I have been thinking of adding a dehydrator to the workshop. Cutting down on dry time would help me a lot because of the dust in my garage from all my woodworking tools. Adrian, could I trouble you for dimensions of this particular model? If it can fit on my workbench next to the spray booth I may finally decide to get one.

Hey mate! Yes I will give you the dimensions and full info. when I get home tonight no problem - it's the 30 litre size but there is a 42 as well. This one is pretty large though but it looks nice and is very easy to use

This is looking great. I don't have any open wheel stuff and all I need is more kits.
Do it! Do it! Once you go open wheel you'll never go back

Adrian, Now that's a fantastic method the white and red using the lower edge of the gold stripe after sealing it in clear Matt. I've had my eye on the old Monogram Bill Elliot Melling Coors Coors Thunderbird, but was really concerned on how to actually go about. You method should work perfectly. joel Joel, we are kindred spirits as that Elliot Nascar ride was one of the first kits I ever built - I built the STARTER series kit if you remember those in the orange boxes - resin and so much fun those kits were - but yes I love the Coors livery and that would be a great use for this technique for sure - now that's provided I can pull it off lol!! I am going to give it my best shot

Adrian, As a side note maybe 6 or so years ago I built the Tamiya 1/24 scale Rothman 956 Porsche which the sides are blue and the top is white. But the line isn't straight and there's a red & gold demarcation line between them. So when I painted the body I got it pretty close, but not perfect, and the decaling was able to cover the issues. But like I said, your method while more time consuming, looks like it is the perfect application method. joel I certainly hope it works the way I think it will - definitely I will have to tread very lightly with the red application so as not to have any build up at the separation point - a lot of wet sanding will be required no doubt.

Adrian, Your excellent work is always a pleasure to follow. Wpw!! we really do think a like. I use to build some 1/43 scale Starter kits and loved them. But just my luck they closed up shop. Easy and a fun build for sure. I got to paint and decal like all the time. What could be better.

Adrian, Figures that the one 1/43 company that actually made Can Am cars and in resin no less that was so easy tp prepare for painting, closed it's doors, and the remaining companies are mostly White metal. a good few dozen metal suspension parts, and super expensive just to get to the part parts I liked as a builder/collector, painting & decaling. Just great times till the party ended.

Adrian, I truly feel your pain and frustration. But your positive attitude will surely let you focus on a workable solution. I've had these issues from time to time, and avoid masking even with Tamiya tape de-tacked over a decal sealed in Clear gloss. It always amazes me watching Vids where they do this procedure with no issues.
Not that it helps but the issue seems to be poor adhesion, was it decal or surface issue? Maybe trapped air.
Looking forward to how you solved this issue.

Thanks Keav! I spend so much time correcting my mistakes, honestly I could have finished twice as many models by now lol ... it's just a part of the process really no matter how good you are I think the model gods are really the ones in control

No one makes more mistakes then I do. There's days I worse off at the end of a work session then I was before I Started my session.
Adrian, I have no doubt that you'll end up with a perfect looking decal.

Chiming in to say I hate Hasegawa decals possibly even more than I hate Tamiya ones. 😂. The aftermarket has spoiled me for decals. I’m sorry this has happened but I know you’ll get a solution worked out. That red sure is beautiful.

The tolerance for error on a kit like this is nil and your frustration with a proven process is completely understandable. Like you said, this is modeling, so expect it. Great attitude, you go this, Adrian! Ruck On!

you are absolutely right man ... on a kit like this the tolerance for error literally is zero, and it's early days and I find myself rushing for some reason so I put on the brakes and this morning I just ordered a second full kit from vancouver.
This way I will be able to not only redo the decal trim but if I damage break lose a piece - which is highly likely lol, I will have a replacement. I have to be patient and that is not one of my strengths so it's really hard, but like you said, on a kit like this the margin for error truly is zero.

So, with the Tyrrell body completed and the wing completed, this week I should be able to bring it across the finish line as long as final assembly goes smoothly .. which it never does lol ... so wish me luck, I have had time to concentrate on the ZK891.
Below are pics of assembly, sanding, priming and first coat of aluminum on the engine/gearbox assembly.
It is a lovely little motor, but I am learning quickly that I have been spoiled by Tamiya all these years and Hasegawa - although the end result can be lovely with a lot of finishing - is quite a few levels below Tamiya in there molds. I know they do models of cars that no one else would do, which is why it's great to have them around, but I don't think I will do another Hasegawa kit anytime soon given how much work is required to bring a part to the primer stage vs. Tamiya.
Having said that, I accept the challenge head on and I am enjoying the delicateness of this kit overall.
Because I'm putting red over white - due to the sequence of application, I have finally got the red on with full coverage, and tonight I will wet sand and then remove the tape to hopefully reveal the final separation of white
and red, and then on to the decaling process this week.

Nice update Adrian. I see what you mean about their molds being a step or two below Tamiya. But to give them credit, it is a 1/24 scale kit.

Adrian, Agreed, Hasegawa is certainly a step or two below a Tamiya kit but that certainly didn't stop you from laying down one super gloss Red paint job. And it's not even rubbed out yet.
I'm really looking forward to following your progress till she crosses the finish line. As a side note, my Tamiya 1/20 scale Williams FW07 that was molded in the very early 1980s is in now way close to what Tamiya is today. But still with a lot of work especially in trying to under their instructions which look more like a Pirate's map with lines and arrows all over the place yet half the time seem to go now where is proving to be a real challenge as well.
