It all looks great Andy. I am certainly looking forward to when you start applying the paint to it. Have a safe trip and we'll see you when you get back.

Tojo and Joe, many thanks! Right now I am REALLY tempted to have the wheels & tracks painted so that way I can focus on the body of Panther when I return home. Hope I will find a free time....

I've taken to the black primer too, really adds depth and shadows to the basecoat, It does seem to alright. I've been doing this with my scale auto engines and it helps to add another layer to the overall engine build.

I thought about getting me a Rochm Orterkompaß in the past, but they are so insanely expensive.

Gosh I haven't posted an update since July 18th which is more than four months ago. Sorry I got sidetracked to participate my local model club GB and things have been crazy busy in the fall with all of the business trips. I worked on my Panther as soon as I was done with my new workbench and I know I only have four weeks left! I did pre-shading before I sprayed a base coat of dark yellow on it. Can't live without those circular templates to paint the wheels! I also painted tire black on the rubber first before using the templates. I am gonna allow the base coat dry for at least 24 hours before I can paint camo next. That's the camo pattern I am going for and it will be my first attempt. Wish me luck! Thanks for looking!

Nice road wheel garden you got there. I love the way the wheels come put with the black pre shade Thanks Tojo! I found it very interesting to see how dark yellow comes out on both black and gray primers. I personally prefer black primer and it made me wish I painted the whole thing black but I didn't have enough primer back then. I will tone down the dark yellow after the camo job definitely! So so many wheels. They look great so far! Yep! That's the main reason the Germans lost the war. Over-engineering at its best! Thanks buddy!

Their engineering standards have not changed.

I wish I would remember to prime...by the time I get the road wheels done I forget how to do things LOL I wish I used the black primer on the hull and turret too but I ran out so I had to switch to gray primer. We can see a huge difference here and I prefer the look of wheels because it looks toned down. Primer is probably one of my favorite parts of modeling because it is very easy and fun! And it helps me catch any issues such as bad seams or excessive glue that I may have overlooked. Again thanks for following my build!

It will always amaze me how many different ways there are to do things in the modeling world. I am one of those guys that does not use primer or preshading for anything. I prefer a nice plain first coat and do all my effects after that. The funny part is that both ways (and the other half dozen or so methods out there) can end up with very similar end results.

Excellent progress here. Somehow I missed this the other day Thanks buddy! I was about to paint camo on the Panther last night but I thought the surface was not dry enough so I had to allow it dry for another day before I can apply silly putty and tapes all over it.

Crap, now I'm nervous... I chose basically the same camo scheme with the same technique. I went Green > Brown > Yellow though, in order.

With field applied camo no two were identical so just about anything goes.

I agree with tcoat's remarks... there were no written rules how to paint the camo on those. Many were applied on the field with whatever they could find out there too especially in North Africa to paint over early war Panzer Grey and Eastern Front with its winter camo. I choose to start with dark yellow because I thought it would be easier to spray darker paints on top of it. Again, it is supposed to be a fun hobby and you can do whatever you want to.

Well the early war base would be grey and the later war dark yellow and that is where any consistency ends. Although even those factory base colours could vary wildly depending on when, where and how they were painted.

Things have been crazy and rough at work but I managed to find time to work on my Panther. I am banging my head against the wall and regretting my decision to do an ambush camo scheme because the lines are hard edged so it requires a lot of maskings so it takes a lot of time. I was planning to do it earlier between the holidays but I discovered that my stash of silly putty has gone bad... 4-5 years old so go figure! So I ordered camo masking by AK and I really liked it a lot!!!
I sprayed softer colors to tone it down for chill effect since it was used in December 1944.
Next I will spray softer base coat of dark yellow and correct some of over spraying. I opted not to do full masking the first time and I regret it so I need to fix some. Weathered the tracks with pigments... will add dark soil pigments next! I will be traveling for at least two weeks this month so my bench times are not looking good again. Thanks for looking...
