Grille opening gives me nightmares after I did it on one grille 😂. Absolutely beautiful job. Looks amazing.

406 Silverado kyledehart5 Thanks fellas. A little trick I picked up from a podcast was to apply Tamiya Extra Thin to scribed panel lines in order to 'melt' any rough edges... seemed to smooth things out on the grill as well. Of course, everything is horribly magnified with photos, but it looks decent to the naked eye. Speaking of panel lines, this truck might be the first time I've scribed them without going outta the lines. I probably didn't make then deep enough or something... 8^I

It’s a good idea. If I ever decide to attempt the opened up grille again I will give it a try.

This kit is a bit of a dog. Too much cleanup and too many ill-fitting parts. Pretty much ALL of the attachment points / locator pins on the chassis and suspension parts needed to be bored-out or sanded down. Not a big deal, but extra unnecessary work. The square pin had to be filed about 40%.
Anyhoo, everything is ready for primer.

The grill looks good, and great idea using magnets on the hood.

Coming along very well on this one buddy. I hear you on kits like these being a bit of a dog and that shock is living proof of that fact. I have to deal with the excess mold lines and flash on just about every old/ re-released kit that I build.

Just caught up on this one, fantastic work so far! That grill is awesome! The suspension chunkiness reminds me of the last car build I did years ago

Unfortunately so many of our favourite, older American cars are made from crappy old molds. :^(

Not enjoying this build at all… add some negative modelling on my part and I'm just trying to push this one over the finish line. :^(

Update:Subassemblies under way. All parts painted. Tried spraying directly from the can as opposed to decanting for the airbrush… mad that stuff comes out quick. Had to strip a couple parts due to runs plus carelessness on my part with a stray drop of thinner on the finished paint. Major mojo sucker… can’t wait to get thing off the bench.
FYI: There is nothing better than www.tamiya.com/english/products/87183/index.html for removing lacquer paint. No gooey mess or hard scraping, does not melt the plastic and works extremely fast!

Jeez dude. Sorry to hear about the paint stripping blues but it looks like you made it through this part. Thank you for the link on the Tamiya Paint Remover. Never heard of it but I'll be ordering some because I paint with lacquers all the time.

Engine looks great. A shining moment in the battles you’ve had with this kit. When I stripped my Demon, 91% isopropyl alcohol worked well on the lacquer paints I had used on it. It even removed the Tamiya primer. I will keep this one in mind for next time with a styrene kit👍

A couple tires has scratch marks on the whitewalls; plus the tire beads had extra white on them that could be seen right up against the hub caps as opposed to being black rubber (if that makes sense(?)). Ok, no more complaining. Definitely building a Tamiya next :^)

LA’s Totally Awesome can’t touch it, SuperClean works but it’s quite slow and requires some scraping. Brake fluid works but it’s too nasty to work with.

Looks fantastic. What do paints did you do your exhaust etc in? The steering linkage and exhaust pipes are AK Interactive Xtreme Metallizer Chrome painted over grey primer, not gloss black. This results in a less shiny finish. The tranny is their Dark Aluminum over the same blue used on the engine block. The muffler was weathered a little with Tamiya’s Weathering Kit D. It actually turned out darker in the photo. I’ll take another photo under better lighting when the kit is complete. A note regarding AK Metallizer paints. These are by far the easiest paints to apply! They come airbrush-ready and cover beautifully with low PSI - “so simple a caveman can do it.” The only caveat is they are a ‘little’ sensitive to over-handling and don’t like heavy applications of Tamiya Panel liner. I’m sure a coat of clear would remedy this.
