Great bit of scratch work with the replication of the heat shield, and no doubt about painting black being rather unforgiving. I have no doubt you will get that paint to look smooth as glass.

Initially was going to go down on PSI but after reading, I think I was too low. Thinned the paint a tad bit more also. Had much better results. Still a small amount of peel, but its got that glass look. Im gonna test on a spoon but Im thinking a few coats of clear should get me the results I want. Wont be bad for my first time painting black with an airbrush. It isnt going to win me any awards, but I am super happy with it. And like yall have said. Its takes more than just one kit to get that skill locked in.

Yes. That is looking pretty spiffy. I’m fairly new to airbrushing myself and have decided that I do like thinner paints a lot more so I’ve been leaning that direction myself. This is going to look great with the JPS stuff laid over it

Try to wet sand it right there before you move on James. The smoother the better on the finish in prep for the gloss. I wet sanded between the color and clear coats on my 56 F-100 starting with 2000, then 4000 and on to 6 then 8 and finally 12000 grit paper. After I clear coated I then wet sanded the that coat in the same way and then polished it to a high shine. You won't be sorry in taking the added time.......I promise.

Thanks I will try that. Thats a bad ass truck wow Thank you. Just trying to show that patience is key. I learned that if I had to ask myself if an extra coat would hide it.....then it wouldn't pay off. Get 'er glass smooth and THEN move on to the clear.

Had to stop here. Ran out of paint. Should have a new jar this week. Unfortunately the only place near me that sells Mr. Color is a 40 minute drive with a bridge toll so I just paid for shipping. I will be taking 406's advice and polishing what I have then I will apply decals before clear. Then I will polish clear. If I can get results anywhere near that Ford pictured above ill be more than happy with it.

Great goin on that finish James. Let 'er sit for a couple of days now and gas out. After that start with around 4000 and then work your way to the 12000 grits again using light pressure on the sanding pads/ paper. Then polish it out. What do you use for a polishing cloth?

The Micro-Mesh polishing cloths from Micro Mark are what I have currently. Combined with Tamiya coarse, fine & finish polishes. I need to add the decals and a final layer of clear, then let her fully cure. I for sure plan on polishing after that. Thanks for the tips!

This was probably the most difficult thing I have ever done with a model. Ive put decal cluster or guages in, but nothing beyond that haha. I have many errors which will show but its ok. Im learning a lot.

Great job! Decals over the compound curves of F1 cars can be a chore. But so rewarding!

That does look like quite the daunting task in putting those pin stripes on there and getting it all straight/ positioned correctly. WOW!! Your patience and perseverance paid off BIG time right there James!!

Ya'll have been super supportive and dishing out so many compliments. It really does push you to build better. I appreciate you all. With that being said... LOOK WHAT I DID! Some of the decals are a bit crooked, but this is a big W for me at least. learning a lot with this kit. I never in my days would have thought I could get paint to look like this.

Sorry for the delays here. I was sitting on my thumbs waiting for a paint delivery... that I never ordered! There is only one shop that sells Mr. Color paints in my area and they have recently closed and become an online only shop. So paint delivery aquired, I can get back to work. I was also waiting for detail parts to add some upgrades to the engine. I started temporarily piecing the kit together to get a plan of how to add everything and I noticed something interesting. Here is a photo of the real car below. You can see in between the velocity stacks there is what I am assuming is something to do with ignition. Note the size and location. Now look at how the Tamiya kit is designed. Its a bit blurry sorry but you can see how its pushed further back, it had some weird point at the end where you are to glue a half round shap on it to add the spark plug wires. Which is not even close to the real thing. I stopped here because in the photo of the real car, I think I can almost make out something like a distributer under the top silver rectanlge box. I need to find more detailed photos but its proven to be hard. So I move on to the what I think is the trans and rear brakes. On the real car there is some heat sheild and a hose clamp I tried to scratch build. This was the best I could do. Have a nice weekend everyone.
