And so it begins, the official 1st photos. This is the kit and the PE that will be used. I may add some Friuls to the mix. And when I say "may" that usually means that if I even get the slightest inkling of the though... it's a forgone conclusion. I've at least got the box open, sprues organized (for the moment) and starting in on the wheels and axles. It would be nice if there was a nice tight mount to get the wheels all lined up to reduce the chance of "floaters" later on. Shouldn't be hard to be precise. But WHOA that's a lot of play. I am guessing 1 of 2 scenarios... Dragon screwed up or they are allowing for changes in position in the even you are doing a dio and there a rock or tree limbs under the track.

I'm guessing this one doesn't have the torsion bar setup? Not having to mess with zimmerit unless you wish to is probably an even trade off I'm thinking. I'll be attending this one for sure

Is it the one actually in La Gleize?

nice one, a variant on this kit (6232) was my actual first kit. Don't forget, if you're going to depict a late one (like in the Ardennes you might want to discard the jack and it's brackets and the wooden block Luigi, if you mean the one depicted on the box art: no, it's not, the KT in La Gleize is number 213, the one one the box art(and seen on many famous photos) is Kurt Sowa's '222' Cheers Cheers

I am done! OK So not really THAT quick. ;D Wouter as you mention it i will be doing Sowa's 222, so would that be late to make those deletions? Correct Mark, no torsion bars. I used the Cavalier zim on a KT a few years back and it was a delight. Perfect fit and no issues at all. But no zim on this one. After the impressive work Carl has done on his rolled steel look I have some experimenting to do.

This is cool Marc ! Thanks for comment . When you get to the Fruils there are several sets but the late war KT wore the tracks in set ATL 16 . And dont glue the rear idler arm in place until you get the number of links figured out . I left the idler arm loose on mine and i was able to rotate it to adjust the slack . HTH ;D

Very cool, Marc. Looking forward to seeing it come together. Are you just building a 1/35 version of the 1/72 you finished in Dec? (Paint and such)

Mark, yes mate, most KT's of the s.SS.Pz.Abt.502 were of a later production and they didn't have the wooden jack or brackets for the 25ton jack. Great to read you are doing 222 One of the interesting things about 222 - and which I never saw depicted on a model - is the left front fender look at the photo: the right fender doesn't have the corner piece fitted, while on the left fender corner, you can see that they fitted the piece which should be on the right (hope you know what I mean ATL16 are indeed the correct tracks to go. Some KT's which fought in the Ardennes had the experimental late style single link type and again the 18tooth sprocket, but 222 wasn't one of them Cheers

WOW who knew there would be THIS much interest in another KT build. Yes, he is going to be the 1/35 version of the braille kitty. Brother Dave... you are going to have to build a KT now so we can keep the sibling status alive ;D Wout, I am glad you posted that pic. i remember seeing it before with the comment about the fender but couldn't remember who posted the pic. I am thinking this is what you mean... But now I have a question... because I don't know, not anything to do with questioning your knowledge... When I did the 1/72 version much of what I read talked about the non-standard ambush scheme in that the spot were larger than they were supposed to be. In this photo the spots appear to be fairly small. It this 222?

Insert a loud buzzing sound here followed by... "WRONG!" Me that is. As soon as I posted that I looked back at the ref pics I have that are most definitely 222... the 222 on the side of the turret was my 1st hint ... and the spots are consistent with your photo. So to quote Emily Litella from SNL... "Never mind."

Cool Man, Looking forward to this one as I have 5 of those kits in the stash, LOL OK guys, Please dint think I'm going rivet counter on yeahs, but I have studied these tigers for a while. Tiger 222 may be one of the 11 tiger II's that were built in Sept and issued to Pz.Abt 509 and then were recalled and issued to s. SS-Pz.Abt. 501 Tiger 332 That made its way to the states still had the jack and block. Its belived that 222 was one of the 11 and may still have the jack. A good website to look over is here, www.ss501panzer.com/Tanks_of_SS501.htmLike I said, I don't mean to stir no poop, I just wanted to share the information.

I don't think it's stirring poop bro, you're making it more interesting I just checked it out and found a photo where you see the Fallschirmjäger switching smokes with a motorcycle dude, one can see the back and no jack or brackets for it . If you guys want I post up the pack later on Carl, ok dude, you want me to edit my previous post as well? Mark, yes, that's want I ment indeed mate Cheers

it's done ;D well, here's the photo I'm talking about. Note that the brackets for the jack aren't there. The brackets for the wooden block do appear to be at the backplate, but the wooden block itself isn't installed And here's a clearer shot of the wrong installed fender piece and to close things: 222 was destroyed by artillery fire at Stavelot all photos come from Waldemar Trojca's book Pz.Kpfw.VI Tiger Ausf. B Königstiger (although that's actual a term never used by the Germans ) TECHNICAL and OPERATIONAL HISTORY only for discussion purposes Cheers

I really do like these discussions. Like Luigi said, much to learn. Also when I was doing the little kitty there was discussion as to whether the balkenkreuz appeared under the "222". Interesting since this photo pops up in just about any search for the tank. Artwork and some models built, including mine, have that on both sides. yet there is no signs of it on the right side. Found this pic after i finished. Granted this is not the best photo being enlarged a very long shot that also out there. I have yet to find another shot of the turret from the right. In my best Mr. Spock voice... "Logic would dictate..." that it would be there but who knows what's done inthe field.

heres a truely newbie type of question. do all or should i say most german armor have such extensive "personal" histories? i did a google search for king tiger 222 and came up with a large amount of information. is this common?
