I have been to Mercedes museum in Stuttgart a couple of times and seen a couple of their wartime engines up close. Now THAT has to be a sight to see right there!! I think I can top that. Some years ago at a vintage vehicle show there were a Merlin and Griffon each mounted on their own trailer. They were fitted with cropped propellors and, at intervals and for short periods the owner would run them up. Awesome! What makes it more remarkable was the Merlin had spent most of the time since the War buried in the ground where the Beaufighter IIF it was powering had went in, until being recovered by aviation archaeologists. There was a memorial plaque to the crew who were killed in the crash. www.youtube.com/watch?v=9zuXrzUimisRegards, M

I have a 1:1 P-51D and a 1:1 Sea Fury TMK-20 that I work on from time to time. Several years ago, I got a much more intimate knowledge of the P-51Ds pitot and static systems than I ever wanted because someone had left a fitting loose during the restoration process. It was my job to find it. They both fly pretty regularly and the sound they both make is awesome! I thought the Mustang sounded cool...but then I heard the Sea Fury fire up. That was beyond cool.
Not quite on topic, but since Germany is mentioned...my avatar pic is me standing in front of the nose of an old RF-4C that was still sitting in a HAS at Ramstein Air Base. I used to go over there every couple of years on a contract to re-certify C-21s...got to take a little tour of the old, Cold War side of the base where the RF-4C was still parked after all those years.

You win... I don't think anyone else on this board has anything as cool (sorry, you car guys with something awesome in the garage/on the driveway, you're a bit overshadowed now). Likely to stay that way, unless that guy with the 1:1 flyable Sea Harrier joins (I think he has a Harrier T-bird as well!!!). Cheers, M

I thought I would share the link to a webpage with quite a bit of info on it. While it hasn't been updated forever there might be some info or references someone could use... fw190.hobbyvista.com/

I've got a feelin' there's gonna be a whole LOT of information sharing on this aircraft during the GB. I may start a thread on Fw190 Information or something of the sort for the GB.

That's still cool. And you don't have to worry about Sea Harrier Man joining, apparently they are for sale... Cheers, M

I started going through my old bookmarks on my computer and I'm certain there are more websites I have saved "just in case" I revisited a 190 again.

First old tool (Out of production now) - lots of parts on the BMW 801 engine then second new tool and new parts - half BMW 801 engine front but new tool A-9 is not out yet, I have no idea.

The old tool Fw190's got a really bad rap years ago for their level of difficulty in the build up phases but if a little extra care was given, the issues could be dealt with well and they turned out to be awesome builds. All of the Eduard 190's in my stash (and I have 3 A-8's) are all old tool. In any case, I am most certainly looking forward to this Jeremy.

I'm still waiting for IBG for an aftermarket company to come out with the proper firewall and engine panels for my 1/72 scale build which means currently, I won't be able to build this aircraft opened up like I want to yet. As soon as I get the panels and firewall that I'll need to open the IBG kit up then it's gonna happen for sure. So....with that being said..... I've been holding on to a kit that I've had for YEARS and the one that I used to build my other A/8 variant 10 years ago with. During the last 10 years I've pieced this kit back together into a complete kit with two aircraft with all the PE to boot. and these do build up into some very nice models. I made a few mistakes with my first one such as the aerial wire too thick and the landing gear positioning but those are lessons learned and I'm looking forward to having another go at one of these.

Well...it looks like I have my subject. I was out cruising some websites for some needed supplies and this thing was on sale, not on a huge sale or anything, but good enough I figured I'd go ahead and grab it. So it looks like I'll be building the Hasegawa A-4 version. Looks like a nightmare to paint for a guy that's used to solid and uniform colors. Time to learn some more techniques, I guess.

And yet again a modeller blames others for his lack of will power in buying a kit.......that said I regularly used that excuse myself....and will continue to do so!
