Yeah, definitely makes the older Tamiya kit look basic by comparison. The Tamiya kit was the only game in town for so long though.

Wanted to do some weathering with oils tonight. Put them on cardboard when I got home from work this morning, over slept and only had about 1.5 hours to play around with them. Luckily they are oils and I will still be able to come in tomorrow evening and work these. The paint pallet I put in the fridge and that should keep them workable for tomorrow too. Two colors used here abteilung 502 burnt umber and starship filth.

1st off I forgot to take any photos of the interior before closing it up. So this is the most that can be seen. Once the turret is on even less will be visible.

Looks great through the opening. Covering up detail is always a theme on builds isn’t it? I’m enjoying your build of this.

I love how they give the top deck grill as PE. Man this is a beautiful kit and you’re doing your usual top notch work on this one Clint.

Seems that's always the way of things and knowing they won't be seen but still want to super detail them

You know how it goes with getting the details right and then closing it all up to where only a small portion is visible. There have been countless times that I was glad that I included all of the details on either aircraft or auto builds due to areas that would be seen that I didn't think would be in the final product. I like the weathering with the Burnt Umber and Starship filth. Good combination there Clint.

Thank you so much! I know what you mean. I'm glad I did more on the driver seat than I originally planned, since without the turret a bit can be seen. But I didn't put on the decal for the IP ain't no way that will be seen

  Even in getting most of the details done there are obvious things that are merely a waste of time like that IP decal you're talking about.

The interior details usually end up as a "I know it's there" deal. Covered up or not you did an excellent job on this

That's right, Hobbyboss got ahold of all the old Tri Star molds. No wonder it is so nice. I love the Tri Star family of kits.

Really don't seem like much to show but I wanted to start on the base to get the most out of my next airbrush session. This is in total about 12 hours of work. Since I wanted to do a scene of the 222 getting unloaded I needed a side of a ship that it's being unloaded from. So using several different reference photos I built a ship hull. I had tried making rivets out of styrene rod by slightly melting them then cutting it off, while it did work I couldn't keep them a uniformed size. So I had a stl file for 1/35 rivets, upscaled them by 40% and printed out around 600 of them. Last thing I finished up tonight was the sandstone dock, it was carved out of xps foam with several different sculpting tools then textured by hitting it with a rock from the driveway and rolling a aluminum foil ball over it. The screwed up area in the corner will be covered up with crates in the end, not sure how I got them off center there, but will be easy to hide my mistake

The rivet work looks amazing on the ship hull back drop! I think you nailed a realistic cobbled stone for the base. This is going to be wonderful all put together

More Work done on the Sd.Kfz. 222. I've modeled and 3d printed some parts, shackles and the wheel lifting fixtures. I've also got the 222 painted and ready for weathering along with ship side and sandstone dock.
