Shelf Queens. Time to Go! USS Enterprise

Hey there everyone! I moving to the next queen in my quest to finish off the queens. After watching The Final Countdown over the weekend I got bit by the aircraft carrier bug so I'm jumping on it! This is the Tamiya 1/350 Enterprise. So far she has most of the railing on and the island is 75% done. The PE is from Gold Metal Models along with decal sheets for the ship and airwing. My plan is to give the flight deck color. I am going for a early/mid 80's Enterprise with the intro of the F18 so I can do the two tonecolors on some of aircraft. I have some shots of the ship. Will post the aircraft, PE, and decals alittle later.

Thanks Chris! I've wanted this kit since it came out in the 80's, got as a Christmas present in 98, started building it 3 years ago. Break that boat on out and lets build!

Thanks Gary! I started working on the island, that's what drove me mad when I first started to build her. The angles on the front of it, what were the designers thinking?! Anywho I got past it this time! should have more pics later. see ya!

Thanks Lee! Ah great minds think alike! I already have the clear glued to the inside of the island, but I can seem to get the flash from the camera to reflect. I think I was supposed to tint the windows green.

Small update! After bending and rebending I finally got the railings on the forward part and above flight ops done! One of these days I'll get an etch mate!

Thanks Gary! I think after this doing the tool straps on Dragon kits will be a breeze! Oh I thought the hard part was over until I got to one of the yardarms! Pics will come later. Call me mad but I can't wait to dress the aircraft! ;D

LOL! To tell the truth Joe, the angles on the island are what put her on the shelf. My wife tells me that I was just staring into nowhere mumbling something that sounded like railings and angles. LOL! ;D

Holy cow... all of those decals came with the kit? It is going to be one great build to follow... echo guys comments about rails looking real good.

prof- This is the kit I have waited for, for a long time. I guess the patience meter is a bit higher, also a few extra smoke breaks seam to help. ;D

Thanks for all the comments guys! Hope everyone is enjoying the build! Ok this update has more railings but some fun stuff too. The mast and the yardarms are finished. I'll got a say that gluing the second from the top yardarm in place was not a bright idea! Trying to bend the railings was truly a pain! I tried to get a closeup of it for you. After gluing the mast in place the ladders, instruments and radars were glued in place. I found some more clear plastic and put some glass in what I think is the flight deck control booth. Have a couple more railings to go on and the rigging and I should be ready for paint! Ok enough rambling here are the pics!
Oh! the first pic is what I use to bend the PE! ;D
