Helloooo! Let me preface this first by saying that I'm not a car guy. But I would really like to be! I have a lot to learn. Like, a lot. It doesn't help that I know very little about cars (compared to what I know about armor, aircraft, esoteric robot subjects, Star Wars, etc). If this build doesn't fit here, let me know. So my local model club attends a couple of shows together each year (one spring, one fall). Occasionally we get a bit motivated and decide as a bunch that we're going to attempt to fill every category with at least one entry at a particular show. We have a show just like that five weeks from today! It turns out that we're short in the "Street Rods before 1948" department, and so that fell on me, somehow. Haha. This weekend my bench has been occupied with this kit. Parts are all cleaned up, only a few are glued. I need to get myself down to the paint booth STAT to start getting some color on this thing.

Bookmarked this! I would say this is the place for learning whatever you wish about car builds.

Bookmarked this! I would say this is the place for learning whatever you wish about car builds. It certainly has turned into that! I have to get through this one pretty quickly, but I'm sure I'll be getting some solid advice anyway.

Yes! Welcome aboard. If you can build military, you can build cars. Military subjects with their advanced building techniques are the pinnacle of model building - especially dioramas, IMO.

Your build, your rules. I am doing stuff I never attempted for this build also. Looking forward to it.

Didn't see this one till now but I will be watching this one. There's plenty of experience here in this GB so reach out if you run into trouble on that paint job Marc.

I’m just seeing this one now also. Welcome to the GB! You picked a great kit to get into cars with. This one goes together nicely. I built it around 10-12 years ago. Looking forward to seeing your progress. You got this!👍

This one has to be a quickie, though. That, and I need to round up some supplies...like all of that high-grit sandpaper.

Want to make sure you guys don't think I'm shamming - got some paint on the parts (base coats, anyway). Good bit of detail painting to do. Laid down some Tamiya LP-1 on the body as an underlayer for the color coat - have to decide stat what I'm going with!

No shamming to be seen!! That looks great. So great it makes me want to drag this kit out and start on it. The ‘37 is a looker.

Um, you’ve laid that LP-1 down nicely. It’s going to look killer sharp with the clear coat and won’t need much if any polishing.

That looks like a small block Chevrolet engine with a 4 speed overdrive tranny....possibly a 700R4 or 4L60E? Either way it's going to look killer under that hood. Try a coat of Tamiya Smoke airbrushed over the rocker covers and see how that turns out. It'll take the toy effect away from the chrome and make it look more like real life chrome. Same with the wheels and bumpers if you're leaving all of that chrome.

Nice progress Marc, any idea what color you are going with for this? It will be one of these two! I need to pick, because I want to spray it this afternoon. Alclad Candy or a Vallejo color shifter (which I've been dying to try).

IMO, candies always look great on old rods. I just got the set of 3 AMT street rods, and will have plenty of candy tangerine and blaze red from my Demon build next. I would really like to do something with them on an old rod. Looking fantastic so far!

Clears - I have a couple of Mr Hobby bottles I haven't tried yet. GX100 and 112, I think?

I'm assuming the Alclad is sturdy enough to use decal setting solutions over (maybe that's a bad assumption). I have no idea about the Vallejo, though. Has anyone tried them?
