Yeah it just gets better and better every day. Mock up with deck in place and sides up. Sides will be down and deck piled up to one side so you can see winch.

The decking looks great! Awesome you aren't covering all the wonderful detailing you did with the winch!

The decking looks great! Awesome you aren't covering all the wonderful detailing you did with the winch! Not only is it for the Panther GB it is eventually destined to be part of a small diorama I will call "Who Recovers Recovery?". There will also be a big surprise when I get to the diorama stage but that won't be until after Christmas.

OOPS!Somebody must have had instructions upside down or something.
Other side is OK. Good thing it is a Panther and you can't see back there anyway since there is no way those are coming off to fix.

Been a long time since I built a Panther. Forgot how much of a pain getting those overlapping wheels on could be. They are there though.

Oh that is looking grand! the wear off of paint of the wood areas... the weathering on the road wheels... all the little details that add up.

Still needs flat coat so the black tones down and whatever dirt colour I decide put on but the wheels are a good indicator of what the overall look will eventually be. Very nice sir glad to hear that despite the excellent deck paintjob you'll be opening it up Wasn't a hope I was going to hide everything inside when there is a viable option to show it.

They were easy to paint but I woke up screaming in the night after the battle to actually put them on!

Drive sprockets and idlers done. Nice side by side comparison for before and after weathering. Inside compartment dirtied up. Loads of spills and scrapes to the primer.

Schürzen temporarily hung on in preparation for camo. Since they are a nice steel photoetch I gave them just a light coat of base colour. This covers two bases for me. First off the base coat was not likely put on the same time the rest of the equipment was painted. In all probability the base coat was applied off the tank so would not be exactly the same colour as the vehicle. The rest of the camo of course would have been applied after the unit was fully assembled so that would indeed be identical. Second reason is that the schürzen were semi "disposable" or at least sacrificial so they were probably not primed. The thin base coat will let me scrape some of the base coat off and expose some bare steel when I get to the weathering part. Fun part is that these just hang on the brackets like the real thing so once camo is on and they are weathered up to match the rest of the vehicle I can just lift them off t install the tracks.

Took a break from the vehicle to get base coat on the figures. I don't go all out on them but do a couple of things pretty much all the time. I always paint any exposed hair jagged and not nice straight lines. When the follow up weathering goes on It looks more real to me. The other is that I hand paint with very thin paints so as to not hide detail and let some of the lighter primer coat just barely show through on the high spots. This just gives some more variation without having to go through the whole dry brushing lighter shades thing. They will look a whole lot better after some washes and a flat coat. In other words I am a lazy figure painter but am always happy with my end result as they are not the focus of my display.

And here they are with the wash. It will tone way down with the flat coat.

Excellent progress. Camo looks great, and I like your take on the figures. As you say, they are hardly the focal point on something like this.

Weathering stage one. My standard overall wash with tinted Future. Over the flat coat it does darken the colours a tad but blends them and gives nice subtle highlights especially around small raised or sunken details. Sort of hard to see in the pics but it is there.

The Bergepanther is shaping up nicely now, with the camo scheme on. No worries about the figures, washes and dry brush in are a tried and true old school method.
