I learned a valuable lesson last night. Never use a cigar torch to make a piece more pliable… I completely disfigured a section of the nose on the D-9…

Never fear though. I cut that piece away and replace with many many small pieces of sprue and added Tamiya putty. It won’t look 100% like it should, but will hopefully be close with enough sanding and time.

PLenty of tarps to go around!! That's a bummer but I know you'll bounce back with it. I have done some accidental melting in my day as well.

Through many hours of sanding, scribing, and adding rivets back.... I think I have fixed the D-9 after melting the wing. Along the way I also had to completely remove the cockpit and engine.... Really went through some emotional trauma tonight and contiplated tossin it in the trash lol

I'm glad I persivered though.

Looks like you saved it thank goodness! You did a good job with the massive surgery you performed it looks unscathed.

Thank you! You can see the engine no longer needs all the filler putty to make it work. I’m glad I went back and got it all fixed.

Definitely going through the “when life gives you lemons” scenario. 

A-7 had significant issues with all the extra aftermarket parts I added. 

I cut the wings to fit the gun bays exactly as directed by the Eduard instructions. Unfortunately, that seems to be wrong 😑 



To fix this issue, I first shoved some sprue wedges in there:






Next I cut the wedges down to the right size:




Lastly I added a good amount of Tamiya putty:









D-9 with A-7






I took detailed photos of the rivets and panel lines which I’ll be adding back once I sand down all that Tamiya putty. I’ll be glad to get past the building stage and onto the paint stage on these.

Jeez Keith........your recovery operations on both of these planes is to be admired man. Good LORD!!! I've been through that whole wing gun bay debacle but it's been so long since I built an Eduard 190 that I forgot about that. VERY good recovery efforts man. WOW!!!

That is some darn great surgery going on!! I don't trust cutting guides with after market parts. I like to shave a little at a time and chase the fit. You will have these looking top notch no doubt.

When I saw was all of those clamps in a concentrated area, my first thought was, “Oh no!”. Nothing good causes that many clamps. Your submission of the kit to your will is impressive!

Well, I’ve done just about everything I could to get this A-7 into decent shape. All the putty has been sanded flat, panel lines put back in, and rivets added back. It required a substantial amount of sanding as you could imagine.










I’m happy to say both Fw should be in paint by the weekend 😮‍💨

Mister…….you pulled all of THAT off very well. Those old tooled Eduard 190’s are indeed tricky but they are rewarding to the patient modeler. Intense detail and superb body work Keith.
