I worked that way for years - and built some nice stuff on it. I've had modeling spaces now for quite some time. We now make it the 'multi-purpose room'. My bench, my wife's sewing table, the tread mill, and my desk for gaming & bills etc. Works out great when she's sewing, though she has her own walk in closet she spends a lot of time in. She's turned that into quite the she-shack. I like your thinking. Maybe if I talk my wife into having a hobby she needs her own room for then we could make a multi-purpose room as well.

I dont find a good Display for my models today, but i put in on the new self, i think it is ok for me. That's a nice little shelf unit Chris. Certainly helps with the organizing.

Well since I have now discovered this section of this truly wonderful forum I figured I'd post up my areas of fun. Not as great as some of the rooms I have seen in this thread but it works for me! We live in a farmhouse constructed in 1870. So, not much in the way of bonus rooms or finishable basements or anything like that. However, my wife wouldn't want me to retreat into a mancave for hours on end while I'm building, so even if I had the room it is doubtful I would utilize it. She hasn't gotten too tired of me yet, and likes for me to be nearby while she is either watching TV or reading, which are her two favorite hobbies outside of baking and cooking. We are very interesting people. So, anyways, with all that said I do 90% of my building right at the dining room table. Various paints, tools, and glues are stored in the two tackle boxes. Many of the paints I am using for certain ongoing projects are typically just left out, as you see. Cutting utensils, sanding sticks, paint brushes, and markers and pencils are kept in various mason jars. The bolt bin is how I keep my multiple builds organized and also contains weathering powders, some small spare parts and random detail parts and decals that could be used for any generic build. The table is protected by a couple of cutting mats. All of this can be packed away in 5-10 minutes (depending on how messy I am at the time) in case we need the table for a gathering of any kind. Building there was actually entirely my wife's idea. This is the view from my work area to where she spends her time while I am building. That is her corner of the couch right there. So we can talk, she can watch shows or read a book or whatever she wants to do. And I can happily glue together little pieces of plastic to make slightly bigger pieces of plastic. It's not the most ideal building situation but it is good enough for me. The only thing I wish I could do is add wings to my left and right. I like to be surrounded by my work and with just the table in front I tend to spread things out everywhere, including areas that are not easily reachable. Lol. Now for the painting, messy sanding, dremeling, or any other sort of heavy demolition or modification I take myself outside to my workshop. Another less than ideal situation as it is not climate controlled and I fight a constant battle with dust. I vacuum out there first and then spray down my spray booth with water and it seems to do pretty well. Then I put painted parts right into totes so nothing floats over onto them and they are contained for journeys back and forth to the house and workshop. I am fortunate to have the space I do, even if it isn't perfect. One more photo below. I'd show my stash but 90% of it is underneath beds in flat totes. I don't really have room for anymore kits as my wife reminds me every time more boxes show up at the door. So thats a tour of my little slice of plastic melting paradise! If the wife ever gets tired of my hobby I am going to finish out the spare bedroom as my modeling haven, but I anticipate just staying at the dining room table. I really like how you make your space work for you. And that's what it's all about. I see you have a little four legged modeling companion there in the second pick.

My bench is in a spare bedroom which has been converted into my wife's home office. My mother in law also lives with us and she is a scrapbooker. So her space is in this room too.

That's a pretty neat area that you've got just off of the living room kyledehart5. I was initially wondering where you did all of your painting/ airbrushing at but you answered that in the same post.

And yes, I doubt if there is a build of mine that does not have pet hair in it. 🤣. It’s ok, makes them mine.

My wife wants me to be around so I’m more than happy to build there. Doesn’t bother me at all. The painting area was an huge upgrade. I used to have to rattle can outside and come back inside. Zero fun. Workshop was disused and filthy so we spent some time scrubbing it up and throwing junk away and got my little area set up and running. Just recently started airbrushing. Got to try new things you know.

I used to build military subjects exclusively where I used acrylic paints inside the house in my hobby room. Then.....I got a paint booth which changed everything. Now I can shoot paint in the spare room and it works PERFECTLY. As you say.....gotta try new things you know.

The final goody above the bar has been installed... The Rowdy Ben Saloon sign... I received it as a combined fathers day/birthday gift in June from my kids, since that's when my birthday is, and finally got around to putting it up on the wall up top. Drink special of the day was White Russians... I still have some art pieces and award certificates to get framed and hung up, but the main stuff is done now.

Thanks Kyle. Our middle daughter has had a pet tortoise named Little Ben for the past 22 or so years. He can have a rowdy attitude in the house when he wanders about, so I call him Rowdy Ben from the mess and "destruction" that he can leave in his wake. I thought that it would be a great name to hang over my bar, and my kids all pitched in to get the light up sign made. Its the perfect final touch in there I think.

That is absolutely choice Stik. We have 7 tortoises ourselves. If we let our 50 lb Sulcata tortoise loose in our house he would wreak absolute distruction.

Ben is about the size of a construction hard hat, weighs in at around maybe 15-20 pounds at most, but can cause some mayhem. They are stubborn determined creatures. A 50 lb tortoise would be like a Japanese monster movie 😏.

That's a fine hang out, Bob. Taking the last of the loft is what we do; we utilize every available space, whenever we need to, to keep, "Sniffin paint and gluin our fingers together"! Excellent set-up!

Excellent use of space Bob. Big or small, I am always fascinated by how folks utilize their space. I'll echo the fact that you have a sweet stash. Variety is the spice of life. I'll definitely be around when you get to building your Tamiya Corsair.

Bob, that is an excellent stash. Not huge, but some serious quality kits there! Are the framed magazine covers from issues where you have articles or builds published?

A slightly updated pic of the bench. There's a new spray booth that I've had that wasn't in the first pic. Also new stickers on the fridge.
