While I'm waiting for the parts to finish my Tamiya Mazda 787B to arrive, I decided start Nunu's new 911 RSR. It represents to latest version, the 991.2, introduced in 2019. Wikipedia has a good page on the later 911 GT3Rs and RSRs here. Nunu had announced a 991 GT3R at the same time they announced this kit, but it's since been shelved. This is a simple kit, with no engine and little suspension, which is fine since none of this is visible on the real car. The body is one piece and had just some faint mold seams to sand off. I don't see any ejector pin marks in unfortunate places. Nunu provides their odd, tapered wheels and tires, of which I'm not a fan. Decalcas is releasing some 3D printed replacements, but I'm just going to live with the kit parts. This version has the Pink Pig livery, but the black sprues have "2023 Macau" on them, so there will eventually be plenty of other liveries to choose from. I didn't think t*tty pink would fit in with my office decor, so I'm using some decals from SK Decals to do Ben Keating's Wynn's 2020 Le Mans car. Here are some pics of the kit as a placeholder. I'm in the process of priming the body and getting the basic colors on the other parts. The interior of the current cars is a light tan instead of the white that Nunu calls for. I haven't come up with a good mix for it, yet, but I'm leaning towards Tamiya Deck Tan or RLM 02 as a staring point. I'll post more progress pics soon, once I get some paint on things. Ben

I got it from HobbySearch a week or so ago. I get almost all of my Japanese kits from them. They get the new stuff several weeks before anyone else and have them at a decent price. Shipping is fast and doesn’t cost all that much.

Ben, Looking forward to your non-Pink Pig build. Can't wait to see what the paint and decal scheme is.
I've started to collect a few curbside kits as right now while I'm going several months of Retina injections. my eyesight has gotten worse. I'm struggling with the Lotus 49 but hope to get her across the finish line. Then a few curbsides which look just as good in there display cases. Picked up another of the endless Fujimi 962c's as I've had the Indy Cal Camel decals for it for several years, and the Mazda 767b but not doing the Charge scheme, rather the Daytona 24 car.

I expect I'll end up ordering this one from Japan as well. So much more cost effective. But not right now!! I need to build not buy!! Advice I never follow. LOL. Looking forward to following along with this one.

I've never ordered any models from Hobby Search or for that matter from any of the Japanese online retailers. I still bite the bullet from time to time and buy Japanese kits that I can't get here in the States from Spot Models in Spain. The last kit I ordered was the Nunu 991/911 GT3 RSR kit that Ben's building. The Shipping from either the USPS or UPS is nearly as much as the model. And buying more then one kit to save on shipping doesn't seem to work as two kits UPS was $88 !!
So how is the shipping costs from Japan when buying from Hobby Search?

Shipping for my last two orders with them cost ~$30 for two kits and ~$20 for one. It usually only takes a little over a week to get my order. They're less expensive than ordering from Spot Model, but I still try to order from Spot every now and them to support a great company.

Ben, That's way better then the $33 for a single kit and a decal sheet via UPS as I just don't trust the USPS when I have other options.
BTW, I opted for the Gulf Team markings for my Porsche 991/911 GT3 RSR, as this will be my 3rd different car in those colors/markings.

This looks like a great interim build Ben. It's really ashame about the wheels in the kit but sounds like you've got a plan in rolling forward with that. The pink not going with your office livery. lolololol. Looking forward to seeing your work on this one brother.

Joel, I forgot to respond to your comment about the Hasegawa 767B. It’s a good, simple kit. I don’t recall having any problems with it other than the headlight covers not fitting very well. Or maybe that was the Hasegawa Mercedes C9? I built them both during the lockdown, so my memory is a little blurry. One thing I do remember about the Hasegawa C9 is I should’ve bought the Tamiya C9 instead. The 911 RSR looks great in Gulf colors! The kit wheels should look okay once they’re on the model, based on my builds of their M6 GT3, M8 GT3, and Audi R8 GT3 kits. The tires still had a very slightly larger diameter on the outboard sides, but I was able to knock it back some while sanding off the mold parting lines. Ben

Ben, Thanks for the answer on the 767b. I'm still on the fence about actually buying it with those markings as I've already have both the Indy Cal and another AM decal sheet for these marking. Of course there's the Charge markings that this car also ran, or just go with the 787b.
Oh, your build is as usual looking simply outstanding.

Well, what you did there looks great, but I do hear you on acquiring a Tamiya version of dang near anything. A few years ago, I built a Revell Corsair for a friend of mine and I SOOOOOOOOOOOOO wanted to throw it in the trash and get a Tammy version of it as it would've made life a LOT easier. I was at a stage where there was no turning back and had a time frame that I was in a race with, so I pressed on. Another note to self- NEVER build another Revell Corsair.

Joseph, I use to have that very mantra of Tamiya, Tamiya, Tamiya over any other kit manufacture that makes the car/version I'm interested in, but I just don't feel that way these days. For me it all depends on what type of build I want to do: OOB but with plenty of details especially under the hood, or curbside. And then what level of curbside. for example, Hasegawa's infamous Porsche 962c series. You just can't get anymore basic, but Nunu/Platz are curbsides on Steroids. They cost more, but are worth it as it's just a way better kit.

For aircraft it's definitely Tamiya for me though. With Tammy aircraft kits you could pretty much cut all the parts from the sprues, shake the box up and toss it on the floor and it'll practically build itself.

Joseph, In my aircraft days, especially 1/48 scale it was #1 Tamiya. #2+ Eduard. Now don't laugh, but I've started to think about every once in a while going back to my way younger years and building a few WW II props. If nothing else, the painting was so much easier, and way more consistant.

The Tamiya C9 is glorious. Even if I were building curbside I’d buy that one first. I’m perfectly happy building curbside race cars and these Nunu kits sure seem to be about as good or better than anything these days.

Like I said earlier, a great deal of the type of kit we want to build lies solely in what we want to get out of the hobby, and therefore what goals we have for the finished model.
For me these days is more about a finished set of models for display where the entire focus is on the overall finished model.

I primed the body to better be able to see any flash or flaws that need to be addressed. Mostly just a tiny bit of flash inside the radiator outlet vents. I've since filled the hole in the roof where the pitot tube mounts. Keating's car didn't have one at Le Mans. I've got almost everything else, like the cockpit and chassis parts, ready to paint. Once that's done, this should go together pretty fast. The Wynn's purple paint should be here Tuesday, so hopefully I'll have a pretty picture to post on Wednesday afternoon. Ben

Today’s mold technology is really impressive.
Joel, if you can’t get the decals from Spot, HobbyEasy, out of Hong Kong, has them. It took about a week for them to get here.

Ben, Thanks for the heads up. I'm planning on making Hobby Search my #1 Asian kit retailer along with decals and some AM (very, very little of the stuff as I just don't get along well with any of it). If I buy paint from them as I'm assuming that they carry brands that I just can't get here like Gia and Finish, is it still shipped by air?
