That does indeed look like a pretty tough area to fill and work with but given your work in this thread, I'd say you have a good chance of straightening everything out to your liking Bruce. Keep the updates comin' bro.....you're doing GREAT.

kyle / ceaser / deaf / stik / tcoat - happy friday my friends! Thanks for liking and viewing and hopefully following along; early this morning I decided to remove the overly aggressive scribed lines on the E’s barn doors (Shuttlecraft Bay Doors I reckon they’re called) and they took me awhile just to rough ‘em out, and still not quite smooth enough, as I ended by scraping with a moderately worn out x-acto blade in the end and still see some evidence left. Whew. Long sentence, eh? I will try to take a few snaps today or tomorrow.
Grits used so far - 240, 400, 600, 800 - I’m about to graduate to the 1,000 to 1,200 next

Oh, I have to be careful. Small notch. Fixable though! The small seam looks like a join that I need to address with more CA. I feel the shuttlecraft bay doors look a lot better smoother. I can kick myself for not doing the shaving beforehand!

Nice work. Filling the upper observation deck above the shuttlebay doors is not something I have witnessed often. It looks like such a finicky spot, I wouldn't dream of filling it personally XD

It looks like such a finicky spot, I wouldn't dream of filling it personally XD That’s another area I should have addressed before fuselage assembly. Adding a small piece of sheet styrene wasn’t too hard, though. I was lucky to have a sheet that was thick enough to add in!

Progress, despite heavy rain here in Southern California - Finally feel I’m seeing the correct shape but I have a lot of messy edges: here is a shot of the 92 restoration as a ref: Happy President’s Day to all the citizens of the U.S.A. I spent thirty minutes last night sanding away. Although I still haven’t eliminated the small amount of slices that were cut into the original part, these areas are quite reduced. I’m almost to the painful revelations of primer. Almost. Before that happens I would like to thin out the upper edge around the Shuttlecraft Bay Doors. See photo of the 92 restoration for the actual look. Thinner, eh? What do you fellas think? Also I think I want to thin out the very bottom edge of the bay platform - the part that meets the lovely curve below. Just a touch. And carefully. I think some compression or compromise occurred during the design phase of the kit.

tcoat stikpusher kyledehart jeaton01
Individual thanks - in order:
tcoat - Yes, the Enterprise is being repaired - although I'm not sure if those repairs are almost complete! stikpusher - You're correct, sir. What a sequence! What a film! I watched TWOK recently and it still holds up! kyledehart - You, sir, are far too kind, but I'll take that as a great compliment and try to be half as good as Montgomery Scott! jeaton01 - I truly appreciate your kind words and thank you, John. You, sir, are a tough act to follow, but I have learned so much from you!

All, I made another round of corrections last night - thinning out the edges, reshaping the forms - Here’s a reference shot from 1992:

This is great to see Bruce! What finesse you have even though I didn't think the upper parts above the bay doors needed any more work. To me they appeared you nailed it perfectly already. That being said, that shows what an incredible Master you are with an eye as sharp as an eagle's. I can't wait to see how much more you improved this beyond my comprehension. Keep it coming Bruce!

Captain Mark, I’m going to find your Maddog Thread on the forum! I need more modeling greatness in my life. Here’s where things stand - I have carved the sides and thinned the edges as much as I thought prudent or possible -

Thanks so much, deafpanzer - your work is inspiring to me and I thank you sincerely for your comments. AT&T cell service was interrupted from 2:30 am until quite recently - and still many do not have full coverage. My posts are late. Here’s a summary: Shuttle bay doors / aft section reshaping post a quick application of Mr Surfacer 1500 (still the king of cans!) Close up agonizingly so close to show the grinding areas that still need to be smoothed You can still see the divets where the original door lines were at the base - that’s after one fill of CA gap glue. Debating whether to add more to remove these!
