Thanks Leon. Figure painting is very much a challenging area for me, and trying a new approach makes it even more so.

Will be watching this, though I'm still a huge fan of the Calvin Tan method for painting 1/35 figures.

The method that im going to try out here is something from Nightshift.

Would be my next try on a larger scale, where I found the previous method doesn't work at all. It's really only good for 1/35 and smaller. Great for War Gaming figures, too. My Archaon the Everchoosen was also painted with it.

Thanks Leon. Figure painting is very much a challenging area for me, and trying a new approach makes it even more so. This’ll be fun to follow and a learning experience at that. Like you, figure painting is something that I struggle with but would love to learn more on. Will be watching what you do here with great interest Carlos.

Yeah, there is quite a learning curve to figure painting, and if there’s an easy way, I sure haven’t found it… Today I did the first coat of the British uniform Khaki on the figure I don’t know how long to let the coats dry, and did not have a long amount of time for the bench today, so I’ll resume tomorrow… so far I really like the look. I started with about a 5 to 3 ratio of glaze medium to paint. Might go for more dilution of the paint next session…

Chevy & Tony, thank you. Looking at it so far, this does give a fair representation of a wool uniform. Let’s see how it looks after the next coat of paint. Or more accurately glaze or wash. I’m curious as to how this would work with enamels over an acrylic base coat… 🤔

Continuing to watch. Thank you for posting the video as I've heard lots about this Night Shift fella and it most certainly looks like he knows what he's doing. Watching videos like this will come in handy by taking some of the mystery out of figure painting. Coming along very well so far Carlos.

I think I want to watch the movie again for the 25th time... YOUR FAULT! And your figure is looking good! I learned an easy trick from a friend who paints figures all the times... he sprays black paint/primer upward using airbrush onto the figure from under/bottom so the figure has darker shades on all lower edges.

Mach7, Joe, Andy, thanks for looking in and commenting. Mach & Joe, I'm glad that you found the video helpful... I sure did! and I am not one to spend time watching these sorts of videos normally. But I am really wanting to find something to improve my figure work. Andy, I always try to watch The Longest Day on or around June 6, long with the first two episodes of Band of Brothers and Saving Private Ryan. As far as your friends technique goes, that sounds like a mirror approach to this method that I might just have to try out. I have some old white metal figures primed in light gray, so a shot of black from below might give the same effect before the glazing. Instead of a full black recoat, then top down white...

Looking very nice Stik! I've seen the Warhammer figure painters use a similar technique and they call it the slap chop method.

Thanks Ogre! My son does the Warhammer stuff, but I’ve never seen how he paints them. I’m not getting as nice of results so far as Mr Nightshade, but I can see with time and practice it will work better…

Todays progress report… I did the black, khaki, and flesh tones first coat, although I did not yet address the pistol belt khaki color… Not quite as nice as the demonstration video…

You are getting there. Baby steps as it takes time to paint layers on the figures.

Yeah im finding with this method to give plenty of drying time between very thin coats/layers. This is not a rapid method.

Looks good,I'm with you do far, faces are where I get lost, looking forward to see you handle it I'm keeping my fingers crossed on that. I just did a glazing layer of Model Color Dark Flesh, and that sure helps. It's drying now. Gonna try at least one more layer like that and then some fine work in specific areas such as the eyes and mouth.
