Gents, Here it is a first attempt at a blog. The kit: DSC_0897 by TonyThunder, on Flickr Arrived this morning from KFS and everything else is now on the back burner! It is a true multi media kit with resin, white metal, vac form roof and all the bits of rod etc to make an accurate build of the Lightweight 4x4. First thing first Wash the parts: DSC_0899 by TonyThunder, on Flickr Soapy water for the resin DSC_0904 by TonyThunder, on Flickr And vinegar for the metal More to follow:

This looks like a fun build to follow! 58 resin parts, 53 white metal and 116 in brass. What a combination... please count me in!

Nice kit, reading "for the experienced modeller" on the front makes me feel immediately uneasy, it must be a challenge to marry all those medias. Count me in

Don't feel intimidated about blogging...just go with it and the gang here will have fun following along! One note of caution though...they tend to get into a frenzy when you mention primer or painting, so don't do that until you're absolutely sure it's going to happen!

Hi Gents, Here be the next instalment: Suspension axles and underside detail. First I would like to show you an admittedly poor picture of one of the chassis cross members. the two spikes at either end are the only evidence left by the casting process and is typical of the whole kit; There is very little clean up to do! DSC_0926 by TonyThunder, on Flickr So on to the axles and suspension parts. DSC_0907 by TonyThunder, on Flickr The front axle has moveable steering so I had to drill holes in both the ball joints and front hubs and then used 3/64 rod as king pins to hold them together. The front end done. DSC_0912 by TonyThunder, on Flickr I then moved on to the rear section. It took some adjustment and lots of test fitting to get it to sit right but I'm happy with it. DSC_0921 by TonyThunder, on Flickr Finished underside with cross members fitted. DSC_0928 by TonyThunder, on Flickr The exhaust system will be fitted after painting. I then dry fitted the four wheels to check that it is sitting flat (it is . DSC_0922 by TonyThunder, on Flickr All for now next up will be the engine, engine compartment and front panel. ACW Tony

Something must be going on with your Flickr account...I just get large white boxes that say the images in your last post aren't available.

Gents, christmas has taken over my life for the past few days but I managed to get some bench time in today and here is a little update: I got the parts together for the engine and engine compartment: DSC_0936 by TonyThunder, on Flickr As you can see I had already made a start on the distributor and leads: DSC_0947 by TonyThunder, on Flickr Here is a pic of the engine dry fitted into the bay with other parts ready for paint, coil, oil filter, exhaust manifold fitted: DSC_0984 by TonyThunder, on Flickr Here is the front plate the headlight bowls are a little deep so I have filled them with milliput to the correct depth: DSC_0987 by TonyThunder, on Flickr And here is a pic of the front end so far (everything is dry fitted final assembly will be after paint). DSC_0976 by TonyThunder, on Flickr More to come! ACW Tony

Hi dicky, I don't know what is happening with flickr, it seems they drop off although the white box if you click on it takes you straight to the pic on Flickr. I recopy the BBC code and they load no problem......................till next time they drop off. It happens with my gallery pics as well! Back to the present I will be going with a full tilt, I used to drive one of these and apart from taking the door tops off when it got hot in summer (not very often) I never saw any stripped down. The need for airportability disappeared very soon after they were issued with the advent of more powerful Wessex engines/Chinook/Herc etc etc so when the 3 series arrived they were adopted as the series 2 short wheel base equivalent throughout the services. Shoot me if I've got that wrong ;D

Hi Carl,
I've got them all working at the moment (bound to change soon) if you click on the white box should take you straight to the pic. Not ideal but I'll do a search and see if I can find out what the problem is.

Been checking on this and am amazed at the quality of the castings and little clean up needed. That motor is a nice little gem and will look great painted.

That's one cool little 4X4!!! I love these things. Looking forward to this one:). But, you'll have to forgive my ignorance, is this a Chinese vehicle in real life? Where's is it from? The kit looks awesome for resin:)

Thanks for the comments chaps glad you are enjoying the build (I am). May be I didn't make it clear at the outset but the vehicle is a British Army Air portable Land Rover. They were in service between 1968 and the late 1990's. I made a start on the interior and had an overall dry fit of parts. Apart from photo etched detail relatively few parts will be placed prior to paint. So here it is so far.................. DSC_1116 by TonyThunder, on Flickr DSC_1110 by TonyThunder, on Flickr DSC_1114 by TonyThunder, on Flickr DSC_1115 by TonyThunder, on Flickr DSC_1119 by TonyThunder, on Flickr Still a fair bit to fit to the front bulkhead heater and hose, fire extinguisher etc. Will make a start on etch and exterior detail next. ACW Tony
