Eduard Fw 190 A-7 & Eduard Fw 190 D-9 Diorama

I will be starting this build in roughly 1-2 weeks once I finish my current plane project.

This build is going to be quite elaborate and involve 12 kits in total. In addition to the kits, I will be utilizing a plethora of diorama medium / accessories. 




The Fw 190 A-7 will be opened up and in disrepair. It will be nested under a makeshift Luftwaffe canopy with a group of mechanics, tools, and parts including a new engine in a wooden crate.

I plan on going with the scheme flown by Rolf Hermichen. Rotenburg, Germany. March 1944 for the A-7:


 

The Fw 190 D-9 will be in complete functioning order. It will be situated in front of the repair area on a dirt airstrip.

I plan on going with the D-9 flown by Gunter Syed. Uetersen, Germany. May 1945. 




The schemes I chose are primarily on uniqueness. Majority of Fw190 that I see are pretty dark in color, and I thought it would be fun to do a few lighter ones.

This build will likely take me 3 months or so from start to finish. I plan on doing two 12”x12” diorama squares that will come together seamlessly for photos, but still function fine on their own. My display shelf restricts me to the size I have decided to go with.

Welcome to my build log everyone and appreciate the interest. I hope I am able to entertain you all with this build! Tentative start date for this project is going to be January 16th.

As anticipated, I will be starting this build tomorrow. I plan on building both planes at the same time since there will be overlaps in paint colors. Additionally, beyond the planes I will have a substation amount of diorama assets to assemble. This will likely take me 1-2 months. 

Eduard Fw 190D-9 





I will be going with one of these two paint schemes for the D-9. Anyone have a preference? 





Plastic all looks okay. This kit also comes with some PE parts and masking. I did not purchase any additional aftermarket parts for this kit. 





Eduard Fw 190A-7. This plane will be opened up and include tons of aftermarket parts. 














Paint scheme I have decided to go with. I love how light in color it is. Should hopefully show tons of details with the right weathering techniques.



Plastic on this one had a few pieces broken off in the box. They were all there, just loose. No big deal to me. The kit also included some PE and mask. 





I should be starting the cockpits on both kits tomorrow evening!

Excellent. I cannot wait to see this one! The anticipation!! I sort of dig ol LT Seyd’s bird there in that yellow green. But the other one looks pretty slick too and I like the bright tail stripe. Either way it’ll look great.

There aint no WAY that I could forecast a build start up date like you did with this one Keith. I've had to change my start up dates two or three times in the past so I don't even bother predicting that anymore. lol My hat goes off to you for staying right on track with your start up date/ time though. 

For the D-9, I'm leaning more towards <ll + as it's a little out of the norm on the sides as well as the top. When I did my D-9 a few years back I used the Aluminum Matte BMF for the bare metal on the bottom of the aircraft which made things a LOT easier in regard to that section of the aircraft.

This is indeed going to be one heckuva build. I can see that already.

I'm not sure what is impressing me more, the shear amount of styrene and resin you are putting together with this or the time frame you are planning to do it in. I guarantee that you will be finished with this long before I get my single FW190 done and that blows my mind. Standing by for wip pics!

I do like that yellow green alot... I think it's the one I will go with.

I really had to push hard to get that A6M2 Zero done in time haha.

Thanks for showing interest! I like the yellow green of the F2 D-9 flown by Seyd. I think I am going to go with that one because it is so unusual looking.

handiabled deafpanzer Joe Rix Tojo72 chromdome35 Thank you all for swinging by and showing interest! I was able to get a good amount done tonight on both the A-7 and D-9

Here is the cockpit for the A-7 as well as the fuselage setup to receive some paint in a few days. I have chosen to go the PE route over the decal route. Additionally, I have aftermarket painted resin gauge clusters for this kit. They look very very detailed, and I am excited to use it. I did not prep any engine components for the A-7 as that will all also be aftermarket. I suspect I will be cutting away at the A-7 fuselage in the coming week to get it all to fit right.

On to the D-9. I have prepped the cockpit, fuselage, and a small section of the engine bay (firewall I believe it's called) for paint. I am going the PE route on this cockpit and will not be using the supplied decals.

These are both the first Eduard kits I have done. First impressions are, the plastic is not as clean as I would like. I am having to remove excess plastic in some areas that I didn't think I would. Between the two kits, the A-7 kit seems a bit more friendly.
