Well, don't argue with her, cause her paint costs more than ours, HA!

TJ & Mike, those are some sweet looking areas! Very nice!
Leon, I take it that earthquakes dont happen where you live? Those adjustable wall bracket shelves don’t do well with earthquakes. Don’t ask…😕

I offered my wife she can use my paint shaker for her nail color. Till now she didn't take advantage of it.

Wow, love the depth of the counters and all the paint storage. Great workplace. LOL - thanks! Me too! I built the benches in Mar 2020. I have been building the paint shelves as I need them. I had been using an old 4x6 drafting table and old box tops for my paint storage. The only problem with having that much space is that I want to fill it with stuff. Or I can move to a more uncluttered area of my bench instead of cleaning up. You know, 1st world problems...

Andrew, I marvel at your ability to make the best with what you've got. Sometimes it just requires a wee bit of creativity for effective space management. It's all about the quality of builds you turn out from your space. Is this one of the driving reasons for your building in 1/72 scale? I know it is for me. You do remarkable things my friend.

Thanks Guys! Joe Rix to answer your question....initially no but later on yes! Back in 2014 my then six year old son decided he wanted a model tank, after I mentioned I used to make them during a visit to a general hobby/craft store that sold an ok range of kits. He decided he wanted the Airfix 1/76 Matilda (Aussie prototype with Spigot mortar on the back). I also bought their Pz IV F1/F2 so we could have some uber simple father/son 'battles'. I eventually managed to get them finished but they were far too complicated for him to be able to help out and the Matilda's suspension even tried my patience a bit. Then I stumbled across these 'new-fangled' 1/72 fast assembly kits (it had been 25+ years remember!!), specifically Armourfast, PSC and more recently Zvedza and bought more to build up the size of our respective armies as it was what I had war-gamed in in my youf - see here.... But it quickly became clear that with the limited space we had 1/72 was the way to go.....at least until recently!! Thanks again chaps!

Andrew, I can sympathize. For many of the early years of my marriage, I had similar set ups, depending upon the apartment that we happened to live in at the time. It is indeed a case of making maximum and efficient use of available spaces.

Andrew, your wife is definitely a keeper! I have plenty of space in my basement so you are welcome to build yours here as long as you bring all of your stash to share with me.

Well since I have now discovered this section of this truly wonderful forum I figured I'd post up my areas of fun. Not as great as some of the rooms I have seen in this thread but it works for me! We live in a farmhouse constructed in 1870. So, not much in the way of bonus rooms or finishable basements or anything like that. However, my wife wouldn't want me to retreat into a mancave for hours on end while I'm building, so even if I had the room it is doubtful I would utilize it. She hasn't gotten too tired of me yet, and likes for me to be nearby while she is either watching TV or reading, which are her two favorite hobbies outside of baking and cooking. We are very interesting people. So, anyways, with all that said I do 90% of my building right at the dining room table. Various paints, tools, and glues are stored in the two tackle boxes. Many of the paints I am using for certain ongoing projects are typically just left out, as you see. Cutting utensils, sanding sticks, paint brushes, and markers and pencils are kept in various mason jars. The bolt bin is how I keep my multiple builds organized and also contains weathering powders, some small spare parts and random detail parts and decals that could be used for any generic build. The table is protected by a couple of cutting mats. All of this can be packed away in 5-10 minutes (depending on how messy I am at the time) in case we need the table for a gathering of any kind. Building there was actually entirely my wife's idea. This is the view from my work area to where she spends her time while I am building. That is her corner of the couch right there. So we can talk, she can watch shows or read a book or whatever she wants to do. And I can happily glue together little pieces of plastic to make slightly bigger pieces of plastic. It's not the most ideal building situation but it is good enough for me. The only thing I wish I could do is add wings to my left and right. I like to be surrounded by my work and with just the table in front I tend to spread things out everywhere, including areas that are not easily reachable. Lol. Now for the painting, messy sanding, dremeling, or any other sort of heavy demolition or modification I take myself outside to my workshop. Another less than ideal situation as it is not climate controlled and I fight a constant battle with dust. I vacuum out there first and then spray down my spray booth with water and it seems to do pretty well. Then I put painted parts right into totes so nothing floats over onto them and they are contained for journeys back and forth to the house and workshop. I am fortunate to have the space I do, even if it isn't perfect. One more photo below. I'd show my stash but 90% of it is underneath beds in flat totes. I don't really have room for anymore kits as my wife reminds me every time more boxes show up at the door. So thats a tour of my little slice of plastic melting paradise! If the wife ever gets tired of my hobby I am going to finish out the spare bedroom as my modeling haven, but I anticipate just staying at the dining room table.

It looks like you've found something that works well for you.
I know exactly what you mean when you talk about being "isolated" from your wife in a man cave. This has been a real issue for me since I work from home and my model bench is in my office. I have to be very conscious of not spending all of my time in my office. My wife will offer not-so-subtle comments about never coming out of my office.

I worked that way for years - and built some nice stuff on it. I've had modeling spaces now for quite some time. We now make it the 'multi-purpose room'. My bench, my wife's sewing table, the tread mill, and my desk for gaming & bills etc. Works out great when she's sewing, though she has her own walk in closet she spends a lot of time in. She's turned that into quite the she-shack.
