Sweet. I may be joining you with this kit. You color is similar to what I may do when I build mine. My Cousin had a Plymouth Satellite back in the day and I think it may have been a 71. It was a gold or copper color. I am also glad revell brought back this hood style in this boxing.

Heck yeah that turned out good Jeremy!! I was going to do that on my Vette and chickened out. You get the red badge of courage for that one bro!!! I'm not sure about the courage part Joe. More like insanity! But hopefully it will add a little spice to the build. Over the past year or so, I've really been pushing my boundaries (and sometimes my luck) with new techniques. Seems like I'm constantly trying something different, and I'm having a ball doing it! Thanks very much! Ha. I’ve been experimenting with this as well. I have found out that I have neither the time or the patience. Great work!! Brother, you nailed it. It's quite time consuming and very nerve wracking. To top it off, I've got hand tremors fairly bad, so I was really nervous about doing this. It's not a technique I plan to do on every build though. I think it will really depend on the subject matter and even more importantly, what the kit piece looks like to start with (or how easy it will be to pull off and still look right). Thanks for all your encouragement gentlemen!

Your grille turned out great. After the time I had with the one on my Charger build, I am not looking forward to doing another. Cheers to your success.

Was a little warmer today (49 F), so I took advantage and got some paint on the engine. I’m trying something I picked up from another member (thanks Joe!), and went with black primer to try to get some added depth. It's hard to see in the pic, but I think it worked out ok. The air cleaner was done in lighter primer in an attempt at making the orange pop a little more than the block. The transmission and other details will be painted after this cures.

Bummer about the paint. Are you back with the same color? The open grille looks super opened up like that! I did the same thing with a couple of Camaros I build in last fall.

That looks good Jeremy. I've found that black basing the engines adds just that tiny amount of extra depth to the overall look of the engine. Lookin' good bro.

You know, I was thinking about the color. I’ll probably stick with the same color, but the thought crossed my mind of changing it to root beer brown. I don’t know. I still have some time to think about that yet.

Got some paint on the interior. The seats, dash and door cards are all shot with my go-to for vinyl, Krylon satin black. I’ve used it many times for this in the past and been very pleased, but for some reason, this time it came out a little glossier than I would like. Not sure if it was a different batch, or weather or what. It’s not terrible though, so I think I’ll let it go.

Interior is looking good with the different shades of black. Just out of curiosity, have you ever considered decanting the Krylon black and shooting it through the airbrush with the needle adjusted so it’s one’s out in a fine mist. That may get you where you want to be in regard to a little less luster with the finish. You may be onto something with the different batch though. In any case this is coming along very well.

That may get you where you want to be in regard to a little less luster with the finish. Man I wish. I don't have a booth set up right now though. I don't have a good way to vent from my basement. When we built this house, I just didn't think about it with everything going on. There's only one window, and it's directly next to the furnace. Not excited about shooting lacquer next to that thing. I am considering using the bucket and water method. At least that way I could get back into shooting some of the "safer" paints like water-based acrylics. I used to use the airbrush a lot before we moved here. I've got four decent rigs and no place to shoot now. Someday I'll figure it out...

I airbrush lacquer paints in a spray booth right beside my furnace. I was hesitant in the beginning, but 99% confident now. I have also decanted Tamiya Primer and TS spray cans in there using the straw method (actually a cut pipette). I’m not endorsing this by any means… just throwing it out there. :^)

I airbrush lacquer in my dining room, as my house is on a slab. I just make sure I do it when wife is at work. I was venting booth by removing screen and putting hose out window, but it seems yellow jackets LOVE lacquers and kept coming in house. Now I leave the screen in and vent through it. ( we are both allergic to stings) The odors from the lacquers go away pretty quickly if you leave window open and fan running. If you worry about the furnace( I would too), you could shut it off for a half hour until fumes are pretty much gone. I used to spray vehicles with lacquers, enamels, urethanes where the furnace was inside the shop and never had it explode. Interior is nice by the way.

I am an EHS manager so have access to all sorts of toys and have tested for combustible gases that escape my spray booth (also the same as yours) and could not even get a reading. Even using full size rattle cans I could not get the needle to do much more than wiggle. Now that said there is not a hope I would be doing it anywhere near the furnace or water heater without a well vented booth!

If open air spraying just make sure that the furnace or water heater are not operated by a pilot light. Turning them off won't help! Modern equipment with auto ignition would pose almost no risk at all. Some time I should test airbrushing lacquer to see if there even is potential to reach ignition levels. I really doubt there is unless you are at full flow and spraying into the air. Rattle cans of course are a different matter since the propellent is more often than not the greater hazard.
