Hi everyone ;D Well, there are so many great Tiggy builds going on currently I got inspired...BIG TIME! When the Africa Group Build started in April I took part with a Tiger I. It was actually a second go, since I ruined my first Afrika Tiger I last year using oven cleaner which destroyed the ca bonds... for the ones who don't know about which one I'm talking, here she is in better times: The new kitty basekit was Dragons initial Tiger I (6600) this time - on I built before, and Andy is currently building her doing a great job! Of course, since the Tigers in Africa deployed weren't of the initial type, some things need to be changed. got some decals for the kitty as well, courtesy of Bison Decals furthermore I'll be cannibalising the old kitty, and using it's Friul tracks as well (makes it easier for me, no assembly! ) so, photos of things as we stand: great thing about the Dragon kits is that you have the options to make the suspension workable...I chose to do this, you just need to remove some locating tabs, and voila: the hull sides of the initial type had some inserts, these need to be filled since the 'early' types didn't have these anymore The original antennae base needs to be removed and the two rods on which the crank starter plate is attached need to be shortened by one millimeter The Feifel Y-piece (Voyager Models) was cannibalised of the old kitty start of the typical s.Pz.Abt.501 gear on the backplate Feifel air cleaners installed, together with some etch on the upperhull, first tow cable added as well The Tiger which I'm depicting had some extra stowage/armor in front in the form of additional track links unlike Andy's great work, I didn't manage to get a proper result with the front fenders, so I just used the etch thread plates and glued them onto the plastic supports track cable installed on the left side...this changed a lot during Tiger I production, at the time of the Tiger appearing in Africa it looked like this: well, that's how she standed in May 2012...since I'm waiting for the matt coat to dry on the Jagdpanzer, and I didn't feel like working on the Pz38(t) I decided to continue this one...to be continued Cheers

wow, nice to have such a response! Luigi, ER, BJ, Rob and T, thanks a lot dudes Spud: that rope is a metal cable mate, it was a real pain the you know what to bend really, I heated the cable to make it a bit more flexible, but still very hard to do, it came with the Voyager set. It's Voyager Models set PE35061 for the Tamiya Tiger which I'm using. However, on my previous kitty I used PE35196 which is a more actual version of the one I'm currently using, much better, and you get resin track guard attachments with it! One thing will make it hard to convert 6600 to an African one though: the Feifel gear. As far as I'm aware (or maybe I didn't search properly enough) there's no AM Feifel upgrad on the market. I was lucky to be able to cannibalise the ones from the old (Tamiya) Afrika Kitty. Voyager Models do a Feifel resin set, but that's with the single chamber filters, so not useable for this one. Hope that helps a bit mate Kenny, thanks! The cables and stuff will rest attachment prior to paint, but I'm planning to leave the wheels and other tooling off untill after painting Cheers

I am damn glad my Tiger got you inspired this time. I wouldn't haven't built my #6600 if it wasn't for you and Ben's WIP. LOL
Beautiful work dealing with PE!!! I find this interesting I see several things that have changed a lot between my initial model to your Africa Tiger such as no clasps on the side of hull & wider mud flaps, etc.

I can't get over how purdy your naked builds are Wout. A learning experience in how it should be done in the raw. Tony

blimey, some more great reactions which I missed...thanks a lot gents, I appreciate that tremendously!!! well, first update...been doing not much modelling...rest assured, both the 38t and the jagdpanzer aren't stalled for long...and if so - I said it before - blame Andy! ;D added pretty much of all the tools to the upperhull. I gave the toolclamps a try again in making them workable...but I really can't manage it...getting so frustrated I decided to do what I always do: cheat! I didn't say that though ;D. They don't have to be workable anyway, my models are quite static ;D I also added the exhaust shrouds and the skirts, and made some metal track holders at the front bow plate, I used strip styrene for this. as you can see I also made a start with the turret the barrel of the old Afrika Kitty will be used the scratched metal trackholders...I'll be using some leftovers of my MasterClub spare tracks...Friul tracks are a bit overscale and wouldn't fit between the front plate and the scratched parts without deforming them... skirts are fitted same damage as on the old kitty shiny ass wooden jack and tools fitted. Don't like how the metal parts over the cleaning rods are sitting bent...but there was no other way around I decided to use some wire for the headlights since I didn't quite like the Dragon provided ones. I also scribed the wooden block since it had no wood texture whatsoever... some smaller details on the upperhull and hull side need to be done and then I can continue to with the turret Cheers
