The Third Reich certainly challenges the modeling community with all their complex camo.
Looks tedious as heck, but I'm sure it will pay off in the end. Can wait to see the next coat.

Six hours fellas. Six hours, and I’m only this far along with the “negative” masking for the brown. 😄



Seriously though, this is actually pretty therapeutic once you really start to focus on matching the positive and negative disks. I’ve even caught up on all the Modeling Mojo podcasts I was behind on! Next update will be with all camo applied.

Thanks man! I’m doing a couple more ambush liveries this year, but luckily they are standard camo, so no more hole punching!

After lookin through the pics again, I think there’s too much green for the eye to see. I’m going to mask a few small dark yellow areas to break up the green a little more. Nothing too complicated.

I was checking in for the Hetzer, as it is such a neat little vehicle. I didn't know it was going to be a lesson in warcrimes. Seriously why wasn't the guy who came up with all these crazy camo schemes tried at Nuremberg, he has been torturing modelers for decades. Of course then there was the Italian smoke ring guy who looked at the German camo and was like hold my swizzle stick.

Really interesting camo method, I have never seen this done before but it is looking good. A tedious process but looks like it is worth the effort.

Edits applied. I think it’s a little bit more appealing to the eye.






I also experimented with the process of applying the ambush mottling. I’m going to make a series of triangular cuts in tape and lay them down and dab a little of the appropriate color into each of the triangles. I think this one is a little small, I may make them larger. I’ve seen both triangles/rectangles and irregular splotches of color on various vehicles. I think I’m going to stick with the triangles and rectangles to make it more interesting to look at.

Looks great, but the German's must have had huge hole punches.  


I haven't built much German armor but I'll definitely keep this technique in mind the next time I have the urge.
