What a great idea and it looks like you are making a ton of work space for yourself. My bench looks like the back seat of one of our kids cars...... HAHA, like my first photo then? Yea been there. That looks really nice, awesome thst you have space and skills to create a usable system. The fun part of making your space truly yours. Customization is the envy of those of us less creative Yea I have plans for a curved piece and another rack for tools brushes blades etc. Once complete it should be quite nice. Also, I linked above a great resource if you don't have time/tools to male your own. You have probably already seen it as many of use have. However, With YouTube and either and a jigsaw you could do everything I am doing. Just requires a bit more time and patience.

An idea popped in my head last night... some tings started happening. And now plans are changing. Hopefully this weekend Ill get these 3 sections assembled, but also I am going to make a new table top. Current one is basically two rickety stands made to hold up a drill press and sanding station. With the one piece table Ill have this partial wrap around work station. Cool stuff coming.

Looks to be coming together nicely James. Love how once you get rolling the creative juices get to flowing and changes and additions flourish.

Looks to be coming together nicely James. Love how once you get rolling the creative juices get to flowing and changes and additions flourish. Thank you, Joe. Yea I agree its cool. Most of the time. Sometimes its leads to me getting carried away so Im trying to keep it simple but functional. Whats helping is the goal of staying as cheap as possible. So far I have spent $14 on one new piece of mdf. The rest is from different projects that I either got paid for or used to build gifts so I am not adding the cost of that in. Its like watching YouTube on how to custom build your model workspace Well thats a nice compliment! I dont think my stuff is nice enough to post up there but if I can be a source of inspiration to anyone here, then thats pretty cool. One thing I love about woodworking is once you know how to use the tools, and have some good ideas, the actual work itself is not as difficult as you originally expect it to be.

So today I was supposed to start on some new projects for the space before finishing these modular boxes. However, naturally because I need new material for this... it has been raining all day. So its back to the modular boxes haha. Goal was to finish this 2nd box last night but my sister needed a ride home from the airport and her flight kept getting delayed and I ended up not having to go in the end. No work was done last night. But I got a lot done today. Started making all the dados on the table saw. Ignore my disaster of an outfeed table. I am working on these boxes, doing some small projects on the truck, and also making some dinner trays for my sister as a gift. The garage is a disaster haha. Had a nice plan laid out. Everything fit nicely. Was going smoothly. A little too smoothly... Can you spot the screw up? I didnt. Until after I had it all glued up. Yay more clamps! All done, you can spot my mistake better here. So because of the oopsie, I cant fit the 4 small bins on top seperately. They fit with two in the middle sharing the space, or I can use it this way.. Oh well, in the end not a huge mistake because all spaces are still usable. I think now I will sand down all the faces and paint. More to come in the next few days. Hopefully the rain stops. I mean I could bring a painters blanket or tarp to cover but Id rather not. FOr the new cabinets above, and desk top I need 2 sheets of 3/4 4x8 plywood and 1/2 4x8 sheet of MDF.

I love the organization! You did a great job improving your work area! Still working on it! I have two or maybe three more sections to build. Here is a sneak peak of the third one. Plan is for a drawer where that hole is, and the 2nd photos shows a curved shelf on top of this providing more space to set stuff.

You're moving right along there James. Looking good. I'm enjoying following your efforts. You're going to have an extremely nice area to work by the time you're done. Thank you both! It was a beautiful day today so I was able to visit the local HD and got all th sheet goods for both a new cabinet above and the new work top. For the table top I will laminate 2 1/2 MDF boards to give me inch thck top. Plenty sturdy for a model car work top. I also purchased 1 inch poly T-Molding to wrap aroudn the edge so I dont have to deal with the mdf crumbling or anything. Looks like this I will route a groove around the 3 sides facing outward that the T-molding will slot into like you see above. This will give me a better look at how all these modular shelves will look and how many I should make.

Everytime I step into the garage to work, something (more like someone) pulls me back into the house. Hopefully I will get this 3rd section completed today. Preparing for glue up! GIVE ME ALL THE CLAMPS I didn't have to worry to much about glue cleanup on this one since it will be covered. But once all of these are done I will clean up glue, do some touch up sanding and most likely paint them some dark color like gray or something.

Wow coming along nicely.
You've got a nice woodworking set up. Very inspiring, you've even managed to get me down in the shop cleaning stuff up, and making plans for some model room improvements of my own.

Now I see another cool tool I need. Those 45° notching pliers are cool Those arent mine haha, I just pulled a generic photo from Amazon showing the 1 in trim I purchased lol. But yea, pretty cool. I did not get any work done this Sunday liked I had hoped. It turned into a family day so I got very little time in the garage. I managed to add the drawer stop/guides and measure out the drawer. It looks ugly but remember this area will be covered and hidden so I am using scrap pieces to leave as little wasted material as possible. Hopefully tonight and tomorrow I will be able to add the top section. It will be two or three tiered shelving to add paint jars. Then this will be done. And that will be enough for now. After I will move onto the table top.

I apologize for being a bit dense, why are the two side boards extending out past the opening, won't that block access to whatever pieces are sitting directly to the left and right?

I have just not trimmed them down yet. Just stuck them in there to give some kind of idea as to how the drawer would look.

Ah, that makes more sense! The plan is to put a 45 degree angle on the ends so it closes and looks somewhat seamless. Ill do that last as I want to get the shelves in place to get paint on there and see how it functions.

James is that MDF on top or just hardboard Good eye TJ! The darker stuff is Hardboard. It is left over material from a project I did for work years ago. The lighter stuff is MDF. My local HD was out of 4x8 1/4 hardbard if they even carry it at all anymore. For this purpose the extra (slightly) strength wont matter. Plus once its primed and painted you wont be able to tell the difference. Also, on my quest to use the most clamps... ah hell who am I kidding, this is just for laughs at this point... Drawer is glued up!

I like seeing tool and work space threads just as much as those featuring models.

Oh man, that is awesome! my woodworking skills consist of taking high quality stock and material and turning it into sawdust. I can do that effortlessly. I admire your skills! That dang Keavdog got me, too! I just bought some of those modules as my Christmas. Pretty well made it seems. I do wish they were a bit deeper.

I admire your skills! That dang Keavdog got me, too! I just bought some of those modules as my Christmas. Pretty well made it seems. I do wish they were a bit deeper. So I was curious about the cost vs me making my own. Check this out. I pretty much made my own version of these. Actually I will have one more, the tool holder and brush holder so add another $20 When its all complete, I will have spent $28 in material, $10 in clear boxes (the others I got free from work) and I will need to choose a paint color so lets call it another $6 in paint. So in the end I will have spent about $45 but its taking me weeks to build, and also not to mention I have a few thousand dollars worth of tools to build it all. Spending $100 bucks to have this all shipped to your house and all you need is some wood glue? 100% worth it. Snapped some photos this morning of the box dried, and inserted into its home. I think its coming along nicely. Another week or so and I should be ready to paint. Well see! Next will be the Desk/table top. Then the wall mounted cabinet and finally my garage will be clutter free!
