New to this site and figure I got to start someplace. Built models in my office after I retired. Built kits in my teens - then not until I retired about 9 years ago. a 45/50 year hiatus. I finally just ran out of room and convenience, sooo - Took a storeroom full of junk and made it into a great space. Nice large work surface. Plenty of lighting with under shelf lights and plug strips for electricals. Thats a 1/700 Trumpy Yorktown in progress on the bench. The spray booth I built. Thats a 1/350 Trumpy ESSEX. I wanted to see how it fit. I can spin the whole thing around in there. I like ESSEX class carriers as I served on the USS ESSEX CVS-9 in the 60's. I've got a vintage Revell 1/540 kit of ESSEX in her 1957 configuration with the angle deck. A guy in Florida (Matt Stein) furnished me with all the aircraft I needed for a fulkl compliment of the correct planes in that scale. Got new decals from a Canadian and PE from Gold Medal. I want to do that puppy RIGHT as thats my ship. The booth, booth lights and compressor all wired through switches for easy control. The floor is white vinyl tile. Is great for finding bits of styrene parts, PE and even clear styrene parts. New comfortable chair too. These are bits laying on the white floor - 1/700 PE aircraft props and two colors of steyrene parts/spru. The palest is white spru from my Titanic kit. The long narrow strip is 1/700 perforated safety netting in stainless that fits around a deck edge elevator. The rectangular thing is a 1/700 floater net. The booth was made of leftover sheet metal from my shop. It is a downdraft in design, filters below the perforated floor, has a light fixture in the upper hood and vents through the window to the outside. All told cost me $60.00 to build as I had the sheet metal, light, electricals, blower in the shop stash. What prompted me to build my own was, I do 1/350 scale aircraft carriers and wanted a booth capable of taking a model 36 inches long. The biggest I could find was only 30 inches long, so with a photo or two and some ideas from various modeling sites, I built this one. Works great. I cover the walls with butcher paper stuck on with magnets to make cleaning it easier. Got a radio/cd player. Having the booth in the room is much better than heating up my whole 2000 sq ft workshop in winter so I can airbrush for 15 min plus the convenience. Only need a coffee pot and a small fridge for the beer. Will post some of my models next. Where is a good place on this forum to do pics of my completed models and / or models in progress? E J

Mine is located in my garage and takes up about a fifth of it but as i get more experienced the more things i need so it's slowly but surely expanding. The larger part of the garage is my gym (i do powerlifting/ bodybuilding) My garage has three very distinct advantages, 1) There's an internal door leading straight to my grub supply in the kitchen, 2) It's my gym so instead of watching paint dry, i can crack on with a few sets of heavy squats (the continuous progress principle!) and 3) I've fitted a pot belly wood burning stove for the winter so have great warmth and a crackling fire while i give some model the good news with my Iwata!

Hey dude, you'll find the Panther on the Gallery under Panther revamp. Yeah the gym has always been my number 1 thing since my teens, was lucky enough to move to a bigger house a short while back which a allowed me my own set up. Best of both worlds my man!

Awesome bunkers Guys!
I just rearranged my paint into a rack today, never done that before, lol. Yall are too organized. A messy desk is the sign of a genius, or so they say, HA!
Cheers, Ski.

Me too Rob, i let this thread get away from me. Had a long look to catch up and i love the Mancave setups and have some new ideas to try when i set up my bench soon in my new diggs. Got my eye on a nice used desk at a Used Office Supply Store.....Lots of potential me thinks.

Hiya Elco! Man, i feel for ya! Me and my sis recently moved and it seemed to take 10 years off our life span.....IT SUX! The hardest part (other that physical stuff) was packing away the modeling stuff, then not having a place to get set back up for a long period of time. I just now got my becnh about 90% complete as i envisioned it. Need to sort out some more proper lighting to my right and a better spot for my compressor. Just snapped these pics. The desk i used but i recently acquired it. I love having all the drawers for my modeling stuff. Especially after modelling for several years on a folding table. Good luck on the move Elco.
