Ben, Thanks for the heads up. I'm planning on making Hobby Search my #1 Asian kit retailer along with decals and some AM (very, very little of the stuff as I just don't get along well with any of it). If I buy paint from them as I'm assuming that they carry brands that I just can't get here like Gia and Finish, is it still shipped by air? joel Hi Joel, Hobby Search is great! It's also nice how they have copies of the instructions online, so you can make sure you have all the right paints you'll need. I don't know how they ship paint. I try to get my paint from the US, just to avoid shipping hassles, although I do buy from Gravity Colors - Spain if Splash Paints doesn't have what I'm looking for. I've never heard of Gia or Finish paints. Looks like Gia is available from Galactic Toys here in the US. Ben

Ben, Gravity of Spain is by far my favorite paint. It's just that to make it a worth while purchase, I have to buy paint or supplies I really don't need or want.

Like I said earlier, a great deal of the type of kit we want to build lies solely in what we want to get out of the hobby, and therefore what goals we have for the finished model. For me these days is more about a finished set of models for display where the entire focus is on the overall finished model. joel That’s where I’m at, too. Too many subjects I want to finish and display, too little time to do them. Ben This definitely describes me right now to a tee!! I've been working on my current build for over 10 months and don't have a color coat on it as of yet. Getting close but no cigar. This car body looks pretty dang clean to me Ben. I'll be lookin' forward to the color flyin' on this one.

Joel, I end up buying paint I don’t really need from Gravity, too. They do have a better selection than Splash, but Splash can do custom mixes, mostly for factory colors. He’s told me to see what I think about his best guess for Wynn’s purple and he can try something else if it doesn’t look good.
The parts on this kit are very clean, with barely any mold parting lines. I’ve had to fill a couple of shallow sinkholes in the mirrors and roll cage, but that’s it. I’ve already got the cockpit and suspension parts painted and I just need to add some decals before I start gluing stuff together. Hopefully, it will all fit as good as it looks.

Ben, That's really nice of Splash to let you try out the custom paint. I'm sure that Gravity has the exact color, but like we both said, you just can't buy one or two bottles as the shipping will kill you.

I contacted Gravity to see if they’re planning to make the shade of purple for the 911 but they never responded. The purples used on the AMG GT3 and Ford GT were darker. Profil24 used to sell the correct color for their kit, but it’s no longer available and was €15 when it was.

Ben, Come to think of it, the few times I emailed them, they never answered either.
Have you contacted Mike at MCW or splash Colors?

I haven't tried MCW. He's actually right down the road from me. Samuel, from Splash Paints, has always been good about answering questions, usually on the same day. My order from him should be here any minute. I hear the mail lady driving down the other side of the street.

After a spoon test looked good this morning, I went ahead and painted the body, wing, and door handles. I think Splash got pretty close to the correct color, but it’s hard to tell from photos. It’s definitely close enough for me. I’ll clear coat it in a couple of days. I’ve done most of the painting on the cockpit and chassis. I like how the black boxes are separate parts. Makes everything easier to paint. It turns out that Nunu got the basic color of the cockpit right. It was a light tan on the first few cars, then white. There is a large patch of silver on the rear bulkhead for the heat shield and the upper half is exposed carbon fiber. The brake calipers were anodized black. Mine came out a little too dark. Once I paint the fluorescent dials and buttons on the steering wheel and console, I’ll be able to put it all together. Nunu has really done a great job on this kit! Ben

Nunu has really done a great job on this kit!Ben Looks like Nunu isn't the only one who's done a great job on this kit Ben. You're knocking this one into tomorrow buddy. That car body paint finish is as smooth as silk and you're really going all out on all of the detail work on this one. Beautiful work so far!!

Thanks! Hopefully the clear coats will turn out just as smooth. Ben I'll be watching for that and you're right Ben as I have concerns for continued success on any paint job that I tackle with the clear coats in mind. I've ruined more than one good paint job with a clear cloat blunder and most all of the time it was my fault. lol

Ben, Like I said, you're just flying through this build. Paint came out perfect. It's pretty smooth and glossy for what I'm used to with Lacquers, which I think Splash paints are.
What I really like about Nunu, & PLatz curbside kits are that they what I call curbside kits on Steroids. Just enough detail so that the car from the outside looking in is pretty much decked out.
Outstanding detail painting especially on the brakes and the exhaust, really adds quite a lot to the look of the kit.

Thanks, everyone! It is going pretty fast, not because I’m a fast modeler, but because it’s really a simple but very well done kit. I’ve had to do very little time-consuming cleanup on the parts. Having the black boxes as separate parts and a one color body has really sped up the painting process. Plus, it helps that everything is mostly black or white. I was just looking at the sprues for their upcoming M4 GT3 and they’ve gone back to molding the black boxes as part of the floorpan. I guess because they had to spend more resources on the molds for the complex body.
Joel, I agree. For me Nunu’s kits have just the right mix of detail and simplicity. And also subject matter, since modern GT cars are my favorite. I wish they’d do a GT3 Huracan, current 911, and NSX as well.

I'm building mine as Ben Keating's Wynn's-sponsored car. I would make another off-color joke (pardon the pun) about the kit livery's color but I don't want to get into trouble with the mods. SK Decals has released several different liveries and LB Productions has a couple more. Here's what's available at SpotModel: LINK BTW, I can't recommend Decalcas decals. I tried them on my Ford GT LM and they were garbage. Ben

Hmmm. I’m going to have to research decal options as well. The Wynn’s car is a great choice. The pink pig, while iconic, was never my favorite even on the original.

Kyle, I've got the car on pre-order at Spot Models which is now officially over due. I also decided against the Pink Pig version as the more I thought about it, the only Pink Pig I really want to build is the original 1971 LeMans Porsche 917/20. So I also ordered the AM SK decals for the Gulf sponsored car.

Joel, I’m looking forward to seeing what you do with the Gulf livery. kyledehart5, there are some nice liveries available. I almost went with the Rothmans tribute car, but thought the Wynn’s would look good with my Wynn’s AMG and Ford GT. That one sheet for the Dempsey car looks pretty intense! Ben

Ben, Right now the major issue is actually getting the kit. I only bought it on pre-order because it was due in at Spot in less then 2 weeks. Now it's listed as when ever kind of deal. I tried to get a refund last week but they only would issue a credit to your Spot Wallet. If I knew that I would never have gone that route. To me a refund is my funds back the same way I paid them. Lesson learned.

That why I check HobbySearch or Hobby Easy first. They get new releases weeks or even months before Spot does, and usually for a bit less. Last time I had to return something to Spot, he just gave me store credit. Spot, BNA Model World out of Australia, and Burbank’s House of Hobbies in California are sort of my second tier suppliers to go to for what I need. I’ve never had to or tried to return anything to Japan or Hong Kong. Given what it would cost me to ship something back, I don’t see myself ever doing that.

The chassis and cockpit are finished except for the steering wheel. I just have to paint the fluorescent dials on it. I’ll add the brakes after I fix a toe out problem with the front wheels. The steering rack is a bit too long. I’m debating just gluing the hubs straight or taking a tiny section out of the rack and splicing it back. I’ll probably just do the former. I keep looking over the body to see if there is anything else that needs to be painted before I start on the decals, but it doesn’t look like there is. I’ll have to wait until tomorrow to get started. Gotta prune the bushes and rake some leaves today. Ben

Ben, One of the few good things about getting old (2 years to hit 80), I don't mow lawns, and I don't rake leaves. Doctor's orders. But I do prune my bushes several times during the growing season. Oh yeah, I only snow blow because I have one of Toros super snow blowers.
the Chassis and interior really looks outstanding. Can't wait to see the body shell resting on it.
