My username is my name. That keeps it pretty simple. And the avatar is me, taken last year. I'm a 1952 model and have been married since 1977 to the same woman, Jackie. We have two children; Ann is 44 and a financial advisor who lives near Dallas. Carson is 42 and a mechanical engineer in Smithville, east of Austin. Each of them has a son and a daughter, so we have 4 grandkids, aged 9 to 6. They are all good kids to old Grandad! 😄
I grew up in Cameron, Texas and still live here. At 13, my family moved to Geelong, Victoria, Australia for my dad's job with ALCOA. We lived there for 14 months and then came back to Texas. My first ever airplane ride was on a regional Texas airline's DC-3 on the first leg of our trip down under in February 1966. In and after high school, I worked for my uncle, a painting contractor, and learned that trade. After dropping out of college in 1975 (well, that's not entirely accurate...the Administration at UT actually required it. 😁), I worked as a painter and then a tinsmith/sheetmetal mechanic for 13 years. Eventually, after a twenty year "Spring Break" (actually, just hard manual labor! 😉) I returned to college for the Spring semester of 1995, graduating from Texas A&M in December of 1997. I taught Social Studies in a Junior High School at a small-town, rural school for 17 years before retiring in 2016.
We own a 48-acre ranch about 8 miles from Cameron. That keeps me fairly busy and the entire family loves having a "retreat". We hunt white-tail deer out there and shoot feral pigs whenever we see them. I own a lot of firearms and enjoy having them. Books/music and fast cars and motorcycles (and had a few over the years!) are other interests and I help Jackie with her antique business too. I started building models as a kid and got back into the hobby around 1988. I may be the slowest scale model builder still alive! Mostly, I'm an aircraft modeler, but I have done three tanks too.

Ah, Gary, we're all young pups, just ask our wives, right? Sad to report and hard for me to believe I'll be 66 next month. You ain't old, Tony, just getting started! My, at 50 still being considered being a young pup? I thought that was the age at which you can start blaming the age for all your short comings? Not yet, Erwin, but soon you can apply for an AARP discounts, HA! Whew at 54 I might have graduated to the teens table What, TJ? You didn't know? You've already been assigned as the teen table task master, keep them youngin in line round here. I figure at 57 I must be doing something right. Living in the country every time there's new burnout or doughnut marks near here our neighbors are asking me what car I had out.. Like my wife likes to say, just bigger boys with bigger toys! Okay, I'll play along. With starting to feel the need for my first pair of glasses now at 47, I'm gaining some ground to you grampa's. Teeny times are over. Whoa now, hold your horses there, young feller, us old farts eat first, HA!

Sometimes at 77 I think I've seen dirt younger than me! Looking forward to many more years of model building as long as the body holds out.

As it's been really interesting reading all of your stories I thought I'd play, as I've only just joined you'll have to excuse me if I'm a little late to the party. Alas I'm only 46, so I'll be sat at the kid’s table. So I'm Stuart, hence the username, and my avatar is just a photo of me that I change from time to time. The funny sign was actually in a small tractor museum and seemed very out of place amongst the dusty old Fords. I don't have a particularly interesting story, but for what's it's worth, I've been married to my beautiful wife Alli for nearly 25 years, we have two kids, one daughter aged 20 and one son aged 13, both with varying degrees of special needs although my son is quite badly autistic and goes to a specialist school. We live over here in the UK in North Wales. We moved here from England (I grew up around Oxford) about 18 months ago mainly to get my son into a better school - best thing we ever did for him. After failing to get into the forces (Army and RAF) several times, I went to college and became an Aircraft Engineer, which I did for several years, mainly working on GA stuff such as Cessnas and the like. This was also where I met my wife, as she used to fly in the flying club on the airfield. After we got married I had to go out and get a proper job and ended up working for various Aerospace and Défense manufacturing companies in the QA role, on all sorts of stuff including the Eurofighter and some stuff for Lockheed-Martin. I'm now a Freelance Quality Manager, working from home, for a few small businesses - mainly I look after their quality systems, and cover their audits etc. None of it very interesting but it pays reasonably well and allows me to look after my son. I did build models as a kid, but not very well or with any great skill. I really got into the hobby, much to the horror of my wife, back in about 2010 and have been doing it ever since. Due to work and family I don't normally get that much bench time, maybe an hour or so a week here and there, so I've not really advanced that much after 14 years. My other hobbies include walking in the mountains around where I live, reading and wildlife watching. I used to be quite into photography but have never really clicked with digital so I gave it up. I've also been a Vegetarian for nearly 30 years and do a lot of cooking and baking. Still awake? Anyway, that's me, looking forward to getting to know you all. Cheers!

Well, guess I'm a little late in explaining who I am. My name is Jim McGrath. My user name is Fox. I started using the "Handle" '"Sea Fox" on my CB radio back in the late '60s. My first wifes handle was "Sea Witch". When I started racing R/C sail boats, I used the name Sea Fox on the transom and had a fox head painting in the center of the mainsail. No one remembered the number of the boat but everyone new the "Fox". These pics are from one of many races between the Virginia club and ours. photos.app.goo.gl/1rLyjUjqmJeSDM5R8My Avatar is the Artesania Latinia model "Scottish Maid" that I built back in 2004-2005. My wife was very interested in my model building and asked if I would build a model for her to put on the mantle. I gave her a couple of catalogs and said take your pick. Well, Christmas of 2003 I received a large present. She had picked the Scottish Maid out of one of the caralogs and ordered it for me. I started it in Jan. of 2004 and finished around the end of 2005. I was on the rifle team in high school, we were League Champions so we got our sweaters and letters. Still have mine hanging in the closet. My brother-in-law and I still go to the local range once in a while and put a few boxes in the can. Although the wife is the greatest, I'm not allowed to bring home the targets and hang them on the wall in my loft. Stay safe. Jim PS ---- You can call me anything you want except.............Late to eat.

So my name is Matthew Toms, everybody calls me Matt. I'm 60 and when I was 18 way back in 1982 I joined the Army Infantry and was career Army. Retired now. I was a TOW gunner, heavy anti-armor. Went Mechanized Infantry and was on Jeeps, HMMWV's, M113's, M901 ITV's and M2 Bradleys. Went to different schools, became a TOW Master Gunner and a Platoon Sergeant. Went a lot of places and saw a lot of sh!t, good and bad. My avatar is the WWII Tank Destroyer patch, which still exists and is unofficially worn on the left breast pocket of the uniform of many TOW soldiers. My wife and I have 5 children, age 40 to 28, all are married off and we have 4 grandchildren age 10 to 2, with more on the way. We figure we'll max out at 10 or 12! Lots of fresh little minds to teach the dark arts of model building. A few years ago I took one of the girl's empty bedrooms and built myself my ultimate model workshop. No sitting in the garage for me. I can even shoot lacquers up here and the wife doesn't mind. As long as I'm occupied and not getting into trouble, she supports the hobby. I have a son in law who golfs, hunts, and deep sea fishes and he spends 10's of thousands each year on those hobbies, so all I have to do is point at him when a few too many boxes come through the door. Domestic bliss. I live in a little town in Connecticut that's right out of a Norman Rockwell painting. We have a town green with a bandstand and church picnics and you can walk down any street at 11 o'clock at night and be totally safe. I work part time for my town as a Fire Police Officer. I'm also a Mason, a member of the American Legion and VFW, I run the Connecticut AMPS Chapter, and we have a 2 day show every October, Armorcon, that I chair. Oh, and I babysit on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 to 5 for my two grandsons, 2 & 4. By myself. They beat the crap out of me. Somewhere in there I get in some bench time and build models. I've been building steadily for 55 years. I also like to target shoot, museums, photography, stereos, and once in a while I get to drive NASCAR race cars.

I used to run with the local "React" people on the CB running around the I-95 area at night helping people who were out-of-gas, flat tires, mechanical problems and just plain lost. Didn't have a phone in your pocket back then. Working shift work I was on the road night or day depending on the shift I was on. Had some fun meeting people and helping them out of their problem. Were not supposed to accept money but people usually pushed a tip into your pocket saying they wouldn't tell anyone. It payed for the gas you used with enough left over to buy a pack or two of cigarettes. Gas was 32 cents a gal. and cigs were 32 cents a pack.
Stay safe. Jim

Hi Matt! When I retired from my job I joined the local fire dept. With all my fire training during my working time It was a shoe in but mt doctor and "Better Half" didn't want me to do it. So, I asked the fire dept. if they needed fire police. They did and I signed up. Had a great couple of years at it until the "Better Half" accidently saw a copy of the Pa. FP Newsletter showing the mumber of officers who were killed or injured while on duty. Between that and the amount of time I put in on the job she "requested" me to retire. As the Pa. State Police were also our Police Dept. we were called on ofren to aid them in traffic control at accidents that the fire dept. was not called for. There were an unusually high amount of men injured and killed while on duty that year and I respected her wishes. Got a couple of pics you might enjoy of my vehicle and me. Served me well. photos.app.goo.gl/8LJtcWXV2fUfZnWw8Stay safe. Jim

Honestly, I don't even recall any meaning behind my username. It's just something I chose 20-some-odd years ago, probably related to Top Gun. My avatar is me after having slain US-129 "The Dragon" on my Sportster a few years back. What a rush!

WB6PJZ here - got my novice license when I was 13. Haven't been active in years but still maintain my license. Actually wondering if my call sign will change as I moved to AZ. I should be a 7 now. Very cool John! I changed my callsign to a vanity one simply because the phonetics are easier for me to say than my assigned one Honestly, I don't even recall any meaning behind my username. It's just something I chose 20-some-odd years ago, probably related to Top Gun. My avatar is me after having slain US-129 "The Dragon" on my Sportster a few years back. What a rush! That is a nice looking ride! Must have been a blast doing that stretch of road. My bike is a 2003 R1
