thanks fellas, glad you like the chipping. I'm still not glad with those photos though...luckily I found a setting where I could both alter the Field of depth and the Aperture My girlfriend took JPEG photos before and I forgot to change the format to RAW, so I decided not to change much about the photos, just altered the detail - setback of that is of course that each detail - even the slightiest dustparticle - is visible. I'm happy to share the settings to my Canon with you fellas, you never know when it can come in handy ey Setting M Aperture 1/4 sec ISO 100 Field of Depth F/25 no flash so far for that I gave the chips a fake 3D effect by painting some hull red in center of some of the chips: Vallejo Hull Red on the lower parts, Hull Red mixed with Flat Red to the upper areas I also painted the tyres: two colors were used to get some interest: some tyres were painted Vallejo Dark Rubber, others Black Grey And here is how she stands (with running gear dryfitted) I was checking out Gary's StuG blog today and I want to have a go at his subtle weathering style approach...not sure if I can restrain myself though ;D Cheers

Nice progress Wouts! The different color contrast with the wheels is a nice touch and the chipping ought to provide a nice base for the weathering to come (even if you do restrain yourself!)

well now, it's been a while since I updated this blog Since I'm waiting for my new nozzle to arrive so I can spray the camo for the Abrams, I thought it was time to continue the PzIII. Guy's Char blog got me inspired. a couple of months ago I decided to have a try at Michael Rinaldi's oil paint rendering technique. I tried to create interest and mud accumulations using oil paints. It's quite subtle and hardly visible on the photos I have to say. No in progress shots of that sadly. This week I was having a go with the pigments. Although scary to work with I wanted to give it a try. So, what's been done? First I applied thinned Streaking Grime to the sides, and while still wet, I dropped some pigments on top of that. When dry, I streaked some of the pigments downwards with a slightly damp brush. A day later I applied Europe Dust dry to create more contrast with the slightly darker previously applied pigment (I think that's because of the Streaking Grime) The drive sprockets received some treatment with pigments as well. Mainly I applied Europe Dust pigment dry, and then fixed it with MIGs Pigment Fixer. For the roadwheels and tracks I mixed the same pigments with a bit of water. This was brushed on liberally. Some wheels got a heavier treatment, some a less. Same goes for the tracks. When dry I removed the excess, ending up with a layer of pigment only. After that, I added AK Dark Steel pigment to the parts of the tracks which made contact with the ground. This pigment is highly buffeable so very suitable to create weary shiny metal surfaces. Some details, like the boltheads on the extra armor on the front received another pinwash using Streaking Grime Tracks and wheels were installed. On one side the track broke and it won't come together properly...bummer, will need a solution for that! Note that only the lower sides and running gear received a dusty treatment...the lower front and rear need to be handled as well. I'm very glad I decided during the buildstage to shave the second leg of the U in the 'ContinentaU' logo's on the wheels. With the dust in place you can clearly see the 'Continental' logo's Hope you fellas like it a bit ^^ Cheers

Looking great wouts! I'm building and blogging this exact same kit at the minute and am around the same stage as you. I went for the same option with the DY and yellow decals. What colour did you use for the light chipping? I'll be doing a bit tomorrow and have been thinking about the best colour to use for chipping on a DY tank. Cheers buddy, Ben

Leon, Dogfish, thanks fellas Carl, yeah, good point . I must admit that the Vallejo DY has some greenish hue to it though indeed Guy, the collected sand on the sides was a bit of a lucky shot , but I'm happy how it turned out. Glad you like that as well! ^^ Ben, fantastic kit indeed, I have seen yours over at MM, looking good so far! For the lighter chips I used two colors: on the upper areas I used Vallejo Deck Tan, and on the lower areas Iraqi Sand Cheers

Mister Deaf! Thanks bro!!! Guy, thanks mate, and no, I didn't go, LOL HI Bill, thanks glad you like it! smudge, why thanks mucker! ^^ Some progress again...decided to continue the muffler. A couple of months ago, I painted it with Burn Siena oil paint, and dabbed some MIG rust pigments in the still wet paint. I thought it looked ok, but not good enough. So I used the spongue tech using some of the paints of AK's Rust set. Looks better I think the upperhull sides receive some streaks...using AK Streaking Grime and Winter Streaking Grime...hard to catch the result on photo though tools were painted as well ('bout time ) and that's about it for today I guess Cheers
