your garage! Man, it looks way too real especially the engine!

Pete...you are doing a FRICK'IN GREAT Job on this build. Your attention to detail and your top notch building skills are second to NO ONE! This is an outstanding build, to say the least. It's been pure pleasure watching you tackle this large scale car. Looking forward to seeing it up on all fours for sure.
