Update: nothing too crazy, chassis pretty much done Looks like a good mix of different lusters of black to provide some contrast and depth to the chassis. Details are well picked out too. A little bit of a cheat going on there… I’ve gotten into the habit of using Grey Tamiya Panel Liner for nuts and bolts and other smaller details.

Update: Interior is done. Again, nothing crazy. Just a couple colours and black panel liner. I considered painting the seat piping and adding seatbelts, however given my disdain for this kit/build I’ll save it for a convertible.

Even though you dislike this kit, one would never be able to tell that because you’re sure putting a LOT of lovin into it. Interior is looking SHARP!!!!

The cost of model kits, tools and supplies is quite high in Canada. An average new car kit being in the $50 range. We pay 13% sales tax (Ontario) on top of that. Wouldn’t be right to just ‘mail it in’… better to get a little practice, maybe try a new technique and look forward to the next one.

Looking good even with the issues with yours.

Despite all the troubles, this is looking great. Many people would have seen it taking a plunge, like on Groundhog Day! Your patience looks like it is being rewarded.
I hear you on the price of kits, I will probably have over $200 in this Demon build before it is done. Keep up the good work, in the pictures, your build is looking like a million bucks.

Pretty soon we won’t be able to afford our modelling stuffs… with the new carbon tax and gas going up $0.14/litre tonight - as they switch to ‘summer blends.’

Appreciate the vote of confidence. 8^) If it’s a magnum opus build, a favourite subject or one that holds sentimental value, I see nothing wrong with spending extra time and/or money to make it something special.

Yeah, that sucks. Not worry, I’m pretty sure when the ‘blend’ switchover is complete the prices will come right back down.

Update: cab is masked and ready for paint. I’m thinking of trying that new, ridiculously expensive Revell Chrome in the rattle can. I’d like to decant it, however, it might be a little messy as the nozzle doesn’t stick out like the ones on the Tamiya cans.

Decanted and gassing out with cap sitting loosely on top. Weird looking stuff. It certainly bubbles - especially when you touch it with a toothpick or coffee stirrer, but nothing like Tamiya sprays. Gonna try thinning it with Unicorn Tears.

Well, this stuff lives up to the hype. It’s definitely chrome. Thinned 2:1 with MLT sprayed at 15’ish PSI. Applied a mist coat first followed by a single heavier wet coat. This stuff is supposed to be fragile - depending on whom you listen to. It cannot be clear coated as it kills the shine. Going to put it in the dehydrator for a while.

kyledehart5 moparman18064 mrt51 handiabled Appreciate it fellas. Still going to avoid touching it for a couple days. When the light hits it on certain angles, it is very shiny - perhaps too much for this vehicle.

I have had a bottle of that for years and hoard it for such tasks. It is very durable for a chrome finish.

tcoat Does it have to be sprayed over a gloss black base? Alclad, AK, Zero etc require a black base for maximum effect. The Revell product does not.

Best chrome paint I ever used. Unfortunately it isn't made anymore. Hard for me to get a good picture of chrome but the side pipes here are just one coat hand painted directly onto bare white plastic. The bottom one shows the chrome effect a bit better in the pic. It is far better in person.
Here it is right on the green. The windshield trim is Bare Metal Foil and you can see the chrome paint is almost as shiny even though thin and sort of drybrushed on.

Hmm, that does look pretty good. And yes, photos don’t show the chrome effect very well. Reflect too much white into it and it looks like aluminum; too much black and there’s no chrome; direct light and the highlights are blown out.
In the end, it’s good to have extra options at our disposal - except Model Master ;^/

Update: bed is masked and ready for paint. Going to try a wood finish. The molding takes a wood grain treatment beautifully. The decals in this kit are total trash so paint is the way to go.

Didn’t wanna complain more about this kit, but the decals are horrendous! They break apart very easily and don’t stick. I like what you did with your wood. I’m thinking of doing the same with aluminum trim. :^) I haven’t done a wood finish on any larger than a steering wheel. There is a nice grain pattern in the floor boards so maybe some kind of wash will work well. EDIT: after looking at your photo again, I realized I didn’t chrome the rear window.

For unpainted wood steps 1 through 3 modelerssocialclub.proboards.com/thread/16157/weathering-truck-cargo-bedsYou can leave the rear window just painted since they did not always have chrome. I chromed everything since it was more of a "show" truck.
