Well, the weathering has started! Still need to add wipers and need to touch up a few areas where the brass is showing through I did a dark pinwash over surface detail and an overall dark wash on the canopy and then pulled most of it off. I have now gone over with AK rainmarks mainly to break up the canopy otherwise it could look like a big green box!. Looks a bit harsh and fragmented at the moment but I intend to go over with a brown wash and then pigs followed by a matt coat which hopefully will bring it all together As ever ACW Tony DSC_2578 by TonyThunder, on Flickr DSC_2575 by TonyThunder, on Flickr DSC_2580 by TonyThunder, on Flickr DSC_2576 by TonyThunder, on Flickr

Tony
I just happened to stumble across your fantastic build here while just looking around, the whole build is a work of perfection and that tissue top is the best, just a beautiful build.
Your rain streaks are very good, whenever I try those it becomes a case of sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. What is the general method you use for that effect?

I missed most of the build but I'm glad I caught the end photos . What a superb result Tony. Reminds me of many an hour being thrown about in the back of one of these across rutted 'roads'

Gents! Thanks for the kind comments they are much appreciated. Teabone - With regard to the rain marks/streaking - I am along way from being an expert but when you are looking at a weathered vehicle you are generally looking at a combination of several different factors such as rain/wind/sun/dirt/wear etc; you can't recreate that in one hit - With regard to the tilt I painted it in olive drab and lightened the paint where the tarp was at its most stretched because these are the areas it is most likely to fade. The streaks are a combination of neat oils put on with a tooth pick and then dragged down with copious amounts of odourless thinner. I followed this with AK's rain marks and followed that up with a brown wash again as streaks. I try not to go too heavy I think its better to get the right amount in two or more visits that too much in one. The lighter streaks at the bottom edge are Tamiya Buff heavily thinned and then sprayed vertically from the bottom up fading as you go. Lastly it got a spray of Testors Dullcote. One of the things I have been playing with is pin washes using odourless thinners and pigments - I find its a good way to get pigment into sills and around raised detail. Why odourless thinners 1. its odourless! 2. Its not as harsh as white spirit etc and 3. its not grainey which other unrefined spirits can be. Hope that makes sense. ACW Tony

I am really ped off that I didn't follow this build. That is a great looking build. I was trained to drive these in 2006, but luckily I didn't have to drive them to often. The longest drive was from Otterburn to Odiham, not pleasant. But I have lots of memories of being bounced around in the back of these things, and its great to se one built.
