Hi, my forum name is actually quite simple, Roland is my first name and 66 is my year of production. So old school. My forum name, which I use in German forums, is "Kleber". That's the German word for glue. And that's why my avatar also says "Klebers Scalemodel Workbench“. Apart from that I'm already retired, unfortunately I fell ill in 2007 but nothing serious. My job is a car mechanic, which I still do 2 days a week. I can't do without it. From 1985 to 2002 I was involved in motorsport through my employer at the time. Preparing the racing car for the Nürburgring and the 24-hour races back then was a lot of fun. After that, I started our strange hobby again in 2005. The restart was really funny, at some point I sat with my wife and told her about my old hobby before motorsport. And what do I get for Christmas? A Ferrari Revell kit. Without paints, brushes or glue. I did a bit of shopping, my wife had no idea what she was getting into. That's why she can't say anything against it, I didn't start voluntarily. hihi......

Love the stories here. Mine is fairly simple, but I'll start with my avatar. This is a photo of my wonderful wife Jill and I on holidays in Britain in the 80's, (my beard is much longer now and white). Jill was the love of my life but passed on the 10th of February 2023. She always encouraged my hobby, even to the point of helping me design and set up my man cave, she even put up with my many visits to museums and never complained. She was born in London and was the daughter of a Royal Marine who served in WWII. Jim, her dad, never told me what he thought about her marrying a sailor..... and an Aussie to boot! I decided to include Jill in my avatar because she was such a big part of my hobby, with her always honest critiques of my work, and her genuine support of this weird and wonderful hobby.
As for me, I became addicted to plastic sometime in the early 60's building glue bombs out of Airfix polybag kits and then destroying them in the numerous battles that took place in our back yard. I then moved on to Monagram 1/48 aircraft kits for a while and then came Tamiya 1/35th armour and figures. Heaven!! for some years I was stuck in WWII, then I joined the Navy and the hobby was put aside. Some years after I paid off I got back into the hobby again, but moved on to Napoleonic figures and equipment. Then came involvement and eventual disappointment with clubs and club politics. I drifted away from the hobby again and only only got back into it a few years ago when I joined FSM and now thanks to some good people I'm here.
My user name is a laugh I have on myself. 'Dodgy' means unreliable, untrustworthy, libel to break down. But it's a great old Aussie word and I love the Australian character and our slang. Unfortunately this is all disappearing under foreign influences and politically correct bull. I'm old school and in my own way I try to keep Aussie culture alive by using language and expressions that are rapidly disappearing from our culture. Some of my mates are dead dodgy, mind you, they say the same about me.......l
Reading through some of the other posts I think I should have said a bit more about my background, so if you're not thoroughly bored already, read on. Born in Oz from a 5th generation Aussie mum with English/Irish ancestry and a Scots dad. Hated school and left to join the Navy. My rate was UW, (Underwater Weapons). when I paid off I roamed the country for several years doing different jobs. In the early 80's went back to school and qualified in welfare. I subsequently worked in youth accommodation, child protection and streetwork, then moved on to working in youth detention facilities. In the late 90's I went to work for the Victorian Branch of the RSL, (Returned and Services League of Australia). This is a veterans organisation similar to the American/British legion. I also served as president of my local Sub-Branch for several years, (all voluntary). Now I am retired on a Dept. of Veterans Affairs pension, (TPI, Totally and Permanently Incapacitated). Which is a nice way of saying my head is a little confused........ I still do voluntary work for the State Branch of the RSL overseeing the networks collection of weapons held in the various clubrooms around the state. This involves a lot of travelling and records maintenance.

My name is Rich, my avatar is a 72 Demon street/ strip car I used to own. My screen name, as many of you can guess is the fact that I really like Mopars( owned at least 50 of them) and the zip code I used to live in when I created it many years ago. I plan on recreating some of my favorite cars I’ve owned over the years. That Demon is in line to be soon. Right now I am building a 72 Rallye Charger 340 I used to have. I have been away from models for about 30 years and have too many collecting dust that have to be done. My occupation was a lead technician for many years( mainly Mopar stores, but some Ford and GM, before I went to dealer working on exotics). I left the dealer world to go to work for USPS, working on their LLVs, trucks, semis. I ended up having failed back surgery after having a fall on icy parking lot and no longer able to work. I decided that it would be good for my spirits to take up one of my old hobbies that won’t cause more harm to me, so here I am.

It’s the 01 that has me puzzled. Clearly his user name letters are just the anagram for his real name, as we have so many Joes here…Joe Tan? 🤦🏻♂️😂

It's just the first part of my gmail address. Nothing so complicated as an anagram, just a truncation of John Eaton. Like I said. keep moving, nothing to see here....

Okay, I'll add to the fun... My name is Erwin, living in Hoorn, The Netherlands and rolled off the construction bench on the 4th of may, 1973. Working as an ICT consultant in the Sys Admin corner, though details vary per assignment. My nick is one I liked since I encountered it. Golikell was a British Mk1 Whippet tank, used in the Irish civil war. For the ones who have a bit of a problem reading English, it is a contraction of Go Like Hell. One of her sister tanks was called Gofasta. Someone on another site made me a banner once... I have a dio in mind using just this tank (together with a Austin and some figs). The tank is finished: My avartar is the coat of arms of the unit I served with during my service time: The staff of the Dutch 1st Division "7 December". So called as the first incentive to raise it (in 1946), was phrased on 7 December 1942 by our then Queen in exile, Queen Wilhelmina. The unit was raised and earmarked for the former Dutch East Indies (nowadays Indonesia) to bring peace and order after the Japanese had left. The wreath and sword were the coat of arms of Batavia (now Jakarta) and the letters EM stand for Expeditionaire Macht (expeditionary force).

Ahhhh, now the name makes sense.... I had thought it was perhaps a location or word in some language other than English. Interesting backstory on your avatar as well Erwin.

Well my user name is a derivative of MrT which is my handle on other sites. Since that handle was already in use it became mrt51 which was my age when I started here. I'll be 61 in a couple of days. My avatar is a worn Luke Skywalker Jedi master. We have kinda grown old together. Behind the secret identity I'm Terry Barrow a mild manored product designer here in the ozarks. See, Terry, we ain't so old after all. I turn 62 in a few months and my wife says I'm the biggest kid in the house, HA!

I recall an "age poll", back at FSM a while back. I was 35 then, and about the youngest of the group. I'm mildly curious, at 48 now...if I still have to sit at the kids table?!!!

Wow, like I said, it’s difficult to keep track of the heavy traffic, so I know yall don’t mind me being late to the party. Hey, I brought pizza, we good? Personally, I have no internet profile other than the usual person search engines, meaning I’ve never been a fan of Spacebook or Myface, so the only thing you really find on me is I “sniff paint and glue my fingers together”, hence using my real name. My line of work after years in construction was not so popular with the criminal elements of society, so I like to keep that card in hand, so to speak. However, those who know me personally will understand what I mean when I say I was a “Professional Rugby Player;” they run, we Ruck Over! We had mandatory retirement at 57, so I didn’t let them twist my arm to retire, and I’m lovin every minute of it! The SIG tag is from the SRT Clan online gaming crew from the good old BF4 days, and Maj. Thrash being my call sign. My avatar is from my 101st AB figure done so many years ago. My wife always says, “Oh, he’s so handsome,” so I recon he came out ok, lol. I’ve been “sniffin paint” since my early teens and lived up the street from Mr. Donald Burgess, former editor-in-chief of Campaigns magazine. Some of you may remember this magazine from way back in the mid to late 70’s. Donald could make a figure walk off the base with ease, so you might be getting a hint as to why I’m all about figure painting. My wife has always been a big supporter of my “paint sniffin”, so I’m in the bunker if my daily chores are done and she’s good with that. She’s my inspector too, checks all my figures before they get sealed with Dull Coat. This is a great thread and I really appreciate the postings, cause I always feel like a ding-bat when I don’t know who I’m actually talkin to. So, if I still address someone using initials from you user name, you’ll understand I can be slow on the uptake, HA!
