First blush of colour: Mr, Color C-81 Russet Gloss over Tamiya LP-71 Champagne Gold. Have a little overspray to deal with and a little wet sanding before applying clear.

Engine and two tone paint job looks great! Are those plug wires clear red?

Nice Mods. I'll be watching this and taking notes. I have never built this kit, but need to get one done, because I understand you kinda have to be able to show you have built an AMT 40 Ford at least once in your life to call yourself a model car modeler

I have never built this kit, but need to get one done, because I understand you kinda have to be able to show you have built an AMT 40 Ford at least once in your life to call yourself a model car modeler Thanks cbaltrin. From what I gather, the 40 Ford is highly customizable. The kit boxing I purchased has multiple options for engine and body parts without any builder mods. You may be right about at least one of these on every builder's shelf or stash. I was listening to a model car podcast and the 40 Ford was listed as of the favourite kits to build.

Update: More negative modelling. I reactivated the colour coat by applying too much clear. Into the purple pond. I just hope it doesn't mess with the body work (putty etc.)

Man, that’s always a bummer. Even tougher after so much work and when things are looking so good. Sometimes I think I keep super clean in business. Fingers crossed all your other hard work survives without issue. Positive waves headed your way.

LA’s Totally Awesome worked great on acrylic paint but couldn’t penetrate lacquers. And brake fluid… works great, but no thanks.

So sorry to hear this. Was it the entire body or just the lower end? That was looking really good. Thanks Dood. Fortunately it was only the lower half… which was a single colour to this point. Pretty sure I would have lost my poop if it was the 2-tone upper half… which I’ve had to touch up twice already. This paint job has been testing me patience. >:^[

I was trying a new formula for clear coating which requires a heavier thinning ratio. I knew not to apply it too heavily, but I got over-zealous.

I just hope it doesn't mess with the body work (putty etc.) I almost had to do this myself recently. Thankfully it was avoided as I have never done it before. Do you just let it sit until the paint dissolves? Or is there any scrubbing or sanding involved?

If you use acrylic paint - it should just wipe off. I used lacquer paint which took longer - though I couldn’t tell you exactly how long. The reason, in part, being the Tamiya Primer underneath… that stuff refused to let go so I was scraping it off with a wooden coffee stirrer and tooth picks. The part sat in the bath for 7 days. I did spend a few minutes each day scraping as some areas came off easier than others. And yes, it dissolved the Tamiya putty and Mr. Hobby Dissolved Putty. Brake fluid is by far the quickest - but that’s nasty, slimy stuff. A major plus to SuperClean is how quickly it strips chromed parts.
