(My wife): Is that a new model? (Me): uh .. ya. (My wife): Aren't you already working on one? (Me): uh .. ya, but this one is soo awesome! (My wife): How many projects are you currently working on? (Me): ..uh, 8 .. no no sorry .. 9. (My wife): .. shakes her head ... Oh man... what can I say - I see shiny things and bang! I knew I could not resist starting this model once it arrived despite being in the middle of my 023 build Who's kidding who I have 7 statues slash dioramas that I started last year that are in various stages of completion, so yes I have ADHD dear I love this Car!! Yes despite the fact that it never turned a single lap during an F1 race - it never qualified for a single race. This was of course during the era of having to qualify in order to get the chance to qualify - a very silly time in F1, but there you go! Another Yamaha engine is no surprise and clearly the explanation. Now having said all that it is a beautiful beast in my eyes and has always been on my list of must builds. The *Yamaha Zakspeed Zk891 by HASEGAWA* Last night I couldn't resist starting, and of course what was meant to be a quick session found me falling in love with this kit and the body shell shape - so I completed full body assembly and sanded ready for a first shot of fine primer tonight to help show me what areas still need attention. The fit issues on this kit were massive, and I spent most of the night sanding down miss aligning panels - my first Hasegawa kit and I wish tamiya had made one lol ... spoiled by Tamiya's fit yes, however I see this as a challenge and I persevered! The large difference in overall size from the 1/20 023 was the first thing I noticed and I feel excited again to be working on this smaller scale as it feels much more delicate, and will require a lot lighter of a touch with everything I do. There were 10 separate parts that I put together to create the entire body shell you see in the pic - this way there will be no seamd and it will be a curbside model even though I will completely detail and finish everything under the cowling - full engine detail will be there even though it won't be seen. I will continue to build both models at the same time with more focus on the completion of the 023, but the ZK891 will be my 2nd entry into the Open Wheel Build Category

Cool! I'm curious to see how the Hasegawa F1 kit goes together. Well I knew fit would not be as beautiful as Tamiya, but it was pretty bad I must say on the body panels - a lot of heavy sanding required after sawing off the difference in fit - which I don't mind to be honest on a kit this small - and the fine detail is pretty awesome by Hasegawa on this little rascal - and the plastic although thin is quite hard/solid so allows for alot of sanding without compromising the integrity.

Adrian, Gee, it doesn't surprise me one bit that your ADHD has caused you to start GB kit #2. I do remember you having a similar issue with your last Indy car build and a Nascar build. You were so laser focused on detail layer after detail layer on both kits. But the end game was two simply outstanding builds. So in this case I'm sure that the ends will more then justify the means.

James, I just loved the Lotus 78 with it's ground effects and that Iconic gloss Black with Gold striping. So I'd say bring it on.

You're spot on Joel According to my wife though, I must try and exercise some level of self restraint and or preservation lol ... so I will have to keep it at 2 builds at once only - no more!

Adrian, Two builds at one time is way better then your wife saying no builds. One day you'll get to the point where I'm at where my wife just walks past my model/computer room and shakes her head. She's also never gone down to the dungeon to see my model railroad, shakes her head when the bills started to roll in for it. Now it's mostly done as far as engines, cars, most structures, so the bills are way smaller (at least for now), but every time one of the delivery trucks stops and drops off a package she still can't understand why I'm still buying kits and supplies at my age.

I only have one project at any given time which makes her raise her eyebrows even more. lolol This looks like it's going to be one of those stellar builds when it's all said and done.

Adrian, The body looks great in it's primer coat, but if anyone can find issues, I'm always betting on you for sure. Can't wait to see some paint on her.
Just love your White Leather seat and the racing harness. Just a great touch for sure.

Adrian, Fpr me primer is a big step, but the 1st of the color coats is the major step as the build really starts to take on a personality of its own.

Adrian , From the looks of your pic, I'd say that the shell is more then ready for it's 1st primer coat.

Adrian, Now that's a fantastic method the white and red using the lower edge of the gold stripe after sealing it in clear Matt. I've had my eye on the old Monogram Bill Elliot Melling Coors Coors Thunderbird, but was really concerned on how to actually go about. You method should work perfectly.

Great update Adrian. That’s a really good idea for the paint demarcation and I’m looking forward to seeing that once the red is down. The trim decal and white look awesome!

Adrian, As a side note maybe 6 or so years ago I built the Tamiya 1/24 scale Rothman 956 Porsche which the sides are blue and the top is white. But the line isn't straight and there's a red & gold demarcation line between them. So when I painted the body I got it pretty close, but not perfect, and the decaling was able to cover the issues. But like I said, your method while more time consuming, looks like it is the perfect application method.
