Fired some 50/50 GX112/MLT on the extra floor board pieces (I'm going with the flat black corrugated option). Unless I'm missing something, and this all melts overnight, it appears good to go! Started with a mist coat, then applied a couple of heavier coats. Nice and glossy. You can see the demarcations on the bottom bit where I was holding with gloves. Looks good to me man. I’m not surprised. That gx stuff seems to be pretty easy going. If you go with the same process as you did here, it looks like you should be ok. When you have a reaction, you will usually see within 5 seconds to 15 minutes. I used to paint cars professionally, and would cringe when you saw lifting, cracking, fisheyes. I never shot anything in acrylics or water base, so this peaked my interest.

I'll check those pieces out again tomorrow after they've had time to sit a bit to see if there's any change...but I have to assume that any issues would have presented themselves by now!

If they’re still fine then they’re likely going to be fine. This is going to be a great looking build

Now to let those strips cure out and hit 'em with some fine grit paper. You've got a fairly smooth surface on those so I'd probably start with 4K and then work up through the 6, 8 and 12K papers just to get the feel for what you'll have to do on the real car. Watch the edges so you don't burn/ sand through as it happens quicker than you think. When you're sanding on the car watch the edges AND all raised detail.

If you go on Amazon, you can get packs of what I’ve been using- Godhand sanding strips or sponge blocks, priced pretty cheaply

It appears that my local Home Depot and Napa Auto Parts carry 1k, 2k, and 3k...but nothing above that. I'll check Hobby Lobby later this week!

We're in business! Scalehobbyist was quick to pack these up...got enough Flames to last me a bit. Sprayed the gloss layer this morning - decaling tonight.

I know, right? Helps that they're only one state over.
Clear went fine - the paint could certainly use a bit of sanding, but I don't have the tools/supplies for that yet. This build will have to do without, and I'll get myself all set up for the next one.
Picking a decal scheme is proving to be difficult!

Made some progress - chassis/engine are all assembled and attached. I had some issues understanding where some parts were supposed to fit, due mainly to the differing options available for wheel types. I'll have to find the particular part number. Need to clearcoat the decals tonight. Had a great scheme pieced together, but one of the decal sheets I ordered (the Round 2 set) shattered immediately after coming off of the backing paper. Had to come up with an alternate plan. It looks decent, but not what I had in mind!
Will get a pic up this evening.

Round 2, Revell, Tamiya. I’ve had issues with all of their decals even brand new kits. It can be frustrating. Can’t wait to see what you’ve got!!

Huh. Glad it's not just me, I guess. Too bad - their flame designs were the best! Here's the current status. Time to piece everything together. The interior side panels have some seriously vague location instructions...I wish they attached to the floor, not the wall.

Looking great. The color shift even stands out in pictures. And here you were worried about painting a car model, keep ‘em coming!

Really smooth work on that so far and the interior is coming out pretty snazzy too. I hear you on the positive location for the interior door panels. Sometimes I'll use something like Elmers glue to test out a location for them and put everything together to see how it's all gonna turn out. If they aren't in the right place, the panels can always be removed and re-adhered. When you've got them positioned right just mark the inside of the car body at the edges around the panel and then glue 'em into place using the marks for positioning.

It's definitely far easier to capture the color shift with a static pic vs being able to change angles, but I like it. Eventually I'll get the car-painting process down. A lot more to come!

Wow!! This is looking awesome. You’re doing some beautiful work. And the paint looks top notch!! Thanks Kyle! I certainly won't put any close-ups against the finishes that the real car guys here can achieve. I might be able to get a bit closer once I get the right tools in the stable, though. Will also be different when I'm not pressed for time to get things done! I took a few liberties with placement of the undercarriage bits when it wasn't super clear. Nobody will be looking under there once I'm done, anyway. Haha.

Have to try it tonight. I've been hesitant to attach them with the complete lack of positive placement. No tabs, or even an outline or something?
