Holy cow, that paint is an absolute static monster. EVERYTHING within a three foot radius sticks to it. Any way to undo that? First off, what a clean lookin' build Marc. The paint and details are just out of this world and the stance is just killer!! I hope you feel a real sense of accomplishment with this finish up as this is just some really outstanding work man. As far as the static issues go. Use some Novus 1 paint finish and shine on it. Just put a little on a square section of chamois and rub it in. You won't have near the issues after using this stuff. Something that I use on kit chrome (especially wheels) to tone down the toy chrome effect is to airbrush a coat of Tamiya Smoke onto the chromed surface to give it more of a true chrome metal effect. To test, grab a set of chrome wheels and give this a shot as it really enhances the chrome to a more realistic effect.

There are definitely some things I would improve...but those are the same things I want to improve with every one of my car builds. I should really take the time to strip and paint all of the chrome bits. I do want to try the Tamiya smoke method, though. Do you spray liberally over the entire part? Or just try to hit the low spots? Novus 1! I might have some of that on my basement bench. I'll go down there and dig around after work. Seriously, the amount of flerm is ridiculous!

I echo the thoughts on getting better with every auto build Marc. I’m still working on certain aspects of getting better with every build. Hopefully one day I will get as good as Steve (goofy) or the likes of John Teresi. If you want to see some crazy cool builds look up John Teresi 39 Plymouth air radial engine truck. That dude is completely off the charts. With the Tamiya Smoke, I airbrush a mist coat and the build up to a wet coat. Don’t go for broke all at once, just build up costs till you get a good wet coat. You’ll fall in love with the stuff and see firsthand the difference that it makes. Novus 1 will indeed do the trick. I use it on every one of my auto builds.

Just for options, I have never used the smoke method but have two others that give similar results. These not only knock the chrome down to realistic levels but also highlight detail. Spring and wheels on left with a brushed on coat of Citadel black wash. ![](https://i.postimg.cc/RFx6G8ST/Chrome.jpg) Or for non show car more in scale realistic chrome Take this ![](http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/uploads/monthly_2022_12/296414583_Chrome(2).jpg.1f1cc14287c0113feeeca227f324766e.jpg) While laying nice and flat give a liberal coat of black tinted Future. This makes them even brighter but also fills the voids with black and highlights details. The black in the grill was from simply brushing the Future on. No wiping or other clean up needed. Then a light overspray of Dullcoat knock it down to a real chrome look. If want more gloss just do a clear gloss overtop of the dull to bring it back up without changing the tone. ![](http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/uploads/monthly_2022_12/384410738_Chrome2(2).jpg.cb6b99a3b394ac56f7b855c7b736aa66.jpg)

Good stuff Tony. What’s your ratio on the tinted future, if I may ask? I’d like to give that a try sometime.

I don't think many people do it but it is very effective for many effects. It is like a certain brand of hot sauce. ![](https://media.tenor.com/tQ58kAg2c4oAAAAM/i-put-that-on-everything.gif)
