Thanks Spud and jackwagon. The colors will be toned down with the weathering. The shield will get some more darker paint and some fliters. Might get to filters and washes today, tonight. Then it won't be until Sunday when I get back to it.

Amazing Rob thats going to be one sweet looking KV i had a similar idea but using a KT with a PAK 43 as bit of a paper panzer you have given me the inspiration to start it, the paint is looking sweet too. Would this be in the hands of the Russians or Germans? lol
Keep up the good work dude

Spud, Martyn and Dan....thanks for checking in on this one.
Dan I had thought of the pak as well but had this 88 on hand so why not. I figure the Germans converted it and used it against the russians.

Looks great rob! Just wondering what your masking process is? For example, the rusty platform grate: did you use tape, paper or what? Great work man

Thanks gents, and some answers.
I went with a light CM and not all out. I used only three of the CM 4B) colors. The CM will get toned down later with weathering. I didn't most of the parts. The bolted thread plate over the turret ring received a circular mask to paint the bare metal dark brwn. The pedestal was also masked. The gun is broken down to three parts for ease in painting. The rear ammo rack and the platform are also separate parts and will be glued in place later. All sub-assemblies. Spud the (r) stand for Russian. Kind of like the 38t were t stands for Tscheck who first built those tanks.

Thanks...and who knows, maybe they did convert one in the field. Not everything was documented back then, even tho the Germans are well known for it.
I've started the filter and some washes, but nothing major to show yet.

right MSC'ers, a long awaited update....I know...bout time eh. The first thing, after two light coats of clear flat, was to apply filters. For this model I will be using mainly AK products and no oils. I usually would use oils for filters and washes for this first step. Since the hull is painted 4BO (green) I chose to add different filters using AK filters for panzer gray vehicles ( blue filter), different shades of green from the streaking grime, dark slimy grime and washes. I first started with a filter of the dark slimy grime. This first initial filter will be to blend the different shades of green CM, darken the lightest green. Next came some pin washes of dark brown wash. I first dampened the surface of the model with a soft brush to help avoid tide marks. When the wash starts to dry I then stump again with the damp almost dry large soft brush to stop any tide marks, and also to blend the wash and remove excess from raised areas. Next comes some shadow effects using the blue filter. Again, once almost dry I stumped with the damp brush. Once I was happy with the filters and some pin washes, I then started to apply the first streaking effects. More will come later. I also added some chipping with a sponge. I will be adding chipping at different stages of the weathering, more about that later. The raw steel thread plate also received some filters and washes using dark brown wash and mixes with track rust and rust streaking grime. I also hit the raised areas ( bolt heads ) with some steel pigments. Because I am able to get a few more hours at the bench today, I will dry the model with the hair dryer set to low-warm. While this cools down I will get a clear flat acrylic ready to seal the AK effects. If you have any questions, please ask them. As always....stay tuned for more.

I thought I'd get a start on some of the other raw metal parts, mainly the rear ammo rack. After applying some rust filterss, I applied an enamel clear flat followed by some AK chipping fluid. I let the chipping stuff air dry for about 30 min then sprayed on some Tamiya gray in an un even coverage and thicker in some areas. After wetting the area with tap water I started some chipping until I was happy with it. To add some color and character to the plates, I created what would be fresh rust from another steel plate that was either lying on top of the one..or standing. You know what I mean. This was done using Lifecolor rust colors. I will touch up areas and do more effects on this when cured. Here is what it will look like on the rear of the hull. That's about it for today folks, thanks for stopping by....come again soo, the fun has just begun.
