On the bench is this great model from Meng of a strange vehicle. A friend of mine and a moderator on another forum build the actual model and I am painting it for him. You can find his review of the kit and the AM PE set for the kit here. armorama.kitmaker.net/modules.php?op=modload&name=Reviews&file=index&req=showcontent&id=7651You can see a great review by member/mod Smudge right here on MSC. modelerssocialclub.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=reviews&thread=1029&page=1I won't go too much into the how-to of the painting as this is being painted for another project I have going. I'll post pics of the progress as it progresses. Here is the built up model with PE done by James Bella. And here is the model with my usual base rust coat. First plate used to practice the old techniques, you get rusty ;D if you don't practice now and then. I'll try to get some bench time this week and will take this to the Nats in Auburn in ten days. Hope to try and work on it there. As always thanks for looking and stay tuned for more.

LOL, yeah T it works great for me to just go to town painting. I do need to build to keep things level of course. Very tempted to start a PZ IV, but I have a Tiger I and a late Panther to do first. I'm making masters of burnt Panther wheels so you and I can wreck and burn all we want ...LOL

Look forward to seeing this one progress...the Minenraumer is such an ugly/other-worldly looking beast...perfect for the rust treatment!

That thing is definitely in my wishlist. Looks like a Mech from some alien civilization, it is really difficult to believe it was built during WW2. And, of course, your superb weathering and rusting skills will surely turn it into a masterpiece. I'll follow you through all the build

I've seen these around before but know nothing about them. Rob can you give us a short blip on the history? Were they actually put in service at some point or just a test thingy?
Excellent job on the back plate. I love raw unpainted, freshly rusted metal. A thing of beauty isn't it?

Thanks for the comments guys and sorry for the late reply too.
I don't know much about this thing but am sure there is something online about it. I will check into it when I get a chance. There will be a review here on MSC soon about this kit, so maybe a brief history will be part of it.
Still working on the plates, one at a time, very time consuming. Will get a pic or two up soon.

yeah sorry for not having all the history etc. I have wanted to paint one of these for a while now. The RPM kit was a dog from what I read so when Meng released theirs it was a must. Of curse I have to be differeent and not go with the panzer gray or gelb paint scheme.

A couple of progress piccies for you. I started working on the rear and side of the roller. Next will be the large side plates. The painting is easy and quick to do, it's just a matter of getting bench time to do it. Hopefully an hour today will get the base laid down for the sides. More soon. Thanks for looking. scratchmod

thanks Wesley, yeah it's an ugly, but cool looking vehicle. Will look even meaner with the wheel pad things on it. These will also cover most of the sides and paint work thee. You can bet I will be using LOTS of AK weathering products on this baby. This is more fun than the crazy KV with flak 88.

Some history I stumbled upon when I first saw that beautiful monster : It was meant to be a minefield cleaning device, the big wheels in front were made to be so heavy and hard that the mines couldn't break them. If I recall correctly only 4 prototypes were built and none saw action. One was captured by the russians and is the one which the model is based upon. It was too heavy, slow and difficult to steer to be effective. It turned usin that small wheel in the back, moved by a chain link. Definitely a fascinating useless device

Thanks for the history on this. Yeah she is ugly and useless.......perfect for me . I'll be doing this one as a prototype without paint. First time I saw it I thought it was some new tank from Warhammer 40k or somethin like that. Looking forward to seeing the magic coming out of your paintwork

Ugly, completely useless, but again so relevant for the paint and weathering enthousiasts ! You're doing a fun job on this one ! It just asks to go crazy on colors and effects of all kinds !

It really is great to see you painting one of these Rob. That raw steel is brilliant, real cutting edge stuff as far as model weathering goes I think. I can hardly wait for the next update, bravo mate!!

Thanks fellas. T it was great having you over bro. Good to talk plastic face to face again. I'll get more of those bases made up some time, if they work for you. Glad to here you liked the roller. Started the large panels today and will post new pics later.

jackwagon, thanks brotha, your too kind. A quick update on the roller. I've started with the first steps and thats applying some gray tones and chipping. I also preshaded the weld areas and also hit the welds with a pencil. Still many more layers to add but you can see it slowly come to life. I'll start some layer today and post an update tomorrow. I should have her ready for further weathering while at the Nats show next week. Thanks for looking.
