Coming up on the weekend...I will be starting my "Christmas Special" build of DML's kit #6690, the Neubau-Fahrzeug Nr. 3-5 Rheinmetall-Fahrestall und Krupp-Turm Geanderte MG-Turme (try saying that 3x fast!) Build will be done OOB, including the indy tracks, which no doubt will come as a shock to many! Stay tuned!

Pvt. Andy Leffler reporting to duty! I always wanted to build one but I am so torn between three kits... Dragon, Trumpeter and Amusing Hobby (spelling?) Maybe I should make Dicky happy and get one from Trumpeter?

Can't say it 1 time slow. And everyone else has it covered on the total shock of OOB indy tracks. Admit it... you've already written to MK begging for them to make those tracks by the time you get that far.

I figured this one would be of interest to the gang...even if it does have a virtually unpronouncable naming convention! I suspect Luigi's on to something there...ship it to Norway and by the time anyone figures out what the heck it really is, it won't matter. Rob, yes it was delayed by one weekend in starting but that will be rectified with some time tomorrow. John, I think the mid-30s suffered a period of turret envy among tank designers...everyone had to have at least two guns in every tank and the more the better, just ask the Russians! Joe, it's been a looooooong time since the last occurrence and Marc's right...I had hoped that MK would've produced a set of tracks by now! The funny thing is that they are 38cm tracks but with SOLID horns...so even though MK does produce a set of workable 38s, they have OPEN horns...arrrrgh!

Jeez, you hearing guys can not even pronounce it properly at slow pace? One of many reasons I am grateful that I am deaf... it wasn't that hard to fingerspell it in American Sign Language! Deaf rocks!!! LOL

The most hilarious fact is that many of these things were built in non ballistic steel, so they were mostly scenographic

If my sketchy German holds out, basically, the main hull and running gear was made by Rheinmetall, and the weapons turrets were done by Krupp.Neu bau fahrezeug.....New build vehicle?

Luigi, I think that was true for Nr. 1-2 vehicles, 3-5 had standard armor. Chris, essentially, yes! Dan, glad to have you on-board...this thing's got a lot of wheels, so guess what I've been up to lately! ;D

Dicky, MK provides the guide horns as separate parts that have to be glued on as opposed to being part of the link itself. There's nothing wrong with the kit tracks per se, they just aren't workable and I like to use workables as a matter of course...just a habit. As for filling the MK horns, there's about 130 links per side so 260 links that would have to be filled...I like workables but not that much! I will be able to make the static indys work, just have to do things a little different than usual on this project is all.

Got this one off and rolling with the usual hurdle coming first in the form of the road wheels. The Germans were suckers for lots of wheels and the Neubau doesn't disappoint in that area. Beginning with Step 1, I cleaned up the mold seams on each of the wheel halves with a sanding stick and assembled the pairs. 11 main wheels per side plus 1 idler pair plus 4 return rollers made for no less than 32 wheels per side or 64 in total. The sprockets were also assembled at this point to go with everything else. Those wheels will need to be painted prior to installation into the suspension due to the way the suspension is designed which is what is addressed in Step 2. The vast majority of parts in the kit are devoted to the suspension (and tracks) due to the vehicle's design. This step calls for the construction of the wheel pairs and their installation into the long plates that go into the hull sponsons. I checked to see if it's possible to add the plates without the wheel pairs installed and the design doesn't allow for that, so the plates were left uninstalled until after the wheel pairs are painted and installed. I did assemble the bogey halves, the instructions contain an error in that the parts should be paired up with D11 going with D23 and D12 going with D24. I also added the mount halves for the large idler wheel that support the 11th wheel on either side. Step 2 also adds the sprockets and their capture plates as well as a couple of hatches for the sponson sides. Step 3 adds the hull belly plate to the large one-piece hull and also adds the rear plate and some other small details like the access hatch, brake light, and tow points. That's as far as things got for this round, next up will be doing the paint work and detailing on the suspension.

Thanks Spud! I'm sure there's going to be many parallels between this one, Trumpy's kit, as well as the Amusing Hobby one just down to the way the vehicle itself was designed.
